6:41  Finally got to it.
Been fighting with two major mistakes in my bills and balances for hours for the second time in a month.  This after getting up hours later then usual. Stayed up late watching the Olympics and doing solitaire on computer. I remember seeing 2 am. I think I am addicted.
Well short as it will be, i seems a nice day out 36° cloudy at 1:18.
Had cereal and coffee at 11:30. LOL  Morning pills and noon pills will only be 2 hours apart instead of 6.  Lunch will be dinner.  Need bread and milk so will go to Drugmart later with mask.

6:25 On Paws.  Thanks Cal.  No I will be good and go to bed at a reasonable hour right after the Olympics are done. I think that is next Sat or Sun.
Nice here today again. 39° and cloudy at 10:21.  May go for a walk a little later.  Depends on Olympic shows.  Not all are entertaining to me.  Surprisingly I have learned just enough about curling to be able to leave it on.  I think it is because the USA are the surprising champs from last year, and are still doing very well.  In times past I would have clicked it off in a few minutes.  Must be my age. LOL  Was very sorry to see Shaun White fall on his last run down the half pipe.
Mary asked me and my car to help Matt bring home a new chair on Sat.  She said it is white, and will
need care to stay clean.  I told her she never met a more careful mover than me, and it is true.  I wrap or cover everything and wear gloves to prevent hand prints.
We will see.
Cal, cats and mice are not good neighbors.  It is not in their nature, and you know it. Cats should not be allowed outside period.
Well enough for now.  See you later EV1. May God bless us all and those we love.

      Paws ...   19:42             73°   (2:04 pm)   Sunny and a very mild breezy.

Hi everybody.  I hope that all is going well for you.

Cal, I haven't as many cats as you do, but I do have too many for my liking.  Complicated story.  We have neutered or spayed all but one.  One of my daughters, if left to her own devices, would be a cat lady, she loves them.  Of course, I can't give her free reign to follow those instincts.  So there we are ... "You can help them, but you cannot keep them!"   She had promised to find them homes and she didn't do it.  Oh well, we basically are doing okay with the situation.  A handful of them and their mom live in my daughter's room and I don't have to deal with them.  I do have some that I do interact with every day.  In my next life, there will be a dog or two, and maybe one nice cat...  maybe.

Joho ... what a challenge, moving white furniture.  I remember when my husband once had to deliver something to a home that required him to take the appliance across a snow white rug.  He had to wear shoe coverings, but he still had to get the appliance over the rug.  Rug coverings too, I imagine.

The friend of a friend died early this morning - cancer, not covid.  I did not particularly like this woman, but I do feel bad for her, and for my friend who did see the good in her, better than I did.

Ted Resting, Redpoll Power in Numbers - UPDATE February 11, 2022
Redpoll flock
Redpoll flock

Yesterday, missing Ted, Donna and I walked up hoping to see his face and hear his friendly sounds. The temperature was above zero—not that cold. Redpoll resting
Redpoll resting
I thought he would be happy to see someone. I said the nicest words to him that I know. The straw moved a bit, and that was all. He wasn’t taking visitors. So different from exactly four years ago (February 11) when it was colder (below zero) and he decided to stroll to the fence and back, which Pooch Pal recorded in this 4 minute and 15 second video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69fIWGFrlL0

On February 7, I mentioned how redpolls have to wait when the Grab ‘n Go chickadees are streaming in and away from the bird seed spot. Redpoll warning Chickadee
Redpoll warning Chickadee
That changes, though, when there are a lot of redpolls. When a flock of 17 flies in, it is the chickadees that have to wait. The open mouth redpoll was warning off a chickadee that flew too close.

It’s not all about competition, though. Sometimes a redpoll, perhaps a full one, decides it’s time to just sit peacefully puffed up awhile for maximum warmth.

Thank you for all you do.

6:04 Happy Saturday EV1.
Still Winter here but not too bad. 27° at 11 am.  Going to meet Mary and Matt at Homegoods at 1PM.  I will be glad to see her and Matt.  It has been too long.  Have not even seen Debbie for a couple weeks.  Blaming covid for this isolation.  I really dont like it.  I would rather see them every day for a little while.  Texting and phoning just is not the same as giving them a nice warm hug which they will get today at least once.
Doc has cabin fever I think.  Ted is comfortable.
Will go now and get cleaned up for visit with Mary.  Bye now GB

Ted Frosted, Quiet Time for Redpolls - UPDATE February 12, 2022
Puffy redpoll
Puffy redpoll

Frosty Ted
Frosty Ted
Today, "Happycub" did what I couldn’t do yesterday—get a picture of Ted. This morning with the temperature down around 25 below zero, "Happycub" got this picture of Ted’s face frosted like he had his head partly tucked under his chest with his breath freezing on his face. Good picture.

I have to admit to taking an hour off work mid afternoon when I saw 12 redpolls mostly just sitting in a birch tree making me wonder what they do when they are not gobbling sunflower seeds. They made me get my binoculars. Two were acrobatically clinging to small supple branches pecking at birch catkins (which a couple chickadees also did later, one of them having a catkin pull free so it could hold it on a branch with its feet to peck at it.) Frenzied morning redpoll feast
Frenzied morning redpoll feast
Another of the redpolls pecked at a patch of snow on a branch, presumably to ingest snow like bears do for water this time of year. The other nine redpolls were sitting unmoving as if half asleep. I suspect that they were full up on sunflower seeds with their muscular pouches called diverticula in the esophagus full of seeds and ready to digest for body heat. They can hold up to 10% of their body weight of seeds in their diverticula. I wondered how these little birds can survive cold like we’ve had lately and read that they sometimes burrow into soft snow. We’ve had a lot of that lately. The last four redpolls were still resting in the birch when I finally went back to work. I was glad to see them resting as if they were plenty full.Redpoll on fresh snow

Earlier, out my window, a redpoll stopped eating, half closed its eyes, and puffed its feathers out bigger than I’d ever seen, even bigger that I’d photographed a couple days ago thinking that was big. Still learning.

Thank you for all you do.
