Oh, thank you for the Robert Frost!  We have been lucky enough to twice visit the Frost home in Shaftsbury, Vermont.  One of the poems posted there is this one, which Robert Frost is said to have composed after the death of his wife.  It always gets me...

Traces

by Robert Frost

These woods have been loved in and wept in.
It's not supposed to be known
That of two who came here loving
But one comes weeping alone.

Good morning Finn and everyone.  Borland's poem is beautiful! I love how he writes and what he says. I finally got Book of Days this past Christmas because you mentioned it and quoted it, back in 2011, I think.  My goodness that man had knowledge of everything, it seems. I have loved reading it every single day since January 1 and will be sad when the year of reading is over.  I treat myself to it every night and often have to use lots of self control to not read ahead!  I may have to get one of his other books, or reread this one! Any recommendations.

Nan:  just about anything Borland wrote works for me--I'm a big fan.  But one of my favorites is Twelve Moons of the Year.  I'm attaching a list of all his works so you can browse away--you can often find his books at used book stores or there seem to be some inexpensive copies available on line:  http://naturewriting.com/hal.htm
Have saved your recommendation, Finn.  Thanks so much.  When I get a chance to pop in here, I really like this thread.  Thanks everyone for your thoughtful contributions.

Ever watch the move "The Shawshank Redemption"?  It has a great line in it - "Remember, hope is a good thing - maybe the best of things. Good things never die""   Now how true is that?

GG, what a beautiful poem.  Fall is my favorite time of the year.

And the quote - that is so true!

This isn't a poem, no eagles, wildlife. It shows the beauty of some of our young people.

Dobe - Love to read articles like yours. Thanks for sharing this.

gg - absolutely beautiful poem and quote to start off our Autumn.  Thank you.  I, for some reason, immediately thought of this movie and theme song while reading your poem.  I've always loved this song and the loons....sit back, relax, and enjoy this.  I hope you've seen the movie too.

Great choices, GG.  I don't recall hearing Jackie K. was a fan of poetry.  The poem she wrote sure makes it sound like she was yearning for simpler times.
