Hi Jewelies!  Got back from the basketball game.  Man!  It's cold!!  this morning it was 11 when I got up, and in the car on the way home tonight it was already down to 17!!  Hey!!  This is supposed to be SOUTH Carolina!!  Brrr!!  Oh, we won the game!  lol

I always have a tax person do my taxes... I don't trust myself!  lol  I'm pretty organized, so I have everything ready, but this year the lady has started scheduling the appointments herself, and my appointment isn't until late in March.  I never wait that long, but I guess it's ok...  No hurry, I usually don't get much back...

When I was in high school, there was a Rexall drug store across the street from the school, and they let us go over there on our lunch hour.  they were the last ones to have a soda fountain in the area. I don't have a favorite flavor... I've always loved them all and had a hard time deciding what kind to have every time I went there!  Love shakes, and malts... no preference there either.  I guess I'm easy to please.  lol

JP... I never heard of "shorts" either.. maybe we're showing our age, or it was different in different parts of the country.  I love the pic of Ursula... she looks so calm and sweet!

cal... I told my daughter how big Drama is now and she just laughed!  lol  She liked that you also call him your little Hobbit ..  she's seen those movies, too.

neva... What a smart puppy!  I had to share the vid!!

Pat... You don't have to delete your post... we're all friends here.

Hi obsver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Hi rues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Hi every one who isn't here tonight, too!

One of Samantha's cubs.  Too tired to climb down.

cal, that entire Fox theater building was constructed just as the theater and the shop was part of it and owned by the theater.  Well, maybe they leased it to someone to run for them.  I remember when people asked me  how  come I got into movies free I used to tell them "I walk in backwards and they think I am coming out."  Things were so peaceful then and along came WWII and changed this country forever.  I have no idea why malts have all but disappeared but milk shakes are quite common.  Your picture of that malt whetted my appetite for one.

Pat1640, Oh, sundaes!  Yes, nothing fancy except in my area we had a sundae called a "Tin Roof" which was really a chocolate sundae with halved peanuts on top.  And banana splits - one scoop each of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on the strawberry, strawberry syrup on the vanilla and pineapple syrup on the chocolate.  No whipped cream but a cherry.  Don't apologize about venting.  We all vent to family members and isn't that what we have here, in a way.  One family of Jewelies.

ra, I am glad the basketball team won but sorry it is so cold there.  Speaking of taxes, I do my own with the Turbo Tax Program and E-file.  It is such a great program just leads you through by having you fill in answers to its questions.

I have been turning back in time in my thoughts a lot lately.  Maybe I am just tired of all the conflict in the world and the inability of people to accommodate each other and reach mutual agreement.  That includes the goings on in this country as well.  I think my spending so much time in the past (in my thoughts) is even more emphasized today.  It is my oldest son's birthday and he is 67.  Hard to believe as I so vividly recall all sorts of things relating to him.

I was digitizing an LP, "Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits" and it turned out that only one track recorded after about two hours of work.  Now I have to try to get that corrected.  First I have to decide whether I want to have another cup of coffee or go back to bed.

Despite all the frigid weather, and I see that the northeast is getting hit now, I wish you all a great day preferably a sunny one.

Behind the Scenes Tour - UPDATE January 8, 2015

Looking toward honey's den
Looking toward honey's den
As we step out the back door of the Bear Center, we can see Honey?s wooden window den through the steps toward the far end of the building to the left. Then we look up the fence to the right and see the path to Ted, Lucky, and Holly?s dens.

Ted's den
Ted's den
Ted snuggled unseen toward the back of his chalet in the small enclosure Lily Fans helped build for Honey, who chose the window den, allowing Ted to claim her new enclosure for himself. In the wild, bears use different dens most winters, so Ted was not out of line, especially since Honey chose to re-use her old window den.

Lucky's den
Lucky's den
At Lucky?s den, we see no tracks , and on closer inspection don?t see Lucky, either. Lucky gathered in all the straw we gave him, and he might be buried in it like Holly was in this den last winter.

Holly's den (from behind)
Holly's den (from behind)
On to Holly, all we can see from the fence is her den cam tube covered with snow. Her den entrance is facing away from us.

The walk toward the dens

Not a peep or peek from any bear. We hope we can do better on any behind-the-scenes tours this summer.

Thank you for all you do.

Hi Jewelies!  Found this when I popped into the forum a little while ago.  Thanks to OEW for posting it in the Norfolk eagles thread!BBL...

IT CAN AND WILL BE DONE

Wonderful news from Carol Flaer of Eagle on Alliance,  Copied and pasted from  FB announcement:   https://www.facebook.com/?sk=nf

Good afternoon, EOA! (Please read this entire post)  )

This is the day we have been waiting for ?we have reached all of our goals ? our eagles are safe from harm!!!!! FINALLY!!!!

1) EOA was able to confirm that the Norfolk Bald Eagles have moved out of the Norfolk Botanical Garden and have built a nest on private property beyond the reach of the federal agencies;

2) Because the eagles have relocated, the City of Norfolk USDA-Wildlife Services have stopped destroying nests at the Norfolk Botanical Garden;

3) EOA has also learned that clearly as a result of EOA?s lawsuit, the Norfolk International Airport has now hired a full-time wildlife specialist whose only job is to detect and deter birds, including bald eagles, from the runways at the Airport; and

4) The most recent permit that EOA challenged has now expired and it will not likely be renewed according to our sources.

Because of all of the above, today Eagle On Alliance filed a motion in Federal Court to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit against the federal agencies. Our motion has been granted by the Judge WITHOUT PREJUDICE which means that we may refile our lawsuit at any time to protect these eagles.

These are huge wins for our eagles! And they did most of the work! Gotta love them!

Please read the press release that will be posted under FILES above momentarily.

Voluntarily dismissing our lawsuit does not affect EOA and our mission in any way ? the lawsuit was simply part of our mission ? a very very important part but we will continue to Eagle On! We are NOT going away. We have become a very good watchdog group (or watcheagle group) and we have made it clear will be watching everything and everyone as time goes on.

I have to say here, too, that without our outstanding attorneys none of this would be happening. I know you are as happy as I am with their support, devotion and service to two bald eagles! And yes, they are still our attorneys!

Dismissing this suit at this time will allow EOA to do a couple of very important things!

First and foremost, enjoy the upcoming nesting season, clear that our eagles are finally safe to be eagles and do eagle things!!!

Second, it gives us time to regroup and be prepared for the fall in case the eagles attempt to return to the Garden. And we will be watching!!! I can?t imagine the eagles leaving their current location, given the loving care by their ?landlords? but they are eagles after all. And we will be ready!!!

We will keep all of you up to date regarding all of the activities at the nest! You have our word! And you know we will. PHOTOS!!! PHOTOS!!!! PHOTOS!!!!

AND We will celebrate!!!!!!

The Weekend of April 3-5 of this year, we will have a PAR-TAY!!!! Actually a series of PAR-TAYs! Everyone is invited to celebrate with us and Dad and the Missus!!!! We will post all the details this weekend about this extravaganza for Dad and the Missus! So mark the date!!!!

We can?t thank you all enough for just being here ? and we want you all to stay here with us! We are NOT finished ? we need you here with us to celebrate with us too ? and continue to fight and protect and Eagle On!

Without each and every one of you we would not be able to say these five beautiful words . . .

OUR EAGLES ARE FINALLY FREE!
