Tashha.

Greetings all you Jewelies.  I hope, and send wishes for a successful day.

Up late watching the Macy's fireworks show.  Good entertainment and then the synchronized display from the 4 barges with the music.  So enjoyable.  I heard but could not get out to see our local display.  The Rotary club sponsors it each year.

Marlins won 2 out of 3 from the Rays (inter league game).

22 Hours to Go - UPDATE July 4, 2018
 Print  Email
On June 28, Lily Fans decided to show their appreciation to Al and Kim Garber for what they did to put my research on track toward all that happened since 1999. I cannot show my appreciation enough. Lily Fans are making it possible to do that.Vote

Voting began with Al and Kim behind 56 to 450. Lily Fans put Al and Kim in the race. The next day, we were still in second place but the score of 405 to 840 showed that we were fighting. On June 30, the score was 706 to 1,003. We were closing the gap. On July 1, the gap was smaller at 1,023 to 1,211. My heart sang. Al and Kim were thankful. It looked possible to take over the lead by the time voting ended at 2pm Hawaii time on July 5 (7pm CST). On July 2, we took over the lead at 1,312 to 1,308. On July 3, Lily Fans rallied with 377 votes to make our lead 1,689 to 1,353. Today, we celebrated July 4th with a lead of 1,989 to 1,360. But another contender has emerged, racking up 430 votes in 24 hours to total 1,352 votes.

But I doubt that this new contender has the power of Lily Fans. I believe that another day of strong voting will keep us in the lead. Thank you for what you are doing here.

NOTE FROM LINDA: When I gave Dr. Rogers the numbers reflected above at 5:30 this evening, it did not look urgent to either of us, we were over 600 points ahead. However, a quick refresh of the numbers tonight show that the contender has very nearly caught up! If we are to win this contest we may need to call upon the help of family and friends. Hi everyone- slept in this morning because I stayed up to watch the fireworks. The Rotary in our small town sponsors them and they are really nice. We could see them from our back porch- town is 4 miles away and the noise was still really loud. I almost missed the start of the tennis this am- a full day because some matches were finished from last nights rain. john Isner and Frances Tiafoe from the USA both won but all the women who played today lost. From what I could tell they were good competitive matches though. Rafa won as did Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep. I like her. Cal= I think you asked about the girl with the towel over her head. Lucie Safarove- I believe- she did win. She is a doubles partner to Bethany Matek-Sands from the USA. Last year Bethany was playing a singles match a Wimbledon when she fell and dislocated her knee and suffered other tendon or ligament damage. Really sad. I like Bethany because she's really a character- always has colors in her hair and very colorful outfits (except for Wimbledon) and she wears knee socks. In January she wasn't yet playing but did some commentating on the Australian Open. Really liked her insight and demeanor/ She was doing the commentary the other day when you heard the topwel over her head story. She and Lucie won their first doubles match yesterday or was that today. ?  Hard to keep days straight-

jp - ty for tugboat bears and tasha- I just saw holly and lucky in the pond at NABC- looked cool!
rues those 2 little guys are adorable- really like the hats. My guess is molly would have been fine swimming- maybe you should try her out with you in the water too. I bet she'll surprise you.

I made a mixture of stuff to spray on the Japanese beetles- don't know if it kills them but the numbers have gone way down. Waggles tree looks funny- eaten leaves are falling off but there is still a lot of green leaves too.  No rain here but the corn looks good- usually they say it should be knee high by the fourth of july but this year it's already tassling so it's probably 6 feet tall.

hi to everyone- johoward- good to hear from you.

I Think We Won!!! - UPDATE July 5, 2018
 Print  Email
As Lily Fans roared forward with unbelievable fervor, registering a record 500 votes today, a competitor registered over 600 votes per hour at times. Pono Ukulele Contest Prize
Pono Ukulele Contest Prize
We were crestfallen. Then the competitor disappeared. We don't understand it, but I think it means we won. Thank you!! I'm waiting for Al and Kim to be officially notified that they won, but what I'd like to do next is get suggestions for what to name their ukulele. Al and Kim say I can do that. I don't know how I'll do that without a dial tone, email, internet, or WiFi, but someone will figure that out by the end of tomorrow. Feeling Black Bear Strong with you!

Listen to the grand prize

Click here for more info on the ukulele

Thank you for showing Al and Kim how much we all appreciate what they did for all of us, especially the bears!

(Editor's note: The ukulele page appears to still be registering votes, but rest assured, the contest is over.  No need to continue voting.)

Thank you for all you do.

2018 Limited Edition

Macassar ebony is one of the premier exotic woods used in high end custom acoustics. Even higher in cost than koa wood but the sound quality is undeniably choice. How so?

Clean and crisp, rich with overtones and singing sustain, and coupled with a cedar top, the tone of this Macassar is absolutely perfect for what many look for. Cedar has a "broken in" quality, or a sweetness in sound that it takes other woods many years to attain. What I notice is that the Macassar adds definition, projection, and reverberating sustain. And that's not to mention the looks.

All woods were not created equal and never has that been more evident. Framing off this exquisite ebony is Hawaiian koa wood binding. This gives contrast but with a warm earthy tone. For the first time in years koa is used with Pono. This accent enhances the overall visual appeal.

This model, like all new Pro Classics from Pono has a radius fingerboard. It's not an extreme radius, and is hardly noticeable until pointed out. But it surely adds to the comfort of play. We must warn you, if you get this instrument, your others may get ignored. It's a treat in every way.

The truss rod advantage. The newer, higher quality Pono case. Many things give value to the newest Pro Classics. Namely, the precision workmanship and skill level of these builders. It also shows a persistence for excellence that Ko'olau has. This one though, this ETSH5, is exceptional! The ultimate Pono! Don't hesitate to add this beauty to your collection.
