Good morning everyone-  WE HAVE SNOW! When I woke up and laying in bed I couldn't hear any wind so I was plotting in my mind where I would start my mulching this morning. Ha! I looked outside and there is 2" of snow. Not just a dusting. Mother Nature wins. I'm just thrilled for the new transplants I did. The only sad part is my bleeding heart. It suffered so from the wind- i'll know better from now on and protect it better. I may just cut it back and see what happens.

ra- oh my gosh! I'm like cal - just reading your post. So thankful you and yours are okay. I also didn't think S.C. was involved. So glad the grands stayed with you so they could get their school stuff done. Isn't it a bummer to have to keep putting mulch back. This snow should anchor mine in place-- until the next wind blows anyhow. My whole idea behind mulching is to eliminate push mowing all summer so i'll do the hard work in the spring to have that benefit. It does look nice too but I like the practicality of it.

Well- I guess I need to get thinking about plan B today. I just saw on the news that 2- 5" of snow are predicted for Thursday night- wow.

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi ev1,
Joan sleeping in her chair here. She got up feeling pretty good at 9am.  Took all her meds.  Ate her Bob Evans sandwich with two coffees, and looked at all her 79th best wishes from Debbie and friends on Facebook.  Then hit the chair to rest.  She started five new meds yesterday for inflammation and incontinence.  Most say " may cause drowsiness", and they mean it.  She is now taking 19 pills and four injections each day.  She is in a little less pain though.  Thank God.
Cold clear day.  Looks good, but not very comfortable with cold North wind, and only 38 degrees at 10:15.  Terrible storms for so many across the South.  God bless those hit. Thank you God for those spared.  Awful scary stories and images all over the place.
Good news is our baby Eagles are growing like weeds,  Especially in MN.  Bears are starting to get around, and I am very glad for that.  Sure have missed seeing their antics all Winter.
Nice to see a wild turkey at Doc's.  Just think how deer, geese, turkeys have re- established around the Midwest in the last 50 years.  It is miraculous to me.  I am so proud of our society to have helped out the wildlife like we have.
Well CUL Joan woke and is hurting.  Need to go get er some Blue Emu for her hand.  Not at store.  Just in nightstand.  Don't worry.  We are staying in and washing hands a lot.  So far so good.  Thank you God. God bless all in need.

Daily Updates
Bears, a Treat, and an Error - UPDATE April 15, 2020
15 April 2020

Yesterday, I saw my first bear of the year, and it was less than 5 miles from the WRI. Great Blue Heron, photo by Ellie Hintze

Keeping my eyes open here and have a trail cam in action. I had to pull over to do an interview on my way home for date night. Off to my left about 150 yards a big male came into view and stood up to mark a power pole. Trying to put the phone down and roll down the window to take a picture, I was too slow. Just as I was putting the long lens out the window he went down to all fours and out of sight. As the phone conversation went on, he crossed the road about 3 football fields ahead of me. Again a hair too slow.

It?s the usual time of anticipation for bear-watchers around here. It?s the question that?s asked in every conversation.

Meanwhile, Tasha wanted a drink of water, not an icicle or a mouthful of snow. She explored the pond, finally went through the ice, and turned back in surprise for her drink as "Taught" caught in this 4-minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhsfQyxtjms .

For a treat, local photographer Ellie Hintze snapped amazingly clear action pictures in the same area that Donna and I go to see swans and beavers, etc. This wildlife student at Vermilion Community College used a kayak to get close and catch the action of a newly migrated great blue heron landing in a marsh and a bald eagle eating a dead otter. I don?t know how the otter died, but eagles are valuable members of the clean-up crew. You can see every feather as our national bird sits regally doing its job.

The beaver is one that Donna and I saw on last evening?s date night as it carried an underwater plant into this passageway to the lodge that holds at least four beavers, young and old. I suspect the beaver will share the plant with the family as I used to see in the beaver cams that were in the lodge across Woods Lake. Good stories of sharing, of interactions between beavers and muskrats that shared the lodge, and of a mink eating a muskrat in front of the camera. All things I did not know before the camera a couple decades ago. The family that is wintering there is still iced in.

