Remembering the brave men (including my father) and women and their families who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, I am thankful for our country and all that we have.

Today, it was good to see Sharon’s Bear News showing a wonderful team of people working to maintain the bear center and its bears. Many good pictures here of people and bears in action

There was also action at the WRI. Lucy might have left Desi and Arnie. She was here around noon grunting and looking up trees for Desi and seemed happy to find him. Then, around 4 PM, the yearlings were here alone. Is this it? Or is it a false alarm? We’ll be watching tomorrow.

In other action, black flies are suddenly out big time, making me hope the hummingbirds will eat a lot of them. So far this spring, I’ve seen only males. I hope the females return soon to help.
More action today was baby woodchucks out for the first time looking like little adults about a quarter their mother’s size. We’ve seen only two out so far. Maybe the other two we saw their mother carrying a week ago will also venture out tomorrow.
Deer here are turning to young leaves instead of grass. This deer is eating the leaves of a Smooth Wild Rose bush (Rosa blanda), the least thorny rose. She posed nicely to show she is exchanging her grayish brown winter coat for her reddish brown summer coat.
Thank you for all you do,
