OK, so I didn't do much thinking that I wanted to share last year.   :o

Thanks to Pagent, I have something to pass on to you.

As most of you know, I have a very soft spot in my heart for Australia.  This is their brush fire season.  This year it's Victoria that's doing it tough.  Koalas are especially hard hit by fires.  Once they recognize the danger, they are so slow moving many die.  The "lucky" ones get out with badly burned feet.  The koala rehabbers put out a plea each year for mittens to keep the bandages clean and burn ointment on their paws.  http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-01-08/paw-protectors-needed-for-koalas-injured-in-sa-victorian-fires/6007038  Not many of us live near Plympton, dropping off mittens isn't an option.

Since not many of us outside Australia keep koalas as pets (let's face it.  Eucalyptus trees are hard to grow in most places in the US), this pattern http://www.ifaw.org/sites/default/files/default/KOALA-MITTENS-PATTERN-A4.pdf might work for dogs and cats with injured paws.  Your local Animal Shelter might like some.  Check with them first; they may do the baby socks and Vetwrap covering.

Let me translate some of the verbiage.
A4 sized paper -- 8.3 inches x 11.7 inches, close to the US 8.5x11 standard sized sheet.
150mm=5.9 inches
125mm=4.9 inches

Next up!  Patterns for joey pouches!  Care and feeding of drop bears!

What a nice idea, TW, stemming from the poor demise of Koalas in Austrlia fires.  I'm sure Veterinarian hospitals across the U.S. would love to have dog & cat mittens too.  Here's hoping Australia gets a good response for theirs.

I saw a piece on Australia's brush fires in the news.  How very sad.  Those koalas do need mittens and care.

I saw that on the NBC national news last night, TW.  So sad for all in the way of those awful fires.  They showed a video of one of the koalas rescued from that fire area in Victoria.  They were treating the burns on its paws.  The koalas cling to branches in trees to get up off the ground.  That piece talked about those knitted mittens and the info on the special pattern needed for them.  Thanks for posting!

This picture is probably from Dutch Harbor, AK, but there was no attribution.

Note the different ages hanging out together.

Lest we forget.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
