Afternoon chores for MrN, rearranging, aerating nest material, rolling the egg.

Another day, similar to yesterday at DNN.

Tiny bit of activity at the North nest this afternoon.  MrN called for a break about 2:30, and DNF came to the nest as he left.  She was not there to sit on the egg, but instead perched at the Ladder Branch for a few minutes, then flew off.  MrN returned about 3:00, just as a couple of geese flew past, headed to the north (left).  I think I missed the geese in the last pic, too fast for my regular screen capture program.

Well, if MrN has his way, there will be one eaglet at the North nest this season.  Such a devoted dad, all day and all night since the laying on FEB 20.

MrN returned to the nest with a dirty face, then left to join DNF in the Scary Tree, then returned to the nest -- all around 2:30 PM.  There was a section of Highlights just before the dirty face appeared so no idea what happened, but not an injury.  Any idea from other watchers?

Now it is snowing all over the area.

Mr N looks like he was really getting into his meal.   ;D

Some fun activity at the DNN nest today.  Early snow pics, and the egg, safe and dry with new grasses from MrN.

But wait, there's more!  See next screen.

About 3:00 this afternoon, MrN brought a large rabbit carcass to the nest.  He quickly flew away with it, to branchy area below the nest.  DNF arrived and called for the food, then she flew down to claim it. (see pic with blue circle).  MrN returned to the nest, and DNF consumed the rabbit.

Go to about 5:00 on the rewind for a nice view of the egg, safe and deep in the nest with all the new dry grass.

Thousand thanks to the camera operators for this chronicle of the Norths.

It's quiet at the DNN area today. Some geese honking in the background now and then.
Snowing again late this afternoon.  MrN on duty most of the time, DNF away from camera views on the rewind.

Rabbit on the menu this morning about 9:00.  DNF was perched in a tree to the left of DN12's tree (see pic).  MrN left the nest to capture or claim the rabbit on the ground between those two trees.  Another eagle flew during the capture time.  MrN returned to the nest with a bloody beak, so he got some of the rabbit.  DNF brought the carcass to the Love Branch and ate part of it before carrying it away. MrN left the nest and DNF brought something that she left on the patio side. Rabbit remains?  MrN came back shortly after.  Way better action visible on the rewind!

Then at about 11:00, MrN was watching and hollering at something above the nest area. He flew away briefly and when he returned, there was a sub-adult perching in the Love Branches.  That's pretty close to the nest.  It stayed for a short while, then buzzed the nest as it flew away.  Where is DNF?

About 12:30, MrN called then flew away.  DNF flew in shortly after and ate most of the carcass that she had stashed at the patio edge of the nest. Before I was not sure she had brought rabbit, but definitely yes.  She ignored the egg, same as for many days, and flew away to the south around 1:00.  MrN returned soon to resume his solitary incubation duty.

Don't know what gives with DNF?

I'm trying to refer back to see why she just doesn't seem to care.  Amy, is there some past examples or is there some explanation why she has turned away from the example of Mom?  The more I check in on NN the more disappointed I get in her.  Hip, hip, hooray for NN dad.

I wonder if Amy will read this or does she only monitor forum?
