Cole, when he was a cub.

Yesterday, at the oral surgeon , turned out to be a dry run.  I filled out the forms that you always do  when you go to a new doctor, and when he saw my record with the cardiodlogist he said he had to get his permission to perform te surgery.  So he will ask for that and schedule me for the work at a later date. 2 or 3 weeks as he comes down her only one day a week.  There is no resident oral surgeon here in Key West.

I am sorry for all who are suffering from the heat wave.  It sounds rough.

I hope all have a better day and that you can enjoy this Thursday.

Daily Updates
NABC Bears, Research Bear sightings and Frogs - UPDATE June 15, 2016
15 June 2016

Mike reported that Victor put in an appearance at the research cabin late last night. He appeared to be alone. Last time we saw him on May 31 he was withCurious Holly
Curious Holly
11-year-old Shannon (Donna?s daughter).  Bow showed up alone at about 5 AM this morning.

It was a very busy day at the Bear Center. The rain brought in a constant flow of visitors; we are hearing many good reviews.

Bear Curator Sharon Herrell sent us this update on the NABC bears.

Many of our Tasha cam watchers reported that Tasha spent time in the bunker den and may have even slept there last night, a good sign she is settling in.

Today Heidi, Missy and myself engaged Tasha in play. She stood up and licked my nose and hand. Lucky and Holly both came to the fence, she went to her corner and climbed but was talked down. She gave a little blow in my face. She sat on her side of the fence watching for Lucky. Heidi talked to Holly near the small bunker. All went well.

We engaged Tasha with the tug rope through the large wire fence. She played for about 30 seconds. We are pleased with her progress so far.

The interns are doing a terrific job caring for all of our critters. They spent time looking for worms yesterday, and today they fed them to the frogs.

Thank you for supporting the NABC and the WRI.

Hi you guys very very hot here over 105 like 110 hosing down the girls and sweets every hour or 45min. missy called me at 11:30 said mom cat is waking up and she was not pregnant. pete worked her in for me and she will be ready to go home around 3 today so almost time to go get her i am going to put her in my big closet have ac and heat in there tonight i will leave out the meanie boys oh no sleeping with meanie boys! odie is in the closet but he is a really nice cat so may leave him in there with her. the kittens i am really stressed out over them the two that are in the barn have not seen all day but really hot i put missys live trap in the feeder there where they are. so far no one else in there. i was afraid one go in and then other go in and it shuts hurts that last one. looked outside the barn door where them two yellow were early this morning with her no one in site i tried to sound like her but no go. rose sticks her nose out there getting aggravated at her. so i put out a bowl of water and kitten chow outside there i think the two in the barn will eat but i have not put food out in that plate yet hoping they go in the trap. i took my carrier and told missy to put her back in that not my mom's live trap have to take missy back with me when i pick her up. she told me to go by her house and get hers. i may take the mom out in that carrier and let her howl see if the kittens show up course all this heat is so bad. got the shakes just came in from out there. i may leave her in that carrier till this evening when that sun goes down some and see if she can get them kittens to come. i would like at least to feed those two yellow ones like i did the others teach them barn is food and i am food. no break in this weather till next tuesday. but i think only 100 tomorrow not the 110. gotta run i had to pay 137.50 but pete worked her in and she will be home today so it was worth it to me. if i could only get her kittens in here to here now. she is a really good mom cat i will tell you that pete thinks she is only 8 months old. Jim doing another big ac and bunch of service got a whole desk here full of paperwork again.

Cal, wish I could come help you out! Hope you can catch those kittens. They all sound so cute. Poor momma kitty is just a baby herself! Please take care of yourself in that awful heat. Don't want you to get sick.  Big storm coming thru now! Bbl.

False alarm! The storm went north and south of us. Lots of wind, though. It's a hot wind. Really wanted some rain because the pool is getting low. Haven't had to put any water in it since we opened it in April! My sis got back today from her AZ trip...4 days early. They are glad they went there because now they know they won't ever want to go again! They said there are just too many people there now and too polluted. They moved back here 20 some years ago so I can see how it would be different now. This place isn't the same either! Guess she wanted time to stand still.

Jp, Crow had to get the OK from his Ortho Doctor (knee replacement) before he could get any dental work done. Even today he has to load up on antibiotics before he sees the dentist. Does your dentist give you gas? Lol! Not that kind! Lol! The dental kind! That might make the procedure easier!

Cal, the ac guy is coming tomorrow afternoon! Hope it isn't something major. Crow was glad to hear that the owner is coming instead one of the other guys. Two different guys worked on the ac a couple times and Robin had to call them back. Finally the owner, Larry, came and fixed it right.  She said it sucks having to come home from work and then have to stay in her bedroom with the window ac! I told her she should be thankful she has a window ac! She has been smoke free for 2 years now so she finally treated herself to teeth whitening done by her dentist. Omg, her teeth look so pretty now! I told her I was so mad after we spent a couple thousand dollars on her braces back in Jr high only to have her start smoking in high school and staining her beautiful smile! Yay, now her pretty smile is back!

Hi to everyone!

HI Jewelies!  We have weather just like cal.  Hot.  No rain and none in sight!  My poor flower beds are a wilted mess, even with me watering them every day.

cal... Glad you got your mama cat fixed today. She sure is a young mama. I hope the kittens are ok.  On my local news tonight, they were saying that Greenville's animal shelter said that if you can catch some feral cats, and bring them to them, they will neuter them, free, then bring them back and let them go again.  I wish you had something like that there!! I finished reading my second Nora Roberts book today... waiting for the Obsession.  These books were ok, but not as good as her newer ones.  Tasha looks like Honey did when she shed her brown coat.  She sure is a cute little thing!  Love the pics!