The error was on April 13. We said "saw a bear at her bear feeder" which should have been "saw a bear at her bird feeder". It is now corrected.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- 24 here and a clear sky. So hard to believe that after a few nice days we are having near record cold. Yesterday I enjoyed the snow mostly from inside. The birds emptied the feeder so I filled it and after watching a robin trying to get to the suet that was hanging I took another out and just laid it on the ground. I hope he found it.
After a morning on cleaning the lower drawers and cupboards in the kitchen I told hubby that cleaning was harder on my joints than doing mulch. Sitting on the floor and twisting and turning was rough and getting up from the floor. Not pretty but I can do it. lol  I even did some dusting and you all know how I hate to dust.
cal- is it icy there? Why are you falling?  you do need a bubbly wrap suit. You are going to get rain tonight and we are to get snow. Still predicting 2- 5 inches. As much as I love snow I hope we only have 2 because I have to be out early in the morning. It is #4 of my sil's  chemo infusions and we have to be up there by 8. Roads should be fine by the time we need to leave.
I filled the gas tank on bertha the other day- $19- wow!! Hubby and I have been talking about going for a drive but so far haven't done it. But we are getting home projects done which makes us feel good.
Loved the video of Tasha trying to get a drink and the photos- wow!

Have a great day jewelies!

Good morning everyone- 32 here and I think the snow is about done. 2 inches of wet snow. Hubby just got up and we decided bertha will be just fine. He went back to bed. I'll call sil and we'll leave a little earlier than planned. Yesterday I got the rest of my kitchen drawers and cupboards done. While I was doing that I made a bag of stuff to donate. I've been putting stuff in my trunk as I clean.  hopefully they will re-open soon but I think the ykw hasn't peaked here. we have several nursing home and packing plant outbreaks going on now. We will be very careful today- masks ready!!

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies! Winter has made a comeback! We have had 2 hard freezes and frost the past 2 mornings! Amazingly it doesn't seem to have damaged anything. The dogwoods are blooming all over the neighborhood. They look so pretty. We had 3 dogwoods (2 pink, 1 white) a few years back but as they aged they became diseased and had to be removed. But there are still a lot of them around. My neighbor across the street planted a new one last summer. Looks like next week spring may come back. I hope so. I got used to warm weather in March and hate cold weather in April!

Cal, we got our stimulus checks on Wednesday, too. My older sis got theirs but my younger sis is still waiting for hers. Robin had to pay taxes last year and this year so the government doesn't have her direct deposit info. She tried to enter it online but the site crashed. I don't know if she has been able to get through yet. Yes, her boss got the small business loan so now he can keep the office running. Robin has been working at home most of the time. But occasionally she has to go in. She always wears her mask. She has that autoimmune disease and is anemic so she has to be cautious. My sis and I went to Walmart on Wednesday. How I hate shopping for groceries for a whole week! I noticed recently that my legs ache. I think it's because I'm not going out 3 times a week shopping and getting in all that walking! Sis and I walk all through Walmart and then we always went to a couple other stores and walked around. So now I'm riding the exercise bike again. I'd rather be walking through the stores, though!

Lupe, our county now has 29 cases of ykw! Governor isn't thinking about opening up the state until after May 1st or later depending on how things go. He now wants to test and retest everyone that works or lives in nursing homes. They seem to be hotspots everywhere.

Ra, I'm so glad that you and your family were safe from the tornados. I have only been watching local news lately so I hadn't heard about them. How frightening for you! We have been having a lot of very windy days but nothing like a tornado! Bet you were happy to have both grands at home with you like it was in the "old days"! I see that Blindspot is coming back on at the end of the month. I can't remember how the show ended!

Jo, hope Joan finds relief with her meds. She suffers so much. Crow likes Bob Evans sausage gravy. Since all this grocery hoarding started Walmart hasn't had any.

Have a nice day!
