ID notes for MrN:  Easy to tell he is the smaller eagle when both are on the nest.  His head feathers are bright white all over.  He has a white bump on the lower right eyelid from an injury about 3 years ago.  Cam ops will find a closeup view soon, I'm sure.

About 7:30 AM they are working on nestorations.  MrN flies off with a clump of grasses in his talons.  It's a mistake, and he flies right back to return it.  Funny.

That would have been so funny to watch. And, way too cute. Thanks

Phyl, good to know that you keep cheat sheets as references.  I do also!

Still valuable to get pics at the beginning of the season to see if any characteristics have changed.  Here are closeups of MrN this morning that show his feather lump on the right side under the eye, and both eyes with lots of dark dots.  Eye patterns are another good way to ID eagles, kind of like fingerprints.

There's some good ID info on the RRP livestream if you scroll down under the feed -- depends on your computer or smartphone how the pages get configured.  Also maps of the branches and records of previous seasons.

I think Mr. North came to the nest this morning because Lucky the Squirrel was crawling around in the sticks on the side of the nest.  He turned his head every time he heard Lucky.

Here's a brief video I recorded on Monday of DNF on the nest when she wingslapped at Lucky.  He comes up the branch at the lower left.

DNF on the nest at about 7:30 this morning, flying in from the BPT.  Squirrel was on the nest just before she landed, and rewind shows  the squirrel escaping along the left branch.  Nice closeups of DNF.  About 9:00 MrN and DNF nestorating with grasses and sticks.

Nice to see Ginger52 posting again!

October 21, 2023  Saturday
What a beautiful setting - fall colors, lovely eagle pair.
If RRP will go back to calling them Mom n Dad North I think I'll watch this year.

I took a quick peek at Decorah North Eagles

In between the nestorations and looking for sticks ---'lumber'.
Looks like the  'crib' sides are getting a lift.  ;)

A quick peek in on the Decorah North Eagles nest and guess who I found?

The side rails of the nest look really high this fall.  Because there were no fledges from DNN this past season, the rails didn't get smashed flat like usual.  See comparative pics from today, from mid-August 2023 when the cameras turned off, and DN15 on the nest in early August 2022.

Phyl, love the little mice!

DNF paused on a perching branch on the way to the nest, then great view of the fall colors across the creek.
