Loved your two poems, GG.  Thank you.

You know, some of us have been fortunate to have visited Decorah and we have been able to experience the quiet mornings as day breaks.  Dawn, on a summer day in Decorah, is so special because on most days, you share it with Mom and/or Dad Decorah by the first maple tree (on the right) at the Hatchery entrance.  We actually sang this song in Church today so I did a little googling.  I have always loved this song too.  I found a nice version of it (you'll see why) so I hope you enjoy it!

I loved all of that, Glo.  Thanks!

I am a big fan of Aldo Leopold.  Iowa Public Television will be showing a documentary about him on November 16.  Here is the link for more information:

GG:  This is a beautiful reflection on wind, autumn and the sounds of geese as they make their way across the landscape.  Thank you for passing it along to all of us!

GG, Ditto to what Finn said.  I, too, when I hear geese...first hear that honking in the distance.  I know they're near but can't see them right away and then louder and louder and louder until YES - there they are...flying overhead in their "V" shape...honks now scattered like a chorus, jumping in at different times in a song, and then fading...fading...fading.  Beautiful!

Walton - TY for that link for the documentary on Aldo Leopold.

Sally - my sincere condolences also and glad that poem was a comfort to you.

I want to share something tonight with you all from my heart.  This song/video came to my mind a short while ago and I decided to come here, to this thread.  I came across this video last year, not too long after my 1st trip to Decorah last June.   It's a video created by students from Luther College in Decorah and shows what Decorah means to them.  There are some wonderful landmarks like Whippy Dip, Mabe's Pizza, beautiful Decorah landscapes, waterfalls, Downtown, and some memories for these students of college life.  It's called, "Hey There, Decorah" sung to the tune of "Hey There, Delilah".  Well, as most of you know, us eagleholics have a special affinity to Decorah, don't we? ;)  I was so blessed to have made last year's trip (and this year's too) to Decorah, Iowa.  It all started with 2 eagles in a nest and then there were 5.  Ha!  And I never looked back again.  Each year now just deepens my love for this special place with these special eagles.  Just like the Delilah song, I can now sing...."Oh it's what you do to me...Oh, it's what you do to me...what you do to me....."

Lovely, GG.  I have images of birds flying home too to their homes.  All feeling safe once back and nested in.  This poem gave me a feeling of safety and warmth.  Sometimes you just walk in the door and think, "It's good to be home". Thanks

Walton, that was awesome.  To think that our Earth is such a tiny part of the universe, and still so much has happened here - so many people have lived there lives here.  It sure does make one stop and think.

GG, another great selection from you.  You sure do know how to pick them!
