Glad your sister got back from AZ ok Rues.

Good going on getting mama kitty Cal.  Too bad she's so wild, it would be easier to tame the kittens if she was.  Wow the heat you're getting!  We're 79 now and the dew point/humidity is creeping up.  80's for highs starting today.

Hit a couple garage sales, I'm done now.  Why bring more stuff home that I don't need or know what to do with.  :D

I hope you can get your dental work done soon JP.

Tasha sure is a cutie.

Hi and everyone have a good day, stay cool, stay safe, or both depending on where you are.

Hi Jewelies!  Another hot one.  Supposed to cool off this weekend, down around 80.  We'll take it.  We had a storm in the middle of the night and got a little rain.  Decorah eaglet D24 is on the Y today!  So nice to see them there again!  D25 is still on the branches of N2B...

cal... So glad you got to see the kittens!  Good that you are petting mama cat... that'll make it easier to make friends with the kittens, I think.

Hi Nora!  Hi JP!  Hi obsver!  Hi rues!  Hi Eaglette!  Hi willi!  Hi dlong!  (How you doing in that heat?)  Hi blschue!  Hi to anyone else reading here or someone I forgot to mention!  Stay cool!

Wish I was an intern at the bear center!  Wonder when Dr. Rogers will be back...

Cal, yay, you saw the kittens! Where are they going to the bathroom...in the hay, do you suppose? Our little house guest, Tela, has her days and nights mixed up! She sleeps downstairs in the closet under the stair steps on top of a cooler all day long. Then all night long she walks all over the house meowing. She wakes me up a half dozen times each night. Time for her to go home! Unfortunately she is here for another few days. Robin's ac needs a circuit board which had to be ordered because the furnace and ac are 30 years old and they don't keep them in stock! Should be here Monday or Tuesday.  Wilson is still happily enjoying the screen porch! Nice pics in the update and good news about all the bears showing up! How's Polly's cold?

Jp, thanks for the pretty sparkly good morning greeting! I always enjoy your greetings! And a nice pic of Burt! Hope you got rid of the blahs!

Ra, eww, a snakeskin! Wonder where the snake is? :o  That's some scary stuff with your grand's heart! Does she have any problems or restrictions? Why can't something be done about those annoying fraudulent calls? I suppose they could claim it's their 1st amendment right! Thanks for the info on the Decorah Eagles!

Obsver, I just finished my 4th Adriani Trigiani book! There were 4 in her Big Stone Gap series. I read the last book on my tablet. I think I like the feel of a real book instead! Went to the eye doctor and he told me the reason my eyes feel tired after reading is because they are drying out! He told me to put eye drops in them when they feel that way. I did and it worked. I had no idea that I had dry eyes! He also told me to put a warm compress on my eyes in the morning and at night for a few minutes. Says that helps to open the glands. I have some cataracts forming but not bad enough for surgery yet. We had that same weather yesterday....dark clouds and strong winds and no rain! You must have sent me that! :D

Nora, my sister brought me back the cutest gift from AZ. She told me when she left that she would not bring me back a t shirt like she normally does when she goes out of town. I love t shirts and would be very happy to get another one! She went to a craft show that's held around the courthouse in Prescott. She said there were lots of vendors there with all kinds of stuff. One of the vendors had made several objects with metal and rocks.  She got me a little metal peacock! His body is a rock. I'll take a pic of it and post it but I'll have to do that on my laptop. I still don't know how to do stuff like that on this iPad!

Hi Ra! i don't see how them kittens can take it out there. i put out some food at 2 and cleaned up the barn and hosed down the girls and sweets. someone might of taken a few bites so i brought it back in too hot for cat food and milk. i think they just sleep off the heat. mom cat i just frontlined her for fleas. she is so sweet all over me. i don't feel bad now cause i know where the kids are and i am taking care of them. i did not put out that live trap. let them get used to me taking care of them and they are still so little. missy and her mom and her kids and her sister and her kids went to the omaha ne zoo today. just for the day hope it was not steamy hot there. jim leaves for denver monday and ozarks in a month he says you want to go um no got all the animals to take care how about sister well sister has to work jim and she can't take care of everything here she does good to take care of herself and i have to help there.  i hear about them calls like you got on the news. i would put boo boo on the phone and the houla. i should run over to decorah and take a peek!! grizz whining better go see what is his problem.

