Hi cal!  I was so excited when I read that about the Norfolk pair!!  So glad he finally made his nest on private land!  Did you say yesterday that your dad died 10 years ago??  My dad died in 2005, too!  Our lives and their parallel is almost spooky!!  :o  Cool that Boobie sent CA a message yesterday!!  Did it make him sad or happy?          Thanks for the yummy puzzle today!!  I love banana splits!  I don't have them very often though... it's so hard to convince myself that it's ok to eat that much ice cream!  lol

Happy Birthday to your son, JP!  You are so lucky that you can still remember so much about him... so many people that are your age can't and that's so sad to me.

Hi rues! It's still cold here... supposed to get down to 15 tonight.  At least we don't have any snow!!  I sure wouldn't want to live in the Buffalo area... I hear they're supposed to get a few FEET of snow!!  Geez...  Did you guys see the mess on the interstate in MI?  100 vehicle pile up and some of them burned up...  One truck had fireworks on it and they all blew up! Yikes!  I had to work this afternoon, because I took the afternoon off when I had to take Joy in, so I let Handsome go outside for a little while.  When it was time for me to leave, he wouldn't come home!  I heard him in the woods, but I had to leave him outside.  He's such a bad boy sometimes!  He sure was ready to come in when I came home!  He was cold and hungry, too!  Maybe that will teach him to come when I call!

ra, I bawled my son out by telling him he sure knew how to make his father feel old.  But I added that I still loved him.

lol, JP!  One of the ladies I work for just turned 80, and her dad died last month at the ripe old age of 102.  She said he told people he felt funny telling people that his daughter was almost 80 years old!  lol

Jp, that is so sweet that you told your son you loved him! I knew my dad loved me but I can't remember him ever saying it. :'(  My mom never said it until Robin was born.   Crow, Robin and I tell each other every day.
Ra, Wilson was out on the screen porch everyday last week while he was here. The cold didn't bother him at all! Bet Handsome didn't learn the lesson to come when called! :D  Gosh, no I didn't hear about that wreck! How awful. How cool to be 80 and have your parent live that long!

Something in the old stump fascinates one of Ursulas's cubs.  Is it Storm, Autumn or Opal?

This is one of those mornings so I will just wish you all better weather ahead and a top notch Saturday.

Suspense in a Treetop - UPDATE January 9, 2015

Lucky's den
Lucky's den - Jan 8, 2015
In this 126-second flashback from April 15, 2007, June had my heart in my throat watching the flimsy balsam fir (Abies balsamea) treetop bend, knowing how brittle they are http://youtu.be/Y3F1N3YqSMA.

The cubs are up their first tree. Mother June wants to head back to the den, but the cubs aren?t responding to her calls like cubs do in books. In fact, we see the lack of response more often than not. But June is determined. She went up and got a cub, grunting sweetly all the way, as we have seen with other mothers.

Lucky's den
Lucky's den - Jan 8, 2015
Lily was closest. June looked for the best place to carefully bite to pull her free. Mothers are cautious in these situations, not biting or pulling too hard. If the cub yells or is too hard to pull free, she will give up, as we?ve seen. June finds some fur on the Lily?s neck. Lily doesn?t squawk and June carefully pulls her free and carries her to the ground. One step closer to the den.

A correction to last night?s update. The picture of Lucky?s den was actually his old den from last year that is empty this year. The pictures of his den of this year with its untracked snow at the entrance is pictured here. It?s the den Holly used last year. Lucky?s selection of this den this year and his reluctance to share it with a playful young friend when he had hibernation on his mind is likely what led to Holly digging the wild den she is using.

Thank you for all you do.

4:19 on the 100 year old lady.  She shouldn't be smoking, doesn't she know it could kill her?

