no animals for me. could not care for them properly. lucky to get through the day myself. the white birds are on the Mississippi river across the road from GSB cam.  when they swing cam out away from nest box is when we see the river.  not right now though at 1pm.  cul ev1

Hi everyone- nice sunny warm day here- 72.  In spin class i found out that the husband of one of my classmates (who was in class monday) tested positive for ykw. Bummer!  Then i decided to call my neighbor for a hair cut and she said her hubby tested positive this week. Quarantine there. So i'm letting my hair grow,

This is getting close to home here- our state has had high positivity all week. So i'm taking the weekend to rethink going to classes. Walking with my friend isn't bad because we're about the only two on the track. Just not sure whether the risk is worth it.

johoward- i was watching ted sleep just now. He had a little mouse deep in his straw and every now and then ted would lift his head up. So cute. If i were a mouse i'd want to snuggle with ted too.

I hope you all are having a fine day!!

Good morning everyone-slept in this morning- 50 out and another sunny warm day on the way.  I'm planning on getting out first thing to get stuff done before football at 11.  I was up at an odd hour last night and the NFL network had the 1979 super bowl on. My favorite team ever- Terry Bradshaw, Jack Lambert etc. I watched a little before i fell asleep.

I think i've decided to skip spin class for awhile. Hubby said there are young people in there and chance of exposure to ykw is greater than senior strength class. So after we kicked ideas around i'm pretty sure my mind is made up. I still have to convince myself that i'm in the vulnerable age group.

cal- is your sis having symptoms? Hope she is okay. Yay- jim is off so he can help you- right?

Have a great day jewelies!

hi lupe yes jim can help me here and there. sometimes i dont need any help like to do stuff on my own. going to see if my mower will fire up today it did not want to yesterday i had to flood it get some gas to carb so hoping it starts up today. i think good you are skipping that class and anyone can get ykw you made it this far dont blow it now. i dont know if my sister is having symptoms getting a straight answer out of her is a big chore very tiring. she was gagging and coughing last week when she was here but she does that all the time her smoking.  she still has not texted me back so will have to wait till she looks at her phone sometime. when she needs something from us she will look then. this is how she is. like im doing her a favor with all the driving license stuff not me trying to do her one. i am guessing she is back to work but i dont know lupe.

Hi Jewelies!  Nice fall day here... I raked leaves... again.  lol  A big tree fell at my daughter's house on Sunday... luckily, that tree didn't hit the house, but on it's way down, it knocked 5 more trees down and a couple hit the corner of their porch and dented their metal roof some.  She lives in a log house, so it's pretty sturdy and can take a hit better than a lot of houses.

cal... Looks like I get to watch the Wildcats today, hopefully.  Clemson game is at 7:30 on NBC.  Doesn't look like the MI teams are doing very well so far.  Iowa is beating up on MSU.  Thanks for the info on The Blacklist.  I hadn't heard anything about it. Hoping Polly is doing ok and was able to go back to work.

lupine... Sounds like a good plan to me for you to put off going to your class for awhile.  The numbers for ykw are off the charts right now.  I heard yesterday that my niece in MI has tested positive now.  She's a teacher and figures she got it at school.

rues... Got any pics of Maui?  I like that name.  Is she making friends with Tela yet?  I just had a senior moment and couldn't remember her name!  I hate that!

joho... Thanks for keeping us up to date on Snowman cam!  Every time I've checked on it, nobody is there.  I miss seeing the deer, that was a treat to see so many of them there.  Glad you enjoyed your chili!   ;)

Going to stitch for awhile before the KSU game comes on.  Have a good day, Jewelies!

Hi Jewelies! Another nice day! It's 76 right now! We drained water off the pool cover this morning. There's always a little left on top. Didn't take the birds long to notice it and start taking baths. They were also happy that I filled their bird feeders yesterday. I wouldn't mind having this kind of weather all winter long!

Cal, hope Polly tests negative! There's so much ykw in nursing homes. Just when the governor opens up visitation to nursing homes, it spikes and he closes them back down. You mentioned Jim's days off this month...Robin has always said that Nov is one of her favorite month's because she has several extra days off! This year one more because of Election Day.

