Cal, bring your cats to Ft. Wayne, and you can get the spay for $65 & the neuter for $45. We can have lunch while they are doing it. We dropped ours off at 8:00 and picked them up at 3:00, so you and I would have lots of time to visit. Wouldn't that be fun?  Jp, hooray for the good test results!!!!!  Ra, I know Michigan surely had buckhorn. Maybe you just didn't call it that. Just google buckhorn. Rues, I decided the sides are ok for now. I'm 3/4 of the way through the new Nora Roberts Obsession--good story! We had some rain during the night but not enough to do any good. Just heard the expected temp. will be 90. Say, WHAT ??????????

Good morning, Jewelies!  Well, I've been banished to the condo.  I developed a rash, an ITCHY rash, around my neck and my daughter looked it up online, and as far as we can tell, it's from the sun.  Glad it's our last day here and not our first!  lol  We're leaving for home in the morning tomorrow, so I can get our laundry done before we go.  Oh, well...

obsver, cal, and willi... I'll definitely be looking for Obsession when I get home!  It sounds like a really good book!

cal... Awwww, you have kittens!  I love kittens!  Hope you can tame them.  And, no, I don't want them!  lol  I heard on the news at home that a vet was having a special on fixing dogs and cats... only $20!!  What a deal!!   Did Polly go home last night, or did you go to McDonalds?

JP... Glad your tests turned out good!  That pic was of Jewel??  So cute!

rues... Is Shadow mean to your sister, too, or just "strangers"?  I used to have a cat like that, too.  She used to climb up my drapes and jump on me when I walked past... her name was Witchy!  lol  I ended up giving her to a friend and Witchy was nice to her!   One of our horses was like that, too.  Mean to us,but when we sold her, they said she was sweet and they even let their kids ride her!

Hi to all!  Hope everyone stays cool!

Hi Obsver! been out mowing it is so hot i am soaked in sweat. hosing down the girls and sweets fans going. did not see that momma cat since this morning i finally got my mom's live trap figured out and put together. it was kinda of a chore. i know i will catching them raccoons over and over like long ago when i was catching sweetness who is on my lap. would love to be able to catch them all and take them to your vet and have lunch. i called that lady vet in richmond her sec or whateveer said they charge 70.00 so i told her what the deal was and i hope them kittens can make it on their own next wed cause she made me an appt for then. if i can't catch her then change it. but she said have to leave her overnight and if i can catch her early tuesday morning dont know where to put her. all my rooms have dogs or cats or birds or hamsters or mice in them. i dont want to leave her in the live trap. no litter box . maybe i can get her in boo boo huge crate and drag that to the vet. then i have to catch them kittens. when i got sookie went out and found her new born kittens so no problem brought them in to her. that was 6 years ago and sookie just now letting me pet her the meanie boys loved me as soon as they open their eyes, so i am going to try to see this weekend if them kittens will eat some can food they do that then they can make it without their mom and maybe i can catch them while she is gone. she said dr. harris may give me a break and charge me 50.00 a piece for the kittens. missy called and said jim got her ac fixed last night i told her that cat had four kittens and not taking them to pete. 140.00 a cat and he will not give me a break i told her pete doesn't use jim for ac or heating stuff she said take them to dr harris for sure.  i sure hope this is my last rodeo on this stuff. it is 92 here.

Hi Ra! it was so hot i took off my flannel shirt in the barn and climbed up that hay seeing if them kittens were around no they were not and i left a plate with can food and it was all still there. had some dry kitten chow in the pans my raccoon was eating that. i hope she didn't move them far away. anyway now my arms all broke out in like a red rash and big blue veins on forearm popping out. wonder what that means? sure is cool in here. be careful going home and sure your cats will be happy to see you. i never had an animal that did not like me. don't think my mom did either.  yes sister left last night next week we go mcdonalds.  she checked all her lottery tickets on the way home told me she would be calling a little later when she got home. she won 17.00 is there a washer and dryer in your condo?

HI cal!  Yup,washer and dryer right in here.  I can't imagine why you have big veins popping out!!  I know I have them, but they're always there.  lol  We're going back to the cafe for supper tonight and trying to get packed as much as we can today.  Taking a load out to the car when we go eat.  Cool that Polly won $17!   You can't take the kittens in to be fixed for awhile yet, maybe you can make friends with them by then.  Do they have their eyes open?

Ra, your grands sound like par for the course on teen-age behavior. My grand's attitude really mellowed out when she turned 18. She is still glued to her cell phone, though.

HI cal!  Had to laugh... why do my veins pop out?  Well, I have strong hands and arms, not much fat on them, and the veins just stick out.  Hands are pretty gross most of the time and I gross my grands out if I let my hands hang down by my side and shake all the blood down into them.  They really stand out then!  lol  I just got back from going to get some special soap for the TATTOO my daughter got this evening!!  She got Pura Vida on her foot.  Means pure life...  they got married in Costa Rica and that is something they learned while they were down there.  I sure hope your kittens will be ok while their mama is away... May be a good time to get to know them...

Wow, I overslept good but I did not stay up  to watch the baseball game, which started at 9:30.

Daily Updates

Off to Alaska - UPDATE June 10, 2016

 10 June 2016

Email

With me leaving for Alaska tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM, I?ll be missing the action here. The staff at the Bear Center will be doing the updates on the bears there,
Female yearling eating dandelions
Female yearling eating dandelions
which is timely with Tasha settling in. Today, they began trying to give her a bottle like we did Holly as a yearling to facilitate contact and bonding between her and as many people as possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAbYnXRzleo.  She pulled the nipple off the bottle so the staff gave her the rest in a bowl.

