There are days you are just weary to your bones.

Since it seems the entire US has had a cold snap this past week, the thought came to mind.  Why does my nose run when it's cold?

According to a NPR interview here http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=99844567 it's because of biology and physics.  When we breathe in, our noses condition the air so our lungs don't get shocked by too cold and/or too dry air.  Since cold air is often dry air, our noses produce moisture (sometimes too much) to help those precious petals, our lungs, get what they need.  I suppose I ought to be grateful as lungs keep me alive.

On the other hand, when we exhale, the water molecules hit the cold air and condense.

We get runny noses going and coming.  I have found surgically taping a Kleenex to my upper lip works quite well.

LOL, TW, I want a photo of you with the Kleenex surgically taped to your upper lip!  Seriously, I'm glad you researched that topic.  I have often wondered the same thing and now I know!

Gosh, thanks TW.  Funny how we all experience things so many times yet never really thought about HOW it happens. :)

Faith, there is a right way and wrong way to do the Kleenex on your upper lip.  First you need to know how wide your upper lip in order to be able to fold the Kleenex appropriately.  In the beginning add 1 inch to the width; on subsequent applications, you can reduce this.  The really hard part, but one you learn quickly is apply the tape vertically on either side of the Kleenex.  Horizontal application of tape only causes runoff.

nnaigroeg, fluffies can be minimized by checking the thread count on the Kleenex.  Under no circumstances should you substitute paper towels.  They only cause sneezing fits from the fluffies they put out.

I'm willing to acknowledge it's Christmas.  Here's some music to get you in the mood.

An ear wig for your entertainment.  I dare you not to sing it for 15 minutes straight.

As soon as I hear the next one, I declare all preparations over and hit the egg nog.

I've been known to like cheesy music.

Luther College in Decorah does a huge Christmas concert.  This year it was shown on PBS.

Here's the link to watch it online.  http://video.pbs.org/video/2317909502/  Be prepared to sing along on some of the songs.  Since you are at home, you don't have to worry about being on key!

I just read they've finished a draft of the new Star Wars script.  So to honour the Disney incarnation before they have a chance to mess it up and disappoint me like Episode 1-3 did, I offer you a chance to find out which Star Wars character you are.

Yesterday I was Queen Amidala.  Today I'm Boba Fett.  Go figure.