Ra, Tela didn't like Maui at first because Maui was so rambunctious! Finally Tela took charge and slapped her! Now they are good friends. It's so cute to see them playing together. Wilson never played with Tela. He terrorized her. That's how he permanently ended up at my house! I'll post some pics of her when I switch over to my laptop. So glad your daughter's house is ok! I bet her log home is beautiful! Hope your niece feels better soon.

Lupe, I'm in agreement with the others...good idea to put off going to class for awhile! I finally cut back my hostas yesterday!

Jo, there were black squirrels at the Snowman cam when I checked in yesterday. One of the squirrels was practically inside the bird feeder! I love those black squirrels!

Have a great afternoon and evening! Stay safe! Finally someone I voted for won! :)

Daily Updates
Lily, Ted, Tasha, a Frog, and the Marten - UPDATE November 7, 2020
07 November 2020
 Print Email
I haven?t heard anything the last couple days, but Lily was still active as of 9:42 PM a couple evenings ago (11-5). Being up this late doesn?t fit with what we usually see for pregnant females, so we?re still learning. When she left the trail cam area she was headed for her den. Snow is forecast for this coming week, so maybe we can track her and learn more about what she is doing.

Also, a couple balmy days ago, Pooch caught Ted watching a deer mouse (above) and Taughtbybears sent a video of Tasha bathing in her winter coat on a day of near record temperatures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xyR1We5C3s

Green frog
Green frog
Yesterday around noon, a Green Frog showed me something I had never seen before. The lake was frozen except for a spot next to shore that was shallow open water. On shore, two feet from the water sat a small green frog unmoving and unblinking at a time when other green frogs are in cold, oxygen-rich water, absorbing oxygen through their skin. He was sitting in a lifelike position with unblinking eyes that I thought were surprisingly bright and lifelike for a frog that obviously had to be dead. I snapped a picture. I thought I saw a leg move slightly. I touched him. He was cold and firm but moist like he had not been there long. Then there was another slight movement as he hopped in the water. Was he up in the unusually warm air somehow getting extra oxygen through his skin? I couldn?t see that he was breathing through his nostrils. A puzzle.

Pine marten
Pine marten
Yesterday started with a visit from the pine marten (photo), and this evening ended with the same. In between were a couple surprises. Yesterday, on the third floor, as I stood behind the sliding glass door, the marten appeared just outside with a dead flying squirrel in its mouth. I eased away and went out on the second floor deck to get a picture of the marten carrying the squirrel as it came down the steps. He, or more likely SHE considering her size, didn?t show. I looked up the stairs to the third floor deck. There she was looking at me. She snatched up the squirrel and bolted. I went up and discovered that she has dug a hole into the soffit that extends down next to that upper deck. Unbelievably, when I opened the sliding door up there today, I heard noises in the soffit. The marten popped out?this time carrying a red squirrel. The next part is embarrassing. As I stood motionless in the open doorway, the marten stopped three feet from me, looking around and sniffing with the squirrel still in its mouth. The marten never looked up at my head six feet above it. She then dropped the squirrel and sniffed my sock carefully. I moved a toe. The marten quickly grabbed the squirrel and leaped up into her refuge hole in the soffit. This evening, she ended the day by stirring panic among the squirrels outside my window. The last I saw of her was when she ducked under the second floor deck where she could catch a squirrel if one ran under there.

Also today, I saw a mink walking away from the cabin area and wondered if it was one from last year. I hope so.

Thank you for all you do.

hi jewelies it is 58 here 62 in the barn 3 raccoonies. they had made off with one of my poop gloves i went to the back of the barn where the hidey hole is for them to come in and sure enough there it was laying on the tall grass. that picture of ted watching the little mouse is priceless. mouse is safe with him for sure. stopped reading about that pine martin and the squirrel pine not as cute as before. i would think a squirrel could take on a pine. im draggin this morning watched that game last night what a game it was too! im sorry joe happy for you but not during football jim told me go to usa and can see the game and i did. sorry tigers lost but it was a good game. my wildcats almost came back but did not 20-18 they have a hard time playing a second half i think. chiefs at noon. go chiefs.