Hi rues!  Tonight when I was out watering, I found a snakeskin!!  Yikes!!  Only about 4 feet from my back door!  Oh, my!  It's about 2 or 3 feet long and you can even see where the eyes were!  Ewww!!  I can't tell one snake from another, so I have no idea what kind of snake it's from.  I left it there.. maybe my daughter can tell what it is when she brings the girls this weekend.  My youngest grand has to have antibiotics before she goes to the dentist, too.   She had heart surgery when she was little, so she will have to do it the rest of her life, I guess.

JP... Were you disappointed when the oral surgeon said you weren't going to get your teeth work done?  I would have had my mind set and would have been disappointed to have to wait.

I got three calls today from the recording that says she is from the IRS and I'm going to go to jail if I don't cooperate... Makes me so mad.

Hi to everyone!  Stay cool!

Hi, Jewelies!! Hot, humid and no much-needed-rain here, also. Ra, you are right. Watering the flowers isn't enough. Cal, hooray! So glad you caught the cat and got her spayed. Even though you had to pay more, you have the peace of mind. Have you tried soaking some kitten chow in hot water? That way, they would be getting some water in their little bodies. Jp, better to be safe. I know you wanted to get it over with. Rues, so glad Robin stopped smoking!  Hi, all you guys! I went to a retired teachers' lunch today and had fun seeing some friends I hadn't seen for awhile. The weather was weird today. We had lots of dark clouds and strong winds but no rain.

Daily Updates
Research Bears & Play at the NABC - UPDATE June 16, 2016
16 June 2016

One of the WRI neighbors called at 9 PM last night to report that Shadow (29) was there at their feeding station. It will be interesting to see if she Burt
Burt
mates and produces her 13th litter this winter.

Lorie reported 11-year-old Burt (mother Shadow) put in his first appearance of the season this morning at 5AM. It?s great to see the big males returning. They checked the trail cam at the WRI and saw that Victor was there with Bow a few days ago.

At the NABC Ted was first to the pond today. He had a great time splashing around on this warm 75?F day. Later he was caught on video by one of our interns marking an aspen tree that Lucky had previously marked https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyofEOhERKs. Ted has been moved to the Haven Den for a few days while staff does some drainage work in his enclosure.

Tasha in her water tub
Tasha in her water tub
Holly and Lucky put on a show for visitors, splashing in the pond. Lucky dislodged the dead tree in the pond again. Holly had her own agenda zipping around the pond, checking in with Lucky and bushwhacking the brush behind the rock den. All captured on video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfANZGQGUjA.

Tasha
Tasha
Tasha continues to make progress. She is eating well and seemed less nervous when Ted visited her today. She didn?t climb the fencing as he approached, she moved to the other pen and was much more calm. She seems to favor the smaller pen and enjoys playing in her water tub.

Thank you for supporting the NABC and the WRI.

Good morning jewelies! it is 78 here and humid. Good update pic of the returning bear and of the bears at the center i do not have time to look at video today but will later.

Hi JP! love your pic of burt and the update today of burt. i was in and out of the barn last night till 11;30 pm did not see any kittens royals were ahead 4-3 i would see the game coming in and out then jim and sister went to bed i saw tigers clobbered us at the end. like 10-4 we are now in 2nd place.

Hi Ra! trying to hurry here. jim asked me awhile ago if i got any sleep hardly any. the food i put outside the door for the two yellow kittens was gone and the water almost gone i don't  think it was a raccoon cause the little bowl of food would of been tipped over and the water be dirty from them washing the food. i don't think they got the food inside against the back wall behind all my hay cause the water bowl was not tipped over. so i think they are still around she taught them to hide and they are. i hope. pete said they were big enough to eat on their own and i saw them do that.

Hi Obsver! she is the sweetest thing. last night after i took her out in the barn in her carrier and it did not work kittens did not show up i let her out in my closet. odie and thomas was in their. she rubbed up against thomas and odie hid out from her but she is so tiny compare to mine. really thin too. i fed her and she wolfed that down. loved being petted too. this morning she was hiding out and i saw the food was still on the plate i put out. thomas being kinda mean to her so i kicked him out and petted her and she ate that food. i went to the barn at 4 am and still did not see any kittens but like i said their food was gone and water had some missing. i put out that live trap again inside in the trough there. hope nosy rose does not set it off. sure would like to know if them kittens are okay and catch them. i hate to put her back out there. did not want to do that but if something happens to any kittens will be all my fault. so hoping to see them today.

I got to go hi to all you guys.

You guys! i was in the barn and looked behind the hay where them kittens were before and that food was gone. i had a couple cans of fancy feast in my pocket and my two raccoons were at the front of the barn eating their cookies and dry cat food. i was pretty sure it was not them the water bowl was not tipped over. but food in trap still there but that trap is on down laying in the trough. so i looked outside but that food was all still there. where them two yellow ones were last seen. so i picked up that food cause it is starting to get hot and put that with two more cans of fancy feast back against the back wall behind my hay. then i grained the girls and got back behind them and was watching that corner of that plate. then i saw my little black and orange kitten eating and then i saw that gray one and then i saw the yellow one and pretty sure the other yellow one!! :D they ate all that food got a drink a water and went back in their hidey holes in the hay. when i got back there the other day i saw all kinds of holes in that hay and lots of gaps so all them big fans i got running facing the hay goes clear through to the wall. so kittens have a cool place to sleep. i saw them!! i got 4 or  5 months to catch them before they come into heat pete said. got to get sister moving get to mcdonalds and get her on her way back to kansas.