Hi Rues! so that ac guys warehouse did not stock them no warehouse did anywhere around there? at least she has the window unit one time jim was out of town and our ac quit. me and dogs holed up in my room with the window unit. i still turn it on at night when i go to bed and have all the dogs in there. get under the covers with houla and my little captain crunch and go to sleep. at mcdonalds this morning i went first and paid for mine with my gift card ca got me for christmas. i only get a sausage biscuit strawberry jelly and a small water. take off the sausage and give it to the dogs oh my god i think the sausage is still in my purse..sister get that sausage biscuit strawberry jelly she take off the sausage too for the dogs and a hash brown and a syrup. she dips her hashbrown in the syrup. anyway i sat down and then here came sister and she was looking around and under the table and went back up there the girl goes did you lose your wallet yes peggy got it peggy works there and we like her alot and she always knows what we want if fact she sees us walking up the place and has our order in the register. sister wallets is huge thick full of stuff her credit card sticking out lots of cash tons of stuff. drives me crazy. i told her please think put your wallet up. yesterday we went to the sonic after picking up mom cat and got two rte 44 drinks half price. she picked her up by the lid and it went all over my new car...and my beloved new purse was down there on the floor. she moved my purse i was mad too and driving. she spilled in jim's last new truck. so i told her no more drinks in my new car. i had said that before but it was hot and my sister wanted a drink. she spills in the house her car on the inside looks like hell. filthy. cig butts holes burns just stuff. i love my sister very much but was ready for her to go home.  been hard this week with all the heat and outside in it so much.  lol time for tela to go home too. sister cold seemed better this morning. she needs to go home when she gets off work and rest. i hope my keeping up is back on tomorrow. jim working on an ac trying to get caught up on the ac cause he is leaving monday for denver. i want to see your peacock from your sister!!!

OMG!  I'm about to scream!  I get all these calls from insurance companies about Medicare supplemental insurance and they won't stop!! I tell them I'm sick of it!  Take me off your list!  I told one guy that I can't wait to turn 65, so they'll stop calling me and he laughed!  I told him it wasn't funny.  He laughed again.  I told him IT'S NOT FUNNY!!  I told another guy that I'm keeping track of all the companies that call me and I'm NOT going to use any of them!  The calls, the email, the regular mail.  Sick of it.

cal... I heard that it gives cats diarrhea if you give them milk.  Did you ever hear that?  Mine don't even like it.  I made a whole chicken in the pressure cooker the other day and thought I'd treat them with some of the scraps... They wouldn't even take a bite!  Just like their cat food... then half the time, Lily throws that up.  lol  I'm so surprised how fast your mama cat got tamed!!  Maybe when the kittens get used to you, they'll change fast, too.  Are you going to keep mama in the house all the time now?  I can't believe Polly spilled her drink in your new car!

rues... No, the grand doesn't have any side effects or limitations... she doesn't even have to get her heart checked anymore.  When she was about 2, her doctor heard what he thought was a murmur and said just to be sure take her to a specialist.  They found out that she had holes between the chambers of her heart.  But, they didn't want to do surgery until she was 4.  She had the surgery and they implanted a device that lays on the chamber wall and, over time, it grows in place.  She had to go back regularly for a few years, but last time doctor said she was good and didn't need to come back unless she had a problem.  I have cataracts forming, too... guess it's our age.  lol  When I went to the eye doctor last month, I paid them over $250 for just the exam... problem was, they also are getting paid from my insurance!  I called the insurance company today and she said she was going to contact the doctor and see about my refund.  Yay!  lol  Sounds like a cool gift from your sis!