Male yearling
Male yearling
At WRI, Mike Johnson will be taking care of the bears and identifying who comes and how much he or she weighs and noting any interactions. 10-year-old Bow and 14-year-old Braveheart were among the visitors today. Bow chased two yearlings, a male and a female, up a tree. They weren?t her yearlings traveling together because she had 3 females. Mike will have to dig into the catalog to get clues from the pictures I took. After Bow left, they came down and ate dandelions that have gone to seed. One gave a weight of 76 pounds. The best guess here is that they are Lily?s.

Painted turtle
Painted turtle
Painted turtles and snapping turtles are making their annual trek to the edges of the driveway here to lay eggs.

I give my two PowerPoint presentations on Monday, June 13, sometime between 2 and 4 PM at the International Bear Conference. They are fast-moving and informative and could help bears if decision-makers hear and see them. We plan to post them where everyone can see them and share them to spread the word. One is on Black Bear Language. The other is on Diversionary Feeding and the project that grew out of that using close-up observation to finally learn how black bears live.

Thank you for all you do.

86 and feels like 92.  NOT nice if you have to move at all when outside and stay in the shade.  Really humid.

JP you come up with the cutest "good morning" things.

That yearling standing on the branch with his leg over the other branch.  :D

Have a good trip home RA.

Hope you find your kittens and catch them Cal.

Hello Jewelies!

It is 65 here today, so get ready for some cooler weather coming your way within this coming week.  We even have some rain.  More like misting, but that might be the marine layer misting under the clouds.  I like the coolness, but am not so happy with the barometric pressure changes.

(Nora) JP does have the cutest Good Morning glittering images and messages.  Thank you JP for always making sure to brighten everyone's start of the day.  You are such a good man to all of us.  I thank you for going through the effort to finding new things to share.  I hope you did okay after all that rain mess with the FL hurricane recently.  A friend of mine lives south of Tampa Bay and they got a lot of rain that had no where to go.

Ra, my hands and arms have those big blood veins popping up too.  My tendons are very visible in my hands too.  Creeps the young kids out. Of course it does not help that I point out that I had cute lil hands just like they have when I was young.  hahaha.  Nothing like giving a few nightmares of veiny, tendony, spotted and wrinkled hands coming at them in the future.  Bad Eaglette.  Bad.

Cal, you are not alone about not having any tattoo.  I also don't have any.  Not that I find them distasteful, just not my style.  When I was young, guys got them.  Mostly guys with military tattoos.  Did you ever read the Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury?  It is a collection of short stories that are all woven together by a man that got tattoos all over his body that are animated stories, the short stories that is.  He was my favorite author when I was a teen.

Hi to Rues, Obsver, Willi, Nora, Blschue, and Chippy and anyone else that I might have erroneously left out.   ;D

Big eagle hugs to everyone.  Looks like the DNN eaglet is all alone, hot and panting.  I bet she wishes that she would have been nicer to her two sibs now.  The Decorah nest view was ruined by a poop shoot into the wind and well, has not really been that wonderful to watch this year for me.  I have a hard time viewing the cam when it is clear, now this too.   :D   I check in to see how the Florida eaglet is doing at the rehab center.  I cannot imagine that they will let that one out to live in the wild with it's right leg pinned together.  But you never know.  Nice to see Tasha has found herself a better suited bear home.  It will be interesting to see how she will adapt and how the other bears will adapt to Tasha.

Have a wonderful weekend to all!  Peace, Eaglette.

Hi Nora! it feels like a 100 here they said i been mowing came in at 11:30 am to give scootie his one pill now that he gets along with his regular ones at 5:45 am and 5:45 pm. really nice in the house so i hurried up let dogs out filled bowls of water and went back out hosed down the girls goat mowed some more stopped at 2. had to feed everyone and i am too hot and hot on my mower.  saw mom cat this morning when i went out the door to the barn she was crying for her fud i had it fed her but did not see the kittens saw her again at noon in the barn laying down fed her again but still did not see the kittens. so i am going to cancel her appt monday till i know where them kittens are and that they can eat on their own can't try to catch her. very stressful situation.

HI Eaglette! oh while i was mowing out in the pasture i was thinking of YOU! wondering if you was okay cause not heard from you for a little while. so happy to see your post. sure do wish it was 65 here!! my girls might actually go out in the pasture! eat the grass out there instead of the alfalfa hay. i got the veins popping out on my forearms probably all the time during the day i wear that flannel shirt so don't see them but my mom had the same thing my mom always out working doing something. i never read illustrated man but will see if i can get a free sample on my kindle and read that. i am like you some tattoos okay i don't care if other people have them missy has some CA got one with boobies name on it. i don't need a tattoo to have her with me just not my thing . did you see that video of that car with the fifth wheel i showed jp? did you ever see a car like that? i quit watching that dnn cam really only saw it little cause i don't have much time anymore did not like the way little one was treated and ra said don't read there later and i said don't worry i didn't read there anyway but really didn't. so i kinda just skimmed over what you was saying . don't know the details don't want to know them. that was a sorry nest. i hope tasha comes to love them there she will don't want her to be sad and miss that man. i know he is sad but he can come see her and know she has a really good home want her to be happy you know.

Rues! did you watch keeping up this morning?

Ra are we almost there yet?
