Good morning everyone- 34 here.Ra- wow- you got lots out of that hurricane. I just hope it's the last one of the season.  I saw some videos on the news this morning- scary stuff.

cal- i sure hope sister passes this time.  I can't imagine anyone coming here to live with us. lol We have our own routines. I sure wouldn't want to have to cook for anyone else.  My niece who now lives in Montana lived with us for a few months several years ago. she is a great cook- and at that time was a vegetarian. she made some really outstanding meals. Even after working an 8 hour day she thought nothing of trying a recipe that was pages long.  My rule of thumb is that if a recipe has more than one paragraph i don't even try. lol

We have a new critter here. Wednesday late morning my shadow came to eat and i had  a little canned cat food left over from izzy so i put it out. A bit later i looked out to see if shadow was done and there was what i thought a leaf in the bowl. When i opened the door to get the bowl the "leaf" grew legs and ran off! It was a vole. Haven't ever seen one that close to the house. Then yesterday he was on the porch in the afternoon checking for more food i guess. I try not to leave food out after being overrun by racoons earlier.  Hubby suggested leaving izzy on the porch to defend it. Very funny!! but i don't think so.

time for our breakfast-  have a great day jewelies!

Cal GSB Cam is a good falcon cam on the Mississippi River, GSB stands for Great Spirit Bluff.  It is a good cam shows a dam and lock on the river.  Sometimes you can see big barges going through the lock.  Sometimes they see lots of eagles too.  Mostly we watch the falcons in the spring rearing their young.
.  The one where Amy and Bob used to rappel down to band the chicks. it is a RRP site. Usually the chicks have done pretty well here except for bugs, but last spring for the first time I know of owls got the chicks.  It was sad, but that is nature.  Always pretty rough by human standards.

Be careful GB CUL

Daily Updates
2021 North American Bear Calendars! - UPDATE October 30, 2020
30 October 2020
 Print Email
2021 Calendar Updateclick here to view on bear.org

Fresh off the press! The 2021 North American Bear Center calendar is dedicated to our much beloved Ted this year. We once again feature Jim Stroner's fabulous photographs over the years and take this opportunity to honor Ted in his semi-retired status.

You can find the calendar by clicking here: https://bear.org/product/2021-ted-calendar.

We have a few nice words to describe our ever so charming Ted Bear printed on the extra page that we will share here:

Born in 1997, Ted came to the North American Bear Center at 10 years old, shortly before its opening in May 2007. He arrived with another bear, Honey, who was one year older. They had lived together all of their lives. (Honey passed in 2016). In July of the same year, a small cub named Lucky arrived. Ted took a keen interest and once Lucky learned to trust, they spent years playing. When Lucky matured at about 5 years old, his dominance changed their relationship.

Ted is very well loved by all. He loves to interact with people, and he greets them with curiosity and warm grunts. His large size (typically over 600 pounds) is a strong contrast to his gentle ways. He seems to enjoy looking at all of his visitors, who are amazed to see such a huge bear. Ted enjoys all foods, no doubt about that, but he particularly enjoys red grapes, strawberries, and nuts.

Ted entered semi-retirement in summer 2020. He moved into a new retirement enclosure where the daily traffic is less. However, Ted's routine stays the same. He takes walkabouts down to the pond, where he forages for food and frequently takes a swim before resting on a large log and surveying his domain. After he?s had his morning outing, Ted meanders back to his new home where he rests and enjoys sunshine and snacks along with a few visitors for the rest of the day. At his age, Ted?s arthritis sometimes bothers him, but it does not keep him from enjoying his forever home.

Ted?s winning ways have earned him quite the following over the years. He has fans all across the globe who watch him on his very own web cam which can be found on bear.org.

We are happy to dedicate this calendar to Ted!

Thank you for all you do,

Good morning everyone- 34 here and breezy. I just heard our local weather person and he promised "Boo-tiful "weather today. lol    Yesterday was nice also- izzy went out for awhile- she chased some birds- bad kitty- but i don't think she is fast enough to ever catch anything. cal- your relocation plan works for you. Not sure i could do that. Hunting starts today- pheasant hunting. Yuck!!

Football today- should i watch Iowa State? The U of Iowa plays at 2:30.

We only expect one or two trick or treaters and will greet them on the porch.

Well i finally know a person who had ykw. One of the women in my spin class had been out for several weeks. I teased her yesterday about camping and travelling a lot. She said "I had covid". Wow. Her only symptoms that led to getting tested was she was eating breakfast and she realized she couldn't taste the food. Then realized she couldn't smell it either. she was positive- 2 other people who live in the same house didn't get it. Only other symptoms she got were general tiredness and some achiness. Very interesting. Though in class we don't wear masks we are minimum six feet apart and all but the instructor face in the same direction. No one is behind me!

Going to be 60 today so i have a few outside things to do before football starts at 11.

Have a great day jewelies!

Cal, wow, Nora's neighbor really went all out with her skeletons! Very imaginative! I'm jealous, those skeletons have more fun than me! Our county is having trick or treat tonight! Guess if kids can go to school and play sports they can trick or treat! We haven't treated kids since Boo came to live with us. Molly would lay at the front door and watch but not Boo. He barked his head off. Now with no dogs  :(, we still aren't going to do it. I wonder how many kids will be out. My neighborhood isn't full of kids like it used to be.  My sister took early retirement and now regrets it. She thought that she wouldn't need that few extra hundred dollars that she would have gotten had she waited to go out at 65 but she found out quickly that it would have come in handy! And no insurance is very scary for her. She keeps saying she has to stay healthy till next Oct when she will be 65 and eligible for Medicare. Her roommate Sandy has been thinking about retiring at 62 in 2 years. But sis keeps telling her to think long and hard about it. Crow told me that we were playing your team today! It's nice and sunny but chilly here so it probably is in Morgantown, too. Another snake! Yikes! Glad you rehomed him! Glad that Griz is ok!

Ra, we got 2 inches of rain and very little wind. How awful for you to go that long without power! How scary that your customer had a tree fall on their house! Hope that you get your  tv, internet and phone back on soon! What a bummer. Hopefully no more hurricanes this year.

Lupe, I have voles in my backyard. I read that they use the ground moles underground trails! Wilson almost caught a tiny mouse on the back porch last week! The little mouse got away the same way he got onto the porch...squeezing under the screen door!

Hi Jo! Still no Chili-o at my Walmart either! I forgot to look  for it at Piggly Wiggly.

I have a box of spring bulbs to plant so I'd better get to it! Have a nice Halloween Day! Stay safe! :)
