Geez, cal... I hope they don't show either of these deaths later on during the prerace show...  How sad!

The trifocals help me to read what is farther than the reading lens. I needed them so I could read the kids' work on their desks when I was walking around checking their work. When I first got bifocals, I just about fell down stairs several times. Never had a problem with trifocals. The lines go clear across--not the little patches--never have to refocus to see. Love them. I'm frankly puzzled why the docs. haven't been able to help your toe. Didn't you go to a dermatologist last time? Gee whiz! Unlike my boys, my girls are nearsighted and wear contacts.

Cal, I hate it when the horses run in the mud. I don't know much about horses and racing but I know I have heard many times how they get hurt racing in mud. What a shame about the 2 horses. :-*  One a lighter note...I laughed at the weinie! What a cute pup! A friend of Crow's brought his blue heeler puppy to our house to see our new puppy Molly almost 12 years ago! The 2 pups ran all over our back yard! It was fun to see them play together. Don't know what ever happened to the pup or the friend!  Dumb question...what is moon blindness? We had a gorgeous day yesterday but now rain is back. I think a couple days next week will be rainy, too.  My Hyacinth episodes our following yours! It was the one where she tells the vicar that Richard can fix the electrics in the church! He ends up blowing up the place! Lol! Hope Jeff is ok and he didn't have a stroke!  All the restaurants are open and using bottled water. I guess they will have to use throw away plates and utensils!

Obsver, planting flowers sounds like fun! I plan on going to Lowes tomorrow and buying some! I tell you, that's a great price on neutering! Is Big Tony still on your lap? Lol!

Hi Jp, Ra, Blschue and Willi! Hope everyone is having a great day! I just read on Facebook that today is Armed Forces Day! That must be the reason my town has all the American flags out today!

cal... If I had a horse that was going to race in the mud, I don't care how much money I would lose, I'd scratch it.  No way, am I going to put my horse's life in danger!  I've decided that I'm not even going to watch the race.  I'll find out afterward who won.  I was watching a race years ago on tv and one of the horses broke its leg.  Something I'll never forget...

Hi Jewelies!   ;)  Sun is out, just rained for awhile, but now it's into the muggies.  Summer is coming.  I got my  beach haircut Thursday!  lol  Man, is it short!  I get it short for the beach so my forehead gets sun, too.

rues... What kind of flowers you buying tomorrow?  Sure is hard to choose!  My old standby is vinca.  It does well, even when it's really, really hot and dry.  My kind of flowers!

obsver... I got trifocals so that I could see to vacuum.  I like that you can't see the lines in the lenses.  OH, I forgot to tell you guys!  My eye doctor looked at me real close and asked how I feel about my eyelids.  lol  I told him I hate them, they're puffy like my mom's were, and the only way I can get rid of them is to raise my eyebrows way up!  lol  He asked me when I got Medicare and I told him September.  He said that the eyelids can be considered a medical issue and Medicare will pay for it if he documents it in my records.  He said he can recommend a plastic surgeon to fix them.  lol  I'll have to think about it...   ;D

JP... I'll share some of my GET UP, if you'll send me some of your GO! lol

HI to everyone!  Hope you're all having a good weekend!  I've got the girls tonight.  I froze some of the muffins from last time, so I didn't have to make any.  I made bread yesterday.  I think we're going to have Philly cheesesteak sandwiches for supper.  I haven't tried that before...

Hi Rues..well i was out picking up the dog poop took calihoula and corey dog. i was way up and calihoula way down and eating on something then i saw a rabbit white tail a baby one i yelled to the top of my lungs tried to hurry down there and she hurried up and ate it. just sick over that. pissed off i finally got a hold of her dragged her in and beat her butt put her collar back on and will have to beat drama's butt when he pulls on it to not choke her. and got out the rope tied it to the deck and now she will go out and be on that. my little corn chip did not come when i called him so i had to walk clear down there pick up his lard butt and carry him up to the house. did not let him have it he is asleep in my room on the bed with the ac and fan going. he knew i was mad. so with them poor horses and bunny i am having a bad day at black rock. jp knows what that is. royals was winning 2-0 but now it is 2-1.

Hi Ra..i am not going to watch the preshow to that race today. i just can't. i think the race is at like 5:30 pm. will watch just the race and have the sound off on the tv. don't want to hear any talking. i know ra should not race in the mud. i know amerian pharoah did and won but what a chance to take. stupid. if it is still pouring and muddy i may not watch it either. risk a horses life for a stupid race. i see JP was nice enough to send you some of his go!

