hi jewelies it is 50 here 61 in the barn one raccoonie but i fill up all the pans with dog food and when i go back out in an hour and half it will be gone so not just one raccoonie. that holly taking tasha den after tasha did all the work holly go bunk with lucky again boss him around all winter. poor lucky. at least ted has own house with all the straw the boy wants. that mb is really pretty almost cinnamon color maybe one of her kids or something. and poor grouse sounds like the idiots are now murdering them. why cant there be a hunting season on hunters?

Hi Joho! oh sounds like you did fine! i worked on my sore toe last night usually i am too tired just eat go to bed but that one toe that started the whole toe thing has been so sore jim said looked like ingrown toe tail so i bought some stuff for that and put it on bandaged it up and it felt better ate went to bed this morning still bandaged but still feels better. wish i could get all my toes done and that one big toe pulled back over. it sticks way out after my bunion surgery another dr said he over corrected it.  :( tuesday not far off hope it keeps doing so well. i guess next on your list your knee.

hi lupe! hope you got your mulch. did you get your project done yesterday? a big project. winter be here soon then you can rest some and watch your hallmark movies i saw they are changing the macy's parade for thanksgiving with ykw. not many balloons no people holding them attached to cars or something.

hi rues! i was so sad rbg died and sure do with she could of held off till after elections. they do not paralled parking in kansas dont know if they have it here but not in kansas and she is taking it in ottawa 12000 people she said they did not make her get up on a highway just drove around town someone told her to keep her hands on the steering wheel 10 and 2 and when she took it she literally kept her  hands there had  a hard time turning the wheel cause she kept them there! i swear. so now she drives lifted one up so she can turn the wheel and now she comes to a complete stop at a stop sign not rolling thru it and using that turning signal it all adds up and most important keep your car steady and your side of the road sister! cant stress that enough. if she cant do those things then she does not need to drive.i just heard on the news on the radio that hawaii really suffering from ykw cause if you go there now you have to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days! then you can see hawaii so robing should check out that kind of stuff before she goes somewhere and really its so unsafe still hope she stays home and be safe.

hi ra! wow clemson did so good 49-0! i mowed yesterday running late on other stuff did not get to my room till 6:30 or little later ate saw clemson winning big and i went to bed. yay tigers!! chiefs play today 3:25 at LA the chargers but to me always be the san diego chargers like raiders always be the oakland raiders. there goes griz bark bark bark pee pot penny went all over my room at 1 am i got up and cleaned it all thank you ppp went back to bed today i am going to not give her a pred start weaning her off there goes all the dogs got to run

Good morning everyone- 48 here- a bit brisk just how i like it.
cal- no mulch yet but i did get a lot of my project done yesterday. I started at the north end and worked my way south toward the house. Two reasons for that- one is the bees are down there and i wanted to get that done before they got warm enough to get out. (I never saw or heard them.)and two is that all the other times i started from the south and pooped out before i finished so that part was worse. I still pooped  out after bout 3 hours. I did get a lot done- found some grape vines hiding in the other stuff and that took a lot of time.  The fun part was that since i was next to the road i got to visit with neighbors- more than all year.  Will try to finish tomorrow.

Very sad about rbg.

johoward- glad your surgery went well and that you could sleep. Are you eating good well balanced meals. Important for recovery.