Hi Jewelies!  Brrr... again!  At least the sun is out today, but it's supposed to hide almost all of next week!  We know how we like strings of cloudy days, don't we?  lol

JP... You're so funny!  lol

cal... My dad had a stroke in 2001 and just went down from there, never even tried to recover really.  He was a real pain in my mom's rear, I know that!   :o  Told her she was lazy when she tried to get him to make his own sandwich.  She put all the stuff in front of him, but he didn't want to do it.  He didn't think about all the other stuff she had to do for him...  glad I don't have a husband, I don't think I could put up with that!  lol  Why are you buying Christmas songs now?  Are they on sale?

willi... That goose story was so cute!  I think the guy should have taken her home with him though...   :)

The grands are coming tonight... trying to get my chores done.  I want to get my heated mattress pad hooked up, but I need to cover all the wires, so Lily doesn't chew on them.  I got a package of wire covering yesterday, but I didn't get enough.  Now, I have to wait...

Good evening, Jewelies! Still freezing cold even with the sun shining brightly! You need sunglasses on because of the glare! You know that horse drawn carriage ride I took with my sis...well she found a farm near Cleveland, OH, that has horse drawn sleigh rides! So we have a reservation tomorrow at noon to go for a sleigh ride thru the countryside and into the woods. When my sis asked me if I wanted to go with her and Sandy I said no, it's too cold out and Cleveland is over 2 hrs away! She sounded disappointed so I caved in like I always do and said sure why not! The ride includes blankets in the sleigh and hot chocolate and pastries afterwards. They have buggy rides when there is no snow. Apparently there is an abundance of snow there now. I would have such a boring life if I didn't have my sister around!
Cal, I have that itune app on my ipad.  I'm still new at that ipad so I haven't done much with any of the apps. Robin tells me there is so many things to do with the ipad. I need to get her to sit down with me and show me all the stuff she is talking about. When I let Molly and Boo out this morning, Boo took off towards the bird feeders. There was a hawk with a mourning dove in his talons about to eat his breakfast. Boo chased the hawk away and the dove flew away unharmed! I was glad for the dove but also sad that the hawk didn't get his breakfast. I didn't know Boo could still run that fast! :D I watched my Sat morn Brit Coms! They've changed them this season, but Keeping Up and As Time Goes By are still on.
Jp, I like Ursula's kids names, Storm, Autumn and Opal.  Opal is my birthstone.  I love your sense of humor!
Willi, love that goose.  I wonder what has become of her?
Ra, time for the south to warm up! Yes, we all love lots cloudy days! What good stuff are you feeding the grands?
Hi to all!

Hi rues!  Your sleigh ride sounds like fun... but, cold!  lol  Are you going over the river, too?  lol  lol  You know... over the river, and through the woods...  lol  For supper we had meatball sandwiches... something I was trying for the first time, but I didn't like them... tasted too much like barbecue sauce.  I don't like barbecue sauce.  The girls thought they were ok though.  I didn't buy any ice cream this time... I want them to eat cookies!  lol

cal... You are lucky to have had a dad that was nice.  I could count on my hand the times my dad was nice.  He should never have had children... he didn't like them much.  the pics in the updates lately are so pretty and peaceful.  Nice to look at, but I wouldn't want to be there in the cold and snow!  lol

Ra, I don't like bbq sauce either! :D  I hope we go over a river!  Maybe there will be someone's grandmother's house on the other side! :D   I had a great dad, in fact, to this day we still refer to him as Daddy! My brother always called him Daddy, too!  You're the best granny for feeding the grands cookies!  :D

I'm sure I have posted this many times before, and maybe recently, but I like this picture of Sophie.

cal, the update pictures show that Ely has had plenty of snow.  I guess a lot of the Jewelies have as well.  We have not had any here.  Just rain.  Cute story about Maria the goose.  How about that she, turned out to be a he.

There was talk about dads.  My sisters and I always called ours "Daddy"  but Mother was "Mother".  My daughter calls me "Daddy" but to the boys I am "Dad".  I was many different names to my ex-wife.

I am till a downer but I am optimistic.  Hi to all posters and readers.  My the  bluebird of happiness flutter about your shoulders all day.  Oh, I thought the Ravens were going to beat the Patriots but Tom Brady did it again.
