6:32 Temp says 4 degrees.  Did not feel that cold when I was out moving some snow.  Still have to go out for a little bit.  Mary has taken Odin and Nick to the shore at Huntington Beach on Lake Erie.  It is all frozen and is quite an adventure for the boys.  She will be the favorite aunt if she keeps that up.
Not much doing on today.  So I will say thanks for being here and CUL EV1. GB

No Fox, No Bobcat, Just Snow - UPDATE February 5, 2022
Deer doe
Deer doe
On this snowy day, a deer had a snowy face, a hoary redpoll wondered why snow kept covering its sunflower seed hearts, and a barred owl stopped by to see if any small animal wanted to get eaten. None did, and it flew on.

No one has seen the bobcat for over a week, and we wonder when Pretty Girl will return to her usual ways. She did put in an appearance a half mile away a few days ago, giving us heart.

   Windmill, Arizona ...   19:43
Garden Lantern ...    22:45              65°   (5:14 pm)    It's a good day.  Sunny with a bit of a breeze.  No complaints

Hi you guys!  I'm late in the day, as usual.  I live on the other side of the clock, more or less.  I hope that your day is going as you would wish it to.  Be careful with that door, Cal.  If you fall over backwards you'll smack the back of your head, more than likely.

I keep forgetting to tune into the Games.  I think I'll have to write myself a note or two.

The girls, Michelle and her daughter, Bella ... are out browsing at cars today.  They just want to walk around a used car lot at a dealership without being mobbed by the Salesmen.  Bella is getting ready to by her first car and she is lucky that Michelle learned a lot from her dad about cars, she is a big help to Bella.  Plus our mechanic has been giving her some good advice, and will check the car out.

I hope your evening is going well.

5:38  Hi ev1.  Happy Monday.  Nice here 33 at 12:24.  Nothing going on much.  Will go out to get diabetic shoe fitting at 2:30.  I wear shoes for a long time.  I can't even remember how long my favorite shoes have been with me. I am pretty sure it is more than 8 years, and I wear them every time I go outside.  My newest shoes i bought for Mary's wedding.  That was 3 years ago, and they are still like new.
12:30 now time for lunch of cheese sandwich and cabbage soup from neighbor Lorrie.

Pretty Girl Okay, A Day With Birds - UPDATE February 7, 2022
Common redpoll pair
Common redpoll pair

Arriving early this morning, I was happy to find fox tracks showing that Pretty Girl showed up again during the night. I’m hoping she’ll come again before I go home.

Chickadee
Chickadee
Days here begin with breakfast for the birds, deer, and Pretty Girl (if she shows up). The usual chickadees and nuthatches come in a steady stream for their sunflower seed hearts unless they are interrupted by squirrels, woodpeckers, or blue jays taking their shares.Red-breasted nuthatch
Red-breasted nuthatch

Feeding slows through brunch, lunch, and afternoon snacks, giving redpolls the opportunity to eat as they prefer. Unlike chickadees and nuthatches that grab and go, redpolls like to eat in place. On days that snow covers their seeds, they know to dig into it. Today was a special redpoll treat. As the fast-moving chickadees and nuthatches quickly landed and flew off with seeds to peck into tiny pieces, a pair of redpolls landed on a nearby branch to wait their turn. The breast on the male was the brightest pink I think I’ve ever seen. Later, the pair showed up in better light for the prettiest picture I think I ever took of a redpoll.

Just before sunset, a host of chickadees arrived for their usual dinner rush. I don’t know where they come from, but within a 2 minute span at the peak of the rush I counted 47 visits, one or two at a time, each staying only a few seconds to grab and go. I don’t know how many chickadees were in the flow, minute after minute, for an hour or so until they all moved off to digest supper in their overnight shelters and perches.Hairy Woodpecker male

Distractions like these make each day exciting and intriguing as I try to focus on what I’m supposed to be writing in the way of publications, reports, and emails.

Thank you for all you do.

hi you guys its 28 here 52 in the barn maybe in there and everyone came last night all the food gone and on my sidewalk had possums raccoonies siamese cat happy pretty came back.

hi neva i watched a little of womens figure skating last night i had heard about that russian girl 15 and i saw the woman from japan she did great no falling was in first place then i saw that russian girls announcers going on about her her first program no mistakes i said to the dogs she is going fall i just know it. so she was doing so good quad jumps not triple but then she did i think a triple maybe another quad she was really tilted in the air and sure enough she fell but still great when she got down and people clapping for her her face said it all she was upset but still she got enough points to go to first place. then i went to sleep.  saw on world news earlier showing julian lennon john lennons son he looks just iike his dad selling off his guitar from his dad i would never do that. showing paul holding him and he called him uncle paul he still has some bitterness about his dad leaving his mom for yoko seems to me time to let that go. showed him with his half brother and he too looks like john.

6:30
Shoe doctor says my new knee shortened my leg a half inch.  Hence back pain.  I am not so sure since MRI showed a "compressed nerve" according to the back surgeon.  I guess I could have both. LOL.
Anyway she added lift in both shoes to support my oddly long arch as she said.  I told her i don't really wear shoes much of the time.  So I would not expect rapid results.  She said come back in two weeks, and we will see.  I have always worn a size 10 1/2.  She said I measure out at size 11 and one foot at 12. By a different method she got 14.  So I do not know what size shoes she is getting for me next week.  Will let you know when I know.  She did make a mold of both feet so I should get new custom fit insoles.   This is a diabetic shoe fitting, and it is special.  She gets paid quite a bit.  I hope she is right about the back being assisted by inserts.  That would save me a surgery.
Well will leave you for now to check email and animal cams.  Have a good day EV1. 23 and cloudy right now feels warm. GB

Blue Sky and Blue Jays - UPDATE February 8, 2022
Chickadee against blue sky
Chickadee against blue sky
It was a beautiful blue sky day with temperatures in the mid 30’s F—making me wonder how Lily and the others are doing with the new litters they must have had by now. We’re missing a lot of information without a way to continue my studies for so long. I’ll try for a permit again soon.

Blue jay
Blue jay
It was a usual day with birds out the window. Blue jays are not as trusting as the other birds, though, and I got this intent look. I’m not sure if it was me or the 5-inch wide eye of the camera that gave it pause. Everything must have seemed okay, though, as it quickly began filling up.

Thank you for all you do.

Bridge ...  21:43             73°   (2:27 pm)   Sunny ... really nice.  They said it would get windy around the middle of the day, but so far it hasn't happened.

Hello everyone ...  I hope that your day is going  well.

You are right, Cal.  What would it hurt to give Dr. Rodgers a Cam permit?  Could it be that they don't want to appear to be favoring Dr. Rodgers, in the eyes of the hunters?  Or, do they want to impress him that they are in control?  I don't know, but those thoughts do come to mind.

I finally caught up with the Games.  I have to watch it on my bedroom TV, not my Laptop.  I started off with Skiing and Men's Skating.  Last night I got to see Cross Country Skiing, which I find interesting because of how really difficult it has to be.  No gravity to help with forward motion, so you are going and working as hard as you can on flat ground, and then every so often, you have to stop, get down on your stomach and shoot at a target to get bull's eyes, of course, and then get up and go again ... and you have been carrying that light weight rifle with you, all the way.  Pretty amazing to have a steady enough aim after all that hard skiing.  I wonder how it feels to be in such terrific shape as these people are?  Few people ever are, I'm sure, but it must feel great.

It looks like your gray kitty girl hasn't chased everyone away.  I think by now she knows she isn't going to starve or freeze.
