Last night, just after dark, several raccoons were playing around the big log under the nest tree.  The Norths spent the night on Love Branches.

Quieter morning at DNN today.  Nest work by both Norths, flying in and out, a hawk in the Scary Tree for a while.  We're ready for eggs, already, y'all.   :D

Cam ops found a female hairy woodpecker on branches near the nest.  Great detail.  Slow zooming would reveal exactly where she is.

No egg from DNF today so far.

Yippee Yahoo

Congratulations to the Norths on their first egg of the 2023 season.   ;D

Rewind to about 6:00 this morning for a really smooth changeover from DNF to MrN. She wakes, calls, and leaves. He flies in right away.
He has been on brooding duty since then, with a short break for stretching and canoodling with DNF on the lower Love Branch. No mating, just closeness.

Bright sunrise to greet the new egg, and a closeup of MrN as a proud PaPa again.

Not being a hunter, I just gained the revelation of the meaning of "...high-tailing it out of there..." after viewing the deer fleeing the field!!   :) ;) 8)

Eburg, here's a pic of the deer, not high-tailin' it, but on the far side of the creek about 1:30 this afternoon.  The video has the better action.

Horses sometimes run with their tails high in the air, so your saying could apply to them, too.

MrN has been on nest duty all day. Now it is snowing!  Wonder where DNF went?
