DH1 has to be the cutest baby eagle ever!  Oh, we say that about every baby eagle.  :-[

Does someone know what became of the floppy fish from this morning?  Found it on the rewind at 3:00, still in the nest bowl, buried just under the egg and DH1!  No longer flopping.

It never gets old seeing this little miracle and the doting parents! Thanks all for your contributions today.💖

I see that RRP has an issue with internet service this afternoon - posted on facebook at about 5pm that the internet was down.  it is still running highlights on the cam sites.

Looks like the cams went back to LIVE at about 10:50pm

It seems that DH1 was not moving when cams showed this morning.  I checked rewind, and didn't see any movement each time HM got up in the night :(  Egg #2 is coming along nicely.

FAREWELL & HELLO
April 6, 2023
EGG 2 is hatching, his sibling flew over Rainbow Bridge.

Nature cares for her children.
If the area is over populated with eagles, she takes a few for herself. If the Angel took their Firstborn, they can concentrate on raising Survivor

Nature is not unkind, she is wise

From RRP:
While one eaglet hatches, another one is gone. We're sorry to announce that DH1 perished sometime last night. We don't know why, but we do know that the weather was challenging and HD and HM are new parents, with a lot to learn about feeding and caring for eaglets. As one of our moderators said, 'A lot of hope was riding on those little wings'. We're sad about DH1's loss but hopeful for better things to come for DH2.

Mother Nature plays hardball, but that is the way it is. Maybe we'll get our miracle after all. I so want HM and HD to learn and succeed.

I'm so sad about this!!

Yes Angel, its sad - but normal.
Perhaps it was stepped on - or a fish got dropped on it - that does happen.
This pair has never raised a brood before, this is their learning year.
This area is FULL of eagles

What sad news that HD1 perished overnight.  I will wonder if that live fish did damage to the little eaglet.  Fly high in our memories.

It's impossible to know if this pair is experienced at being a pair and raising a brood.  It is their first here at N1.  Hoping sincerely for better times and success for the second hatch.

Me three.

Very sad about the little one. One thing I've learned from watching the eagles and learning from this site is that Nature happens. And Nature isn't kind, just... Nature.

I also feel these are new to raising babies, based on their seeming inexperience with ...getting together... maybe this was their fault and maybe not. Just Nature.

At changeover time, 2:30PM, HD brought a load of grasses.  Couldn't see much underneath at 3:30, but everything that was there early morning is still there. . . Hoping for successful hatch of egg #2.

HM ate one fish, perhaps the one that was in the nest bowl. And the chick is moving in egg #2, egg tooth clearly visible.

What I noticed, too, is that there were actually two fish on nest, one on either side of nest bole.  The one on right  side looked dried up and old.  Maybe one of them just brought it and didn't know to feed DH1?