rues- every time i mow around where my forsythia was i tell the dead stump- it was your fault for not blooming every year!  And mine was never snowman's arms.
ra- waiting until the last full moon to pull out weeds- never heard that; i do have a friend that moved some strawberry plants based on the farmer's almanac. It was so dry then but we'll see next year.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi ev1,
Beautiful morning here. First frost on grass.  I am doing ok, but been having a lot of lower back pain the last two weeks. Just what I do not need.  I suspect it is mattress.  So I slept on couch last two nights.  Not all gone but seems a little better.  Could also be from riding bike too much.  So I have stopped that.  Now I am concerned I will not be able to maintain muscle tone for knee surgery.  I will go back to biking after seeing dr. on toe Tuesday.
Eye seems to be ok.  Still putting in two drops per day, and wearing shield patch at night.  Don't see eye dr. until Oct. 1st.  I think I will run out of pink drops before then.
No big plans today.  Have to just sit around with foot the way it is.  Took off surgery shoe yesterday and pulled up stocking they put over my toes.  It is pretty bloody, but I left it the way they put it including the Velcro booty that protects toe from impact.  I will leave it on until dr. takes it off.  I am a little unhappy with the way it leaves black streaks on my white floors.  Luckily they come off pretty easy with wet toweling.  It is just so hard for me to get down and scrub.
This is not the year for travel.  It is the year for planning and saving for next years trips.  At least that is what I am doing, because I am afraid of catching something from reckless no mask people.  There are a lot of them.
Oh well, hope you are all doing well this morning.
May God bless all those in need.

Cal, I'm so sorry for the loss of your cousin. Yes, it is real. Glad that his wife is ok.  Our Walmart has the mask requirement but when I was there Friday afternoon I saw several women with kids not wearing their masks! It surprised me that these moms would purposely expose their kids to COVID. Wow, my iPad automatically put COVID in capital letters all by itself! I don't normally go to Walmart in the afternoons but needed to get Crow a birthday card and cake for his birthday tomorrow.  Told him I was running down to Robin's to trim some bushes. I knew he wouldn't offer to go with me! I left the cake in the car overnight and while he was showering yesterday morning, I hid it in the oven! So he has no idea how devious I am! Lol! I think that if Polly does all the things  she knows she has to do, she will pass her test. I'll keep my fingers crossed for her to succeed! Loved the dog shame! That dog was bad!

Jo, frost already? Oh, no! It was chilly here this morning. I think it was 40. The house was so cold when I got up at 8. Robin has already turned her furnace on. She said she wasn't freezing to death! I just hate the thought of turning it on in Sept! You are so right about no traveling this year! Robin is fearful that even next year it will be the same. Hope she is wrong. Take care of yourself! Hope your back feels better!

Ra, no I've never heard that about weeds and the last full moon! I might try that, too!  It would be great if it works! My grandpa always planted his potatoes during some moon phase or maybe it was on St Patrick's Day. I can't remember which it was! My memory is going. But I do know he believed in planting his garden by the phases of the moon! Lol! I've been so worried about RBG's health and hoping she could make it to next year. But sadly her time came. She was a fighter and she will be missed. :'(

Lupe, what's up with these non blooming forsythias? I see them blooming all over the city every spring! You were busy yesterday! Bet you slept well last night!

Have a nice evening! I'll be watching PBS tonight. New season of Last Tango in Halifax! Yay!

Hi Jewelies! Beautiful day here 70 and sunny!  I got some outside work done.

cal... OMG!!  What a nail-biter!!  I didn't get to watch the Chiefs game until they got to overtime.  That poor kicker... Had to kick it 3 times, finally made it at 58 YARDS!!  Wow.  That was a close one!

rues... I hope Crow has a nice birthday tomorrow!  Another Thanksgiving dinner?  lol  I'll be sol glad when we can get our lives back to normal, but I think it's going to be quite some time yet... unfortunately.  I'll be so glad when the election is over... I'm so tired of all the lying ads!

joho...  I think I missed something... Did you have cataract surgery on your eye? I hope your toe does well!

lupine... Sounds like you got a good start on your ditch project.  Always makes you feel like you have accomplished something when a hard job is tackled.

Hope you all have a good evening!  Glad I got to see the Chiefs win!!

left eye new lens on 9/1.  Still wearing steel patch at night.  left foot 2nd toe attacked by dr. Fri. 9/18 for hours.  Still don't take off surgery shoe.  Even to sleep.  Now, just tonight, left knee hurts so bad I can't walk right.  This is new and has been worsening all day.  Sure hope it lets up soon so I can get around.  Right knee has hurt for years, and back started to hurt last week pretty bad. I hate to be a whiner, but Ra asked, and there is no one here for me to whine to anymore.
GN now and God bless

Daily Updates
Bear News from Sharon Herrell - UPDATE September 20, 2020
20 September 2020

Tasha
Tasha

This week's bear news includes: Fall transition, Holly's red eyes and Ted's retirement celebration.