Hi Cal! Some of my PBS programs are back on but not all of them. I can't remember if pledge drive runs all month or not! I'll be home in the morning so I'll get to see my Hyacinth. Guess they know better than to mess with Saturday morning Brit Coms around here! Lol! I don't know where this ac guy gets his parts from. I just heard him call his office and tell his wife to order the part. He told us that he has lost all his helpers to the union! He said he trained them all and then they quit and joined a union company! He said if he had to unionize, he would have to raise his prices. I didn't know there was an ac/heating worker union! Have you thought about a name for the momma kitty? I was telling Robin about momma and she reminded me that Tela was 8 months old, too, and she could be a momma. Only Tela hasn't gone into heat yet.  She is a tiny thing, more like a little kitten. We wonder if her growth was stunted because of how sickly she was in the beginning. Or maybe she's just a little cat!  I remember every new vehicle we got, Crow always burnt a hole in the upholstery or the ceiling of it with those nasty cigarettes! Won't have to worry about that when we get a new car since he quit smoking! I see that sometimes your N is still missing! Lol!

Ra, yep, I remember all those annoying insurance calls, a year ago! We were fortunate that DuPont helps their retirees pick the right insurance company. They ask us a bunch of questions and then they recommended a few companies that met our needs. We chose Humana and so far we are pleased. Crow's started a month before mine because he, like you, is a September baby! We still get an occasional call from insurance companies and their mailings, too!  Just never ends! Wow, what a scary operation for your grand! I'm so happy she is ok! It is amazing what doctors can do! My Stella loves milk but it always gives her diarrhea. Sometimes I let her have a little bit from my cereal bowl!  I just realized that I don't know what my eye exam cost the other day! This is the first time I used my vision insurance and the receptionist said I had no co pay! Then she told me that my vision insurance also covered the first $100 on glasses at Walmart's Vision center which is right next door. I can't believe I left there without some sort of receipt! Where is my mind?

Hi rues... I checked out Humana on the internet just today.  I don't know anything about insurance, so I'm going to the guy that I've used for my health insurance for a few years.  One guy on the phone told me to go with a well known company, not a small one.  He also told me that if I would go ahead any get a policy, the calls would stop.  Somehow, I don't believe that one...   Do you have to have a supplemental policy?  Or is Medicare part a & b enough?  I just don't know.  I'll have to remember to tell the guy to remember that I have this allergy to scents before I go... the last I went there, they almost killed me!  lol  I had to go outside and breathe every few minutes!  You forgot your receipt because you're getting old.  lol  It's supposed to be around 80 tomorrow!!  Maybe I can get some work done outside.  I don't have to mow grass though... it crunches when I walk on it!   It's been two weeks since I mowed!  Has Tela been fixed?

cal... Enjoy your cooler weather tomorrow!  I'm looking forward to it!  Nite!

Ursula.  I think she heard something.

I am not feeling too good this morning but I am glad I am able to say that.

cal, I am happy that you got the mama cat spayed and have got the kittens located and getting them some food.  I personally think little kittens are the cutest.  Well, all little animals are cute, aren't they.

Wishes for a gentle Saturday.  May you all look back on it with pleasant feelings.

Bears, Turtles and More Progress with Tasha - UPDATE June 17, 2016

An unknown lactating female bear put in an appearance at the WRI last night.  Mike could not identify her but thinks she is pretty young, maybe 3-4 years old.
Unknown bear at WRI
Unknown bear at WRI
She had a small wound below her right eye that will most likely be a scar that will help identify her in the future.

Painted Turtle
Painted Turtle
Painted turtles (chrysemys picta) are busy at the WRI digging nests to lay eggs.  Several snapping turtles (chelydra serpentine) have also been seen.  A gray fox (urocyon cinereoargenteus) was seen in the distance in the driveway.

Interns captured Tasha and Sharon engaging in a fun game of tug of war yesterday. https://youtu.be/deYpxSVOQYw.  This fun play is all part of socializing and bonding with caregivers.  More progress with her today, she is letting caregivers scratch her head and back through the fence.
Ted looking regal
Regal Ted
Holly has visited Tasha several times today, each time trying to show her presence by bluff charging near the fence.  Tasha is coping well; she simply moves to the other side of the den, she isn?t climbing the fence like she did earlier in the week.

Tomorrow, Lily?s Fundraising team will be hosting a Birthday Party for the bears on the NABC Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/NorthAmericanBearCenter. Announcement All proceeds will go towards bear food.  Be sure to tune in on the PTZ cam starting at 6:15 PM CT tomorrow for a live broadcast.

Thank you for supporting the NABC and the WRI
