Daily Updates
Man vs Bear; Flying Squirrels, Big Snowflakes, and More - UPDATE December 5, 2019

On Man Vs. Bear last night (Discovery Channel), I was glad no one got hurt being jerked off a platform into the water by a bear that Red squirrel

powerful. As you all know, the big snarls and sounds we saw so frequently were trained behaviors, not something a person would see in the wild.

At the Bear Center, flying squirrels are providing action while the bears take a few months off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g6jjZxVNfc

Out the window at the WRI, big snowflakes floated down, adding fluffy decorations to the chickadees? perches during this Christmas season. A red squirrel took shelter from the snow by extending its tail up to its head. We don?t usually see the tip of the tail extended like that.

A downy woodpecker arrived with her stubby bill, followed by a hairy woodpecker who held perfectly still for a picture of his longer bill that helps separate these two species when it is hard to judge overall size.

The Black Bear Field Courses are filling up nicely. One has two spaces left, and two have 3 spaces left.

Otherwise, it was a day at the office typing words and wishing a mink, fox, fisher, or pine marten would add their personas. Unlike last winter, few of these animals are being seen in the area.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone-  30 here today. We've had 2 beautiful, sunny days.

johoward- I forgot all about thursday night football. Glad the bears won. So sorry for all you are going through.  I know what you mean about people doing their job right the first time- very frustrating.

cal- I haven't seen but one woodpecker so far this year. I've had suet out for weeks. I also didn't realize the difference in beak length. I learned something new today. As for wrapping gifts- the bags sound like a great idea. I never was very neat about wrapping. Luckily the one gift I give is the box I send to my niece- no wrapping there- just put in box and ship. I ordered cream puffs from my favorite baker already. I'll put them on plates andcover with saran wrap. Easy peasy.

nora- glad you mentioned sending your sister's package off- reminds me i'd better get mine together.  Does Chester go in while you get a haircut?lol

Have a great day jewelies!

Hi Jewelies! Dreary, chilly rainy day  here in the 40's. Walmart was a crowded mess this morning. Seems everyone is shopping early. Yesterday we went and decorated parents and grandparents graves. It was a sunny day but a windy one especially up on those hillsides. Like to froze to death! On the drive home we stopped at Dairy Queen in Sistersville for lunch. I don't know what they have done to their hot dog sauce but tastes awful! Anyway, sis and I had a good time!

Cal, hope the tv guy comes promptly and fixes your TVs! I hate to sit around waiting for a service tech to come. Our tv cable company always says you can pick the time between 8 and noon or 1 to 5 for their visit. It's usually the later time they get here. I like your card! It's fun looking for those sheep!

Lupe, I learned something new today, too, about the bird beaks! I've gotten lazy when it comes to wrapping packages...I use those darn gift bags all the time now! I never was very good at wrapping.

Jo, you and Joan have so much going on. I hope things get better for both of you. Yay, you got what you wanted for your birthday! That's always a good thing!

Nora, nice card and wrapped package! Boo need his nails trimmed, too. After I cut one nail too short and it bled, I've been a little leery trying it again!

Have a nice afternoon!

Hi Jewelies!  Cloudy here today, but I managed to spend the day raking without any rain.  Another week and I might be done, if I'm lucky!  lol

cal and rues... What sheep??  I somehow missed seeing sheep on my advent calendar... even went back to find them, but still didn't see them!  What am I missing??

Joho...  How do you like your new nickname?  lol  I'm so sorry Joan is having such a hard time.  I never ask for anything for my birthday... don't want just anything either.  I usually just tell them to take me out to eat or buy me a bag or M&M's or something like that.

cal... Hope the cable guy showed up, so you can sleep in your room!  I don't see anything wrong with using gift bags for Christmas.  I do both... some things just do better in one of the bags.   Clemson plays Virginia tomorrow in the ACC Championship game... 7:30 on ABC.  GA plays LSU tomorrow, too, but haven't heard what time yet.

rues... What does Robin want for Christmas this year?  I'm done shopping, but need to get candy for everyone's goodie bag.  I need to find a good sale on Hershey Kisses and stuff like that.  Blacklist is on tonight!

Lupine... Do you get the cream puffs for your friends and neighbors?

I love seeing everyone's cards and stuff from their calendars!  Very nice!

Hi Nora, JP, Neva, obsver and anyone I've missed!

Good morning everyone- that dog shame is very funny- when I find a bit of poop in my garden I count myself lucky because I didn't have to shovel that bit of compost!
cal-so glad your tv guy made it. Is your Walmart open real early? I don't like crowds either.

ra- yes cream puffs are for neighbors and nieces and nephew and sils that live here. We deliver them the same day they are made and were a big hit last year.  I do like to bake just don't like all the temptation around. And I like to support our local businesses.

Iowa basketball team lost to Michigan last night 103 to 91. Yeesh. Michigan is ranked 4th and iowa isn't ranked at all. I checked the tv schedule and Clemson is on at the same time as the big 10 championship game- Ohio State against Wisconsin.
we'll try to watch both somehow.  Johoward- you cheering for Ohio State???

rues- I think people are taking advantage of nice weather to get shopping done around here. Next week is going to get cold. Glad you and your sis had a good visit despite the yucky hot dog sauce.  does your dairy queen stay open all year?

Have a great day jewelies!
