Good morning everyone- brrrr- it is 12 here but no wind. Yesterday was sunny all day. It's amazing how much better I feel when it is sunny. lol
cal- hubby's mouth is healing well. He had 2 stitches in there and he took them out yesterday. They were loose so swelling had come down. Minimal bleeding but he says he isn't ready to eat crusty pizza yet. He enjoyed philly cheesesteak casserole and sauerkraut soup yesterday from Second Street Sweets. I had the soup and a wrapless chicken fajita wrap. Absolutely yummy.

Today is cleaning day for me. Kitchen and bathroom floors need scrubbed- shower needs a good cleaning. Dust and vacuum too. Aargh- just get it done!

Hoping all is well for ra, rues, johoward, and jp.

Have a great day jewelies!

 D32 update ~

While D32 is ready for release... D32 has completed all steps in the rehab process - rest while the leg fracture healed, minimal work once the wrap was off the leg, small flight pen to stretch out and start rebuilding muscle, bigger and bigger flight pens to build stamina.

Other factors will play into 'the when' that you all want to know.

Those factors? Kay wants the area ponds to have open water and there needs to be several consecutive days of good weather before she will open the release window on the 20x60 soft release pen. Kay has no estimate on when these conditions are going to happen.

Will we have video of the release? Trail cameras and the GoPro will put out. However, we can't promise anything usable, but Kay says, "We will try."

Recall the picture of one adult and two juvenile bald eagles in the 20x60 from mid-January. That is the cohort that will be soft released together. The adult is Logsdon Park and the other juvenile is Rowley, also a hatch-year 2019 from Buchanan County, Iowa. (See that post here: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=2653360234748593&id=422229164528389)

D32 will not be banded. The banding of the four juvenile bald eagles soft-released in September were the exception.

Thank you for your continued concern for this juvenile's rehab process.

i am troubled that this poor juvie will not be banded should be the exemption as well he has been hell and back and bet you that still the rrp has not gotten one single dragonfly egg ordered i will see and write kay at soars and see why no band on 32

hi jewelies it is 16 here feels like 6 and it do! lightly snowing right now too. wind is cold but nice an toasty in the 52 heat lamps barn. sweets kicking and jumping around being silly. my 3 big raccoonies in there i filled up the pans of dry dog food they kinda moved back so i could do that and fill their water bowls. pearl says leave them be get back here with my grain!

i had asked RRP on FB about getting them dragon flies heard back pretty much what i expected. i had posted this...I am so happy for D32 release happy it will be there at soar like his sibling. i totally donate to soars they have picked up the pieces more than once what is the word on them dragonflies so maybe no more juvies jump the nest before its time and get hurt again they said this back...We have networked with colleagues and not sure if final decisions have been made or not. So much to consider when introducing beneficial insects and the plant habitat they need to sustain them in an environment. There are pros and cons either way. so a minute ago i posted this back.. i sure do hope they will be bringing in dragon flies very sad to see them poor juvies way up in their nest with black gnats driving them to the point of jumping who wouldnt jump. not like using sprays and chemicals. i will look for kays post from soars after this last year that said decorah needs to get some dragonflies and post it.  after i post here feed the dogs i am going to fetch kays at soars post on decorah getting those dragon flies i sure do wish anyone saying we dont need them would have to sit up that nest and deal with them black gnats. i sure love how dr rogers really helps all the wild life he  feeds them give them shelter watch over and stuff. love soars too them i donate too and dr rogers

Good morning everyone- it is 6 here and no wind and the horizon so far is showing no clouds. Just barely getting light but no complaints here- more and more daylight every day. The temps are going up too- 40's on the weekend- yay! Maybe the daffodils and the crocuses will awaken.

cal- I want the dragonflies too but understand that the balance of nature is a tricky thing.  I never saw those black flies. But it seems that once they are seen maybe something should be done right away to protect the babies.  Since dragonflies are native to iowa I can't see how they would be a problem. Not like getting some critter from far away and introducing it here.