Ted
Ted
It's been an interesting week trying to move bears, they have their own schedule. The bears are definitely in fall transition; and this year they seem to be a couple of weeks early.

Tasha enlarged her previous dug den to her current size. She's a few pounds heavier than last year. Holly has taken over Tasha?s den temporarily just as she did last year and the year before. Holly is showing great interest in that den by sleeping in it while Tasha is in her personal enclosure. The dilemma is always, will she den there or wait until I give them straw for bunkers.

Lucky is quite comfortable in his new space. He has taken out a couple trees and shown us that a proper bear could easily dig a den under the huge rock formation in his enclosure. He loves to sit against the cedars and sun himself. He also likes to climb the cedars and look over his property for intruders. (Editors Note: Click here for a video of Lucky)Lucky
Lucky

Holly has been very elusive. She spends her day near the dug den or in it. The mornings are always interesting for the interns as they watch either Holly or Tasha emerge from the dug den. They haven?t shown any interest in the dug den Holly made her second winter here. Tasha denned in it her first year here.

Holly
Holly
Holly's red eyes have always been a true sign of hibernation for her. She looks sleepy. I use her as an indicator for when the bears will den. I'd tell you but we have a denning contest going on, which ends on Monday. Good luck to all that have entered the contest.

Our sweet Ted is ready for his retirement party. His old coat has shed, and he is quickly growing in new and sleek black fur. The ridge along his back is over-laying with longer hairs. Last year his coat wasn't quite as far along as it is now. This is another clue that denning may be early this year.

Ted's retirement celebration will be on Friday, September 25 (time TBD). He will receive a large watermelon ?cake? designed by his mom, Cindy. We hope you all will tune in this week for Ted?s celebration.

Thank you for all you do,
Sharon Herrell, Sr. Bearkeeper

Good morning everyone- 46 here again. Haven't seen any news yet.  Football yesterday was fun. I got to see the end of the Steeler- Bronco game- Steelers won and we watched the whole Chiefs game. Geez louise- it took those guys a long time to get their act together! And that kicker- wow. I couldn't believe he could make 3 in a row!!

funny mask story-  When i go to the rec center i don't wear a mask but we do practice social distancing. Between walking and classes i visit with the front desk person. Well- in the same building there is a day care and sometimes if the gym is empty they bring the children down to run around or play games.  They are taught to be absolutely quiet as they walk through the lobby where i happened to be sitting. They are just darling.  As they walked by me- all with their masks on- a little one looked at me and said "You're naked!"  Took me some time to figure it out- my face was naked. lol  Anyhow- that certainly showed me that children can wear masks- no problem.

rues- Happy birthday Crow- what kind of cake? Plans for the day?

ra- i think we have a new normal now.  Will finish project today. For sure.

johoward- whine away- we all do too at some time or another; one thing that i've learned about arthritis is that pains show up in a lot of places but are resolved when the initial problems is taken care of. That is your knee. Just be sure to be diligent in your physical therapy and walk, walk, walk.

Time for the weather-- have a great day jewelies!

Good morning everyone- 50 here this morning and another fine day on the way. Fall begins around 8:30 today. Yesterday was absolutely wonderful-- i got my big project done- yay. I even drove by there -twice- just to  see my project done., Of course no one besides hubby and i will probably be able to tell i did anything but that's okay. The wildflowers won't have to fight the little trees any more.

cal- good for you going to old people's day at wal-mart. I need to get groceries soon so maybe i'll hit old people's day tomorrow at my local groceries. I'm so glad you are going with sister when she takes her test. That will help her feel better. I'm glad we didn't have to take any tests when we renewed our licenses.

Just saw a bit of last night's monday night football- an NFL team in las vegas- when did that happen??

Time for breakfast-- have a great day jewelies!
