7:53 a.m. Cam was on the grackle nest when eagle cries were heard.  Mr. North was fleeing from DNF with a fish in his talons.  He landed on the nest three times with DNF in hot pursuit.  On the third landing he gave the fish over to her -- didn't have much choice.

Mr. N taking off after the second landing.

DNF takes off after him.

DNF eats the fish and Mr. N. flies off to BPT for more fishing (now he needs to catch one for his own breakfish).  DNF spends an extended time on the Ladder Branch being mobbed by a couple of Grackles in the rain.  She finally flies off at about 8:24.

Not long after, cam op finds DNF.

Ginger, thanks for the round-about pics of MrN and DNF this morning.  I caught two landings, but not a third!  After, MrN spent hours at the Brush Pile Tree, but which tree is DNF perching in?  Didn't see a pull-back or panning shot from the cam ops.  Maybe they don't like standing out in the rain.   ;D

Mom grackle is putting up with the rain.

STL -- I'm not sure but I think DNF might have been perched on the Scary Tree.  The Scary Tree does have a lot of the bark stripped off of it.

Rewind to about 6:00 this evening for nice catch of a very pregnant doe crossing the pasture toward the creek & beyond. Her two fawns, now yearlings, are with her.  Thanks to the cam ops.

Nice pics of the deer last night, STL.  At a little less than an hour later there was a Turkey Vulture flying near the spit and it briefly landed on the Spit Tree.

Ginger, nice pic of turkey vulture, and another good view of the Spit Tree.

BE perching late this morning in the Brush Pile Tree, including close up and wide angle view.  Thanks cam ops!

The North mothers are making the best of things on a rainy day.

Looks like Mom Grackle is still incubating eggs this morning.  The Norths were in the Scary Tree, and cattle in the pasture at sunrise on this middle of May day.

Pesky squirrel is back chewing on the wooden part of equipment housing.  Maybe RRP could replace this tasty wood with a nice slab of plastic, or aluminum, or wood treated with tar or creosote.  I have visions of the whole works tumbling to the ground one of these days.  Can the cam ops show us where this equipment is located?  We watchers are just nosy and don't really need to know.   ::)

Go to about 9:00 this morning for a round of fish tag for the Norths.  Grackles tried to drive them off the nest!

The Grackles were relentless today in mobbing Mr. N. and DNF.  Here's a pic I snipped of DNF reacting to one that was going after her.

Ginger, that's a great capture!  Grackles more aggressive because hatching of their eggs is happening soon, possibly correct?  Looks like the whole family gets in on protecting the nest.  Could be more nests nearby, in addition to the one perfectly placed for us watchers to observe.

Thanks, STL.  GABear Mod on Explore said today that she thinks the Grackle has been incubating for about 10 days and that it's supposed to be 11-15 days to hatch.  So, we might see something soon.