Hi Willi! Me too loved bert in witness.

Rues moon blindness..
A mare comes in from the field one afternoon with an eye that is red, irritated and tearing. Her owners chalk it up to flies and buy a fly mask. While the mask helps keep insects away from her eyes, the mare continues to suffer with painfully puffy, weepy eyes. By the end of the week, they notice that the eye looks cloudy and the mare is reluctant to come out of her stall into the sunlight. Alarmed, they call the veterinarian who concludes the examination with a worrisome diagnosis: uveitis, which is more formally known as periodic ophthalmia, or ERU, for equine recurrent uveitis.

The mare?s red and weepy eye is treatable with atropine to help dilate the pupil and reduce the discomfort, followed by antibiotic eye drops and anti-inflammatory drugs. However, uveitis, commonly known as ?moon blindness,? often recurs.

Moon blindness is the most common cause of blindness in horses and mules. It affects up to 12 percent of horses worldwide and about 25 percent of Appaloosas (Quarter Horses being the next most vulnerable breed). The symptoms include:

tearing
cloudiness on the surface of the eye
a type of scarring called butterfly lesions
redness and puffiness around the eye
muscle spasms which keep the eye tightly closed
rubbing the eye
head shaking
loss of balance or stumbling
pain and irritability
excessive squinting and blinking
a sensitivity to bright light (photophobia)
constricted pupils
In the worst cases, symptoms can escalate to include:

detachment of the retina
calcification of the cornea
cataracts
atrophy of the eye
eventual blindness in one or both eyes
The clinical signs may reappear every few weeks or months once a horse has suffered an initial episode. Each flare-up can last up to a couple of weeks, and with each succeeding episode, the damage accumulates.

Aggressive treatment as soon as symptoms are noticed can minimize the detrimental effects, but many horses still gradually lose their vision.

The disease usually affects one eye at a time, but it?s not uncommon for the second eye to also develop symptoms, sometimes turning a horse completely blind.

I put eye medicine in her eye every night when she comes in and i take her mask off. mask helps protects her from poking her eyes with something out there in the pasture. i put back on oral medicine too a couple of weeks ago. have to watch and treat it all the time and still she lost all vision in one eye and very little left in the other. rose is an appy too. and her eyes now perfect but then so was sodas once and one day not.

Hi Ra! I bought some impatiens, begonias, gazanias (don't think I spelled that right) and zinnias last week. That sounds like a lot but I only got each in six packs. I also want a couple hanging baskets with the million bells that look like tiny petunias. Then I need 2 lantana plants for out front. They always seem to be the last flowers they get in. Hoping Lowes have them tomorrow. And I always plant at least one red geranium! I'll probably come home with a truck load! Lol! Wow, I didn't know that about the eye lids and Medicare! Mine are starting to look like awnings...eye awnings, that's what I have. Just like my mom! Lol! Crow loves Philly cheesesteaks! We had never heard of them until we visited my sis when she lived in Philadelphia. He got the real thing there!

Hi Cal! Oh dear, I know how you felt when you saw what Cali was eating! That's happened here before with baby birds. Molly used to be bad about that when she was younger. I hated it when I'd find a nest in the yard. Just knowing what danger the birds were in for! I don't know why she quit bothering the birds but now she doesn't pay any attention to them at all. She'll be 12 on Tuesday! :o. Boo is a little iffy! He goes after the birds but quits when I yell at him. It's when he is outside alone that I worry what he might do! Thanks for the moon blindness info. What an awful disease! Sure hope Rose doesn't get it and hope Soda's other eye stays healthy.

rues... That doesn't sound like a lot to me.  I have to either plant the pots that I have around the yard or put them on the porch when we're gone.  I asked the girl if she would water them if I put them all together on the porch.  I call her a girl... she has 2 teenagers, but still a girl to me.  lol  One of my customers got a box of frozen cheesesteaks and gave them to me.  She had company, but didn't use them.  It's just the steaks, cut really thin.  I got some provolone cheese, hope that works.  I'm not very smart when it comes to cheeses...

cal... We never had a horse with moon blindness.  I wonder if it happens more in the warmer states...

Hi cal...  My daughter was here when it was time for the race.  I stayed in the kitchen, and she watched it, then when it was over, she said they were all safe.  We rewound it and I got to see it.  It's ok not to have a Triple Crown winner again... makes last year that much more special.   :)
