Hi EV1,
Did puzzle. not fast though. Already forgot time. LOL   Sounds like a bad time for Cal.  My left foot swells and feels like a sprained ankle sometimes.  My doctor said I had gout and started a pill a while ago.  Seemed to help.  No special diet.  Just the one new pill. Been so long that I forgot I had gout.  Last week at the doctor's he said " and your gout is controlled nicely" I said ," what gout"?  LOL  Looks like the PA family of bears is out and about.  Not surprised.  Those cubs were really getting boisterous.  Real cute to see the North chick being fed his little teeny pieces of fish by dad.  Wonder how the other egg is coming along.  Ok I hope.  Getting a little hungry so I will say so long for a while.
Very nice day today,  Had some nice perch dinners with Debbie and her son Brian last night.  Boo was there too, but he was busy entertaining his cousin, Abby.  Shannon's dog.

Daily Updates
Tasha has Energy to Burn - UPDATE March 27, 2021
27 March 2021
 Print Email
Nice music videos are coming in of Ted and Tasha getting their first meals of the year today.Dark-eyed junco male

Ted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXXbyYSzaek

Tasha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMnb6ezB4Io

Other videos show Tasha with energy to burn in the last couple days. This seems a little early, and from a few hesitant steps, I’m wondering if she still has some work to do on her foot pads. She sure has energy. She has come through the winter in fine shape.

Common redpoll male    Common redpoll female

Yesterday, Spanky pulled the plug on his sound, which isn’t needed that much in his situation, but we’re looking for an opportunity to see how to get it going again. We’re watching for him to take a walk, as he has been doing, so I can go there without interfering with his normal activities.

Woodchuck maleOut the window here at the WRI, snow is back. Dark-eyed juncos are here in number now, which is appropriate because they are also called Snowbirds. They come through in the fall about the time snow begins, and then come back north about when snow is ending. I hope it ends with this snowstorm, although maybe I should take that back because we need moisture in the soil for spring growth and berry production.

Redpolls are also here in number. The male is showing his pink breeding plumage on his chest; and the female, of course, shows none of that.

The male woodchuck (who should be named Chuck?) looked cute cocking his head looking at me in the window with his buck teeth before the snow came.

Thank you for all you do.

5:56 on robin at 2pm. Been a dreary day here.  Just right for palm Sunday.  Very sad today.
Deb and Brian gave Boss a bath at Shannon's house yesterday at 4 PM.  She has a fenced yard.  When bath was done Boss went outside and immediately ran away from them through a hole in the fenced yard.  Brian had a little trouble getting him back, but did it safely.
Nice quiet neighborhood.  Very little traffic, and small streets make for low speeds too. Still very scary. Boss and Shannon's dog Abby really got boisterous yesterday when I was at Deb's. They needed to be outside for what they were doing. LOL Almost wrecked the place. Gonna go to Deb's for Easter dinner.  Most have had shots there, and I will distance the two without.  I think there will be those two dogs too  Boss and Abby are very strong.  I hope they get along that day.  I am to bring the chips and dip, and my appetite.  I can handle that. LOL
May God's Blessing be with all those in need this Holy Day.

Hi Jewelies! Thunder woke me up last night! It rained most of the night. I love to sleep when rain is hitting the windows! Rain finally ended about 11 this morning and now the wind is howling. A high yesterday at 70 and now in the 50's. The wind makes it feel colder. Last week above normal temps and most of this week below normal! A couple nights are supposed to be in the 20's. Hope it doesn't hurt any of the plants that are starting to bud. Especially worried about my hydrangea.

Cal, I have a twin mattress in the attic that I would give to you if we weren't so far away. I was wondering about Augie's lift. It could help with getting Boo up. That's good that he is eating and drinking and going to the bathroom. Glad that your foot is feeling better. Probably staying off of it would help but I know that's not possible! Episode spoiler...Red and Dembe are both ok!  I agree, the update pics are so good!  Yesterday Crow had very little arm soreness from his shot Friday but my whole upper arm was sore and felt fevered! Today, all soreness is gone!

Jo, glad Boss is back home and safe! That was scary!  Glad you have Easter dinner plans! I suspect we will have turkey breast. I can remember many meals here with 2 Weimaraners and a German Shorthair pointer running all over the house! Each begging us for food! Many good memories. :)

Stay safe! :)

Tasha, Spanky and Wildlife - UPDATE March 28, 2021
28 March 2021

Tasha breaking creek ice
Tasha breaking creek ice
A chill followed the snowstorm of a couple days ago, so Tasha had to break ice to get a drink from the creek at the Bear Center.

At Spanky’s den, Spanky is still taking walks despite a half foot of new snow. This evening he was out for about 2 hours, but I didn’t go fix his microphone because I learned that the job is above my pay grade. We’ll have to wait until later this week when a technician who knows that stuff is available.

Out the window, the usual wildlife sparked this day at my desk. Gulls who know the program are returning. Spot the mink looked rather demure when she arrived and took a piece of bologna gently from my hand but looked more like she was making a capture when she found a piece in the snow. A dark-eyed junco showed me his dark eye up close in what is now my favorite junco picture.

Hi everyone- super, super windy here- red flag warning posted. Can't say as i remember a red flag warning here before. We had an inch of rain friday night and our road is dusty already. I walked with my friend this morning then went to the big grocery store. On the news last night the announcer said with the Suez canal blocked consumers were going to feel the results of the longer shipping routes. The only commodity he mentioned was coffee. I immediately planned to get a cart load today. Then hubby and i were thinking- doesn't most coffee come from South America- don't think the Suez is on the direct route from there to here. lol

The pictures in the update are so good- most of the critters Dr. Rogers posts are ones you never see close up. I like that our Ted is moving around too. I happened to catch the feeding on friday. Looked like dog food.

cal- hope things are going better for you. I've never had a big dog but have handled some in clinic situations where there was a lot of help around.  Is boo on pain meds?

rues- i hope your plants will be okay. next 2 days here are supposed to be cooler too.

johoward- glad to see you are getting out and about- and safely too. Feels good- doesn't it?
Waiting for tennis match to start- Miami Open. Started last wednesday but i don't get tennis channel- bummer!! Local fs1 and fs2 carry some of the action sometimes but i've tuned in to hockey and baseball. Geez! Sebastian Korda from USA plays in a few minutes and Jessica Pegula plays at 4PM. Will just watch scores on the computer.

Daily Updates
Spanky, Guitar, and Spot - UPDATE March 29, 2021
29 March 2021
 Print Email
On this day in the 50’s Fahrenheit, the snow crust melted, the snow softened, and Spanky resumed his walks. He left at 5:57 PM and is still gone now at 9:01 PM over 3 hours later. (edit: Spanky returned at 10:09, just over 4 hours later)

Last night, Guitar and Spot were together, wrestling quietly at times. Then they departed to Guitar’s quarters on the third floor in the roof. Today, Guitar emerged alone from a secure spot on the second floor and announced his presence by showing off his guitar-shaped patch. Now at 9 PM, he stopped by alone again.

Thank you for all you do.
