MrN (I think) was in the Spit Tree for a while in the late evening, then flew to the Scary Tree, where DNF joined him as the lights dimmed.

Friday morning, hazy, smoky sunrise again.

Mom Grackle seems to be still incubating eggs.

MrN came to the nest for some poking around, then flew off to the behind area and perched there for a while.  Do we call these the Hideaway Branches?  A pair of bluejays objected, watch on the rewind.

STL -- He was perched on the Hideaway Branch.  It was interesting watching him being mobbed by the blue jays.  He seemed more bothered by them than he did by grackles when they've mobbed him on the nest.  He kept watching the blue jays intently and vocalizing at them and snapping.  Poor guy.

Looks like at least one Grackle egg has hatched.  At about 5:11 p.m. she appears to be eating an eggshell and then at around 5:53 she's clearly feeding hatchling(s) -- the hatchling's themselves are not visible.

Eating eggshell.

I Googled Grackle eggs and that is what they look like:

Feeding.

At 6:11 I saw an open beak and then a dark fuzzy head.

Awesome, Ginger!  Great catch and great to have a hatch here at DNN.  Mom G is off the nest and back on frequently this morning.

I haven't seen feeding or chicks but not taking time to watch the rewind or live.  Chores of my own to get done today.

Monday three maybe four grackle chicks in the nest.  Parents both feed them lovely green caterpillars and various insects.  It's great to have new lives here in the nest again.   Also a good set of calves in the pasture.

There are four Grackle hatchlings.  This pic is from last night.  Only a few times have I seen all four at the same time.

Some pics from last night of other (non-Grackle) North Valley denizens.

Baltimore Oriole -- maybe a young one?

A sweet little Song Sparrow.

Red-winged Blackbird.

Deer.

Ginger, good to have confirmation of 4 grackle chicks.  North Valley fauna are many and varied.  Great pics.
Most of this morning, MrN has been peacefully perched in the Scary Tree. Letting the grackles do their thing at the nest.

Well, I'm going to have to revise the number.  I've seen five chicks today.

Ginger, before looking at your pic, I also saw 5 chicks in the nest, on rewind at about 11:00 this morning!
Eyes not open yet, but feather clouds showing.

The Norths are staying away from the nest. This morning perched together in the Brush Pile Tree.  They have an Air BnB !
Grackles doing their thing.

My timing must be off. LOL
