June 30 NO SOUND, I hear NOTHIN
​​3.35 loon off nest - ​​she left off the 'top' left of raft, not usual bottom slide.

2 loons in water -with chick.
​​glowing eyes & white on swimming loon looks like headlights

​​splashing - wings - fighting? beaver?

​​3.43 loon does the Jesus flap - stands in water & flaps

​​3.49 loon mounts raft from normal 'slide' area

6.13 am  Mom, Dad and Chick have a swim, then parent back on raft, chick follows. CUTE!

Egg 2 broke, no chick.
Parents swam off with their 2 days old chick.

I watch 4 loon cams.
We had 8 eggs.
As of today we have 2 chicks.

1 has 1 egg left, 1 broke.
1 hatched one - abandoned remaining egg.
1 hatched one - egg 2 broke.
1 still has 2 eggs and 2 weeks to go.

So far 4 cams started with 8 eggs, 2 hatched one, left one .

Raft 1 lost an egg.
Raft 2 still has 2 eggs.
Boulder hatched one chick and left the other egg.
Fairlee hatched one chick and the other egg broke, dead chick.

If not for rafts, loons might go extinct.

FAIRLEE UPDATE 6/30/2024:  Hatch!
On June 29 at around 5pm, the first egg hatched revealing a beautiful baby loon. 
 The next day we all experienced joy and anxiety about the health of the chick and the fate of the second egg. 

 Today, we have confirmed that the second chick was stillborn.  While disappointing that our second chick did not survive, it reminds us of how fortunate we are to watch and learn from our wild environment.  The loon family vacated the nest this afternoon to move on to a nursery area nearby.

Wails and tremelos are so haunting.

Next year LPC will build a new raft for Fairlee.

Raft 1
Egg 1 broke some days ago
Egg 2 broke today.
Loons on raft1 are gone.
Incubation was so sporadic, eggs alone so many hours, I never thot they'd hatch.

Raft 2
2 eggs here
Today female dove off- underwater FAST as an eagle landed on the shore behind the raft.

She wailed and wailed
Male came after an hour.

RAFT  1 results
LC1's nest exam by LPC and LCO.
Both eggs on raft 1 broke.  No chick.