Yesterday was a successful one here- got my cleaning done- floors scrubbed and shower cleaned. I put my mop outside to dry after I mopped. When I brought it in it had frozen stiff! Had to thaw before it could dry. I didn't realize that it never got above freezing. Sun was out and it looked warm.

Today is walk and class first. Our schedule is going to change after 10 years being the same. Our instructor who was the branch manager for 10 years has changed her title and is fitness director starting March 1st. This also enables her to become a teacher/professor at the University of Iowa. So to keep her class schedule at the rec center- she has to change our class from Tues.- and Thurs at 9 AM to Mon- and Wed at 8:15. Wowee!! We oldsters are not good with change. But we all decided that it's worth the effort to keep her as our teacher.
So my walk schedule will shift too somehow.

Time for breakfast-- have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies!  I have noticed that the days are getting longer! Sunshine this morning at 7am and dusk was at 6:15 this evening! We had a nice  sunny, but windy day today but that wind chill made it feel cold. Tonight lows in the teens! Then a warm up this weekend.

Cal, Crow decided to see his old dentist. He is the one that did his implant supported upper plate and the one that spends more time at his house in Key West than he does at his dental practice.  He is semi retired now and only works a couple days a week now. Crow sees him next Monday. I've been making him a lot of bowls of soup! Crow is hoping this dentist doesn't charge as much as the younger dentist does. The cable company sent another repairman yesterday. He went up the pole and checked things out and came back down and said everything looked good and call if we have any more problems! You can bet on that! So far, knock on wood, we haven't lost cable, yet! Robin said everyone was looking at the repairmen in front of Abbey Studios. She and Letty must have missed whatever it was because they saw nothing! Lol! Unfortunately they didn't see any Beatle or the queen either! Yep, that was the trip to see Harry Potter, Sept 2016. Glad that Sweets is better! It's always scary and worrisome when they are ill. Good to hear that D 32 is ready for release. I don't understand why he won't be banded. Wish they would get those dragon flies. We always have a few that dip into our pool water. Guess they are getting a drink!

Lupe, my daffodils are up at least 3 inches. Thank goodness no buds yet. Also noticed the quince bush is starting to bud. Hope it doesn't get bit tonight with the temps in the teens. So far my forsythia hasn't budded out. I've decided if it fails to bloom this spring, I'm drastically cutting it back. I'm with you, I don't like change. I don't adapt well!

Ra, got that laptop working yet? Did you see Manifest Monday?

Jp and Jo, hope you guys are doing ok!

Have a great evening! :)

Blue Sky and Sunshine, Bear Center Advances - UPDATE February 20, 2020

No minks today?same as on the other days following cold nights. It was minus 26?F on the way to the WRI this morning but reached 20? above.White breasted nuthatch

A white-breasted nuthatch took a spot in the sun to help show off the beautiful blue sky with no clouds today.

A chickadee demonstrated how the very fluffy 3 inches of snow of a few days ago has firmed up by landing on it without floundering.

At the Bear Center, we are making exhibit changes beyond what any of us thought as new ideas pop into people?s heads for better organization, new videos on bigger screens, moving the big brown bear into a new grizzly/brown bear section, making room for a computer kiosk for kids to have answered the way kids do now, rearranging pictures, updating some information, new pretty woodwork, and more. Judy McClure is feeling pretty good except for her back, so she is digging in with her good ideas.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone- 12 here and supposed to get windy but going up to 40 I think. We may even see 50 here tomorrow and sunday.  I put the heated water bowl out but my 2 critters are sleeping in. Will check later.

I took my sil for a bandage change on her PIc line yesterday. We went to the infusion center to get that done- had wondered about getting her primary care clinic do it but I think it's much better to have those oncology nurses do it. They are used to it and know what to look for. All was good. Then we did a little grocery shopping. We came straight home then- really want to limit her exposure to crowds of people. She is susceptible to infections at this point.

Hawkeyes played Ohio State last night- good game- we won 85-76. Did you watch johoward? Getting down to the last  games of the regular season.
Also heard that Roger Federer had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Will be out of several tournaments but back by Wimbledon in late June.

Not much going on here- rues- i'm going to look for my daffs- so enying yours!!

Have a great day jewelies!
