Oh, nope, KB. I may fish by the seat of my pants, but due to modern technology I am weather aware days ahead. There is always the off chance of a sudden occurrence but I keep an eye on the sky when I'm out. Over 50 years there have been a few times I rode me some big waves heading in though.  8)

Lisa.... We won't need to use the dishwasher (!) but we are having fun with the (newfangled) fridge ice cube dispenser... Two sizes!!! Lol

Hi All, Aly and Dewey arrived home unexpectedly. Mike just returned from the airport with them.
She signed up for a last minute conference in Phoenix and will be with us for a week or so. There may be changes
for her too.

I'll catch up tomorrow. Till then sleep well everyone and see you in the morning.

Good night!

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, wow, you get more time with Aly and Dewey! What a blessing! The rain has started here, supposed to rain most of the day, 1-2". Hoping you and Mike and Ali have a good day! The Northern Lights from Finland are beautiful!

tsk, you might get some of this rain later this afternoon, if it doesn't shift upwards. I think some people don't realize that most of Canada is a wilderness and how impossible it would be to try to put those fires out. Our house stays cool for quite a while after the temp rises, if I don't have a lot of windows open!

BL, thanks for the perspective on the fires in Canada, which is about twice the size of the US.  And most of the population is in the far south, close to the US. I am sure, like us, they would fight the fires threatening any of their towns. The fires are Mother Nature responding to the state of the earth. More drought, more fires. Thank you for clarifying!

Big Bear - love this picture!

Reactive vs. Proactive: Much of Canada’s approach is reactive, focusing on suppression rather than prevention. Proactive measures like widespread prescribed burns or landscape-level fuel management are underfunded and politically contentious.

Prescribed Burns: Canada uses controlled burns to reduce fuel loads, but their application is limited due to public resistance, safety concerns, and narrow weather windows for safe burning.
Forest Management: Thinning forests and removing deadwood are practiced in some areas, but the vast size of Canada’s forests makes widespread implementation costly and logistically challenging.

I'm not dumb. I know how large Canada is and the extent of their forests.

However, I'm also aware of the following and that tens and tens of Minnesotans are rightfully upset that the air is this unhealthy year after year. And, I need my Vitamin D!..we only have 3 months of summer here.

today even though heavy rain our Air Quality is now in the very unhealthful range.

So here is additional information.. Not to deny reality but still...

Off to the dentist.

Urban-Wildland Interface: Expanding communities near forests increase ignition risks from human activities (e.g., campfires, equipment sparks). About 10% of fires are human-caused, though they often burn near populated areas, causing disproportionate damage.
Historical Fire Suppression: Suppressing smaller fires for decades has disrupted natural fire cycles, leading to denser forests with more fuel. This makes fires harder to control when they do ignite.

Boreal Forest Vulnerability: Canada’s vast boreal forests, dominated by conifers like spruce and pine, are highly flammable due to resinous needles and dense undergrowth. Decades of fire suppression have allowed dead wood and organic matter to accumulate, increasing fuel loads.

Most of Canada's entire population of around 40 million live on the East and West Coasts..

Good Morning Beakers

BL - Natures Miracle?  Like the pet brand? My litter box is made by Natures Miracle. Thanks for the tunes.

tsk - You must have had lower humidity, cause 84° here, Jeff would have been dying, and screaming to turn on the AC.  It's 69° now and still cool.  Waiting to see how warm it gets before turning on the AC today.

tig;D ;D

Lani - Beautiful pics of the Northern Light in Finland!  What a nice surprise to have Aly & Dewey back for a lil while.  I bet you are happy.  :)

clynn - LOVE all your pics this morning, especially the tree!!

Phyl - A bird morning for you, and so colorful.  Thanks for the 365.

Puff, kb, karen, oldguy, and all
- Morning  :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Lani's Shannon!!

Phyl, love those Regal Birds! Early morning 365, sounds peaceful.

Lisa, 70 here and raining... I had the A/C on yesterday, it was 86 or so and humid.

BL, your words on the fires in Canada, coming from a person who knows quite a bit about fires, thank you. Oh, I found this article that explains another source of the fires:   https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20240528-why-canada-is-riddled-with-wildfires-that-burn-year-round

kb, thank you for sharing your perspective! I am sincerely sorry that the smoke is so bad when the wind blows it your way.  I know that doesn't help and I also never meant to insinuate that you were dumb.    https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/240126/dq240126b-eng.htm

We set a record high AQI this morning of 264 per meteorologist Paul Douglas.

Still stinks to high heaven...even with the house shut up.

This is our now minimum 6th summer of this...extremely frustrating.

PHYL   Cute AM birdies  ;D

LISA  It's 85 here now after a quick shower but the house is closed and I have a sweatshirt on inside  LOL

CLYNN   Canada now in third year of drought   :o :o   That's really a rare shot of all 5 giants visible all at the same time.

A trip to the Urgent care clinic again today.  Tim fell this AM watering his garden when he moved backwards and lost balance.  I did not witness this one and only knew when he called for me while standing on the patio bleeding from his left cheek.  This was at 9:45.  We tried to stop it until 12:15 when we agreed to go to the clinic.  You get right in when they see blood dripping from your paper towel  LOL
Got home at 3:15. Tried 3 different means to stop it and the third was using silver nitrate which so far is working.  SIGH

tsk - Oh no, poor Tim!  Glad that the silver nitrate has helped stop the bleeding. My thermostat inside said 76, and it feels ok in here, but its 80 outside and Jeff says....turn on the air  ::)

clynn - Did you get thunderstorms today?  Congrats to Dunrovin and their 4 eggs. Wow, great pic of the 5 giants.
