Lisa, I haven't heard any thunder but it's been raining all day, kind of softly. They were predicting maybe 2".  TWC says it's 59 right now. The rain should be done by 6 or 7ish. Everyone is lazy around here today, even the kitties! Ed is not feeling well, it's the thing he gets about every 3 months or so. Because he doesn't eat right, smokes too much and doesn't move around enough. And the pain meds he can't live without. His pain tolerance level is nil.  ::)

tsk, oh no, Tim! He needs to borrow tig's bubblewrap outfit! Yes, the drought in Canada sure doesn't help with the wildfires. I wonder if the California wildfires bother the people in Mexico...

I tried to get a picture of the Wells Fargo Ospreys but not possible in the rain, the camera isn't that great, kind of like 2011 at Decorah but farther away. I did see the back half of a fish in the nest, and it looked like both parents were there!

SOAR - Saving Our Avian Resources ~ Osprey Y8 ~
2 June 2025 was a "happy dance" day for all - including the original caretaker of Y8 (and the other Osprey hacked at Elk Rock State Park), SOAR friend Marla, Kay Neumann, and Jenni, the executive director of Iowa Bird Rehabilitation.
Y8 was released at Walnut Woods State Park, West Des Moines, Iowa, which is very near the cell tower where her nest has been. Ground observers scouted the location ahead of time and confirmed that there was still one Osprey in the area and no active nest. All involved are hoping the one Osprey is Y8's mate.

Ckynn, good to read about the Osprey release and I hope he finds the meat. What is success story that would be good that you had some rain as he or Iowa corn will be juicier as a result we’ve had wind today and cooler temperatures somehow, perhaps it’s just the feeling of the wind but I think it’s supposed to rain toward the end of the week. I still have the sprinkler system going because of the grass seed that spread around. I’m going to have to order some more and I have several spots where nothing is growing at all. Guess that’s not a big deal. My neighbor priced sod for her yard after her trees were removed. It was given a quote of $20,000.
Tsk I’m sorry to hear about Tim’s tumble, but do tell him he hast to stop the bleeding issue. What supplies are usually very scarce during the summertime so we don’t want to have him needing a transfusion for a guy trying to do what he really wants to do with that card. I hope things are going to grow. I have five tomatoes on my plant which is half dead and sprawling all over the table. This will be my last attempt of growing tomatoes.
Lani, I’m very happy to hear that you have time I’ll be at an expected with Al. And sweet Dewey. Enjoy and post when you have time
Good post this morning, Phyl!
I’ll sign off now while Piper and I have a coffee before our evening walk about
Happy birthday, Shannon
Lisa, keep that air on for the cat man in your life,  lolol

Good Morning Beakers!

Phyl, love the morning picture! Reminds me of Mary Engelbreit art! Good, close look at the dragonfly, another wonder of creation. How are your knees doing, and how is Jim?

Lori, love the cake for Shannon! Hoping some day you will visit us more often in the Beak Room, we miss you!

Lani, congrats to Shannon on her new title! She must be very good at her job! I am sure you have been busy with Aly and Dewey. Can you get a picture of Sadie and Dewey at the dog park? How is Mike doing, any travel coming up? Calm and peaceful good night picture, I hope all is calm and peaceful for you...

karen, oh my, I didn't realize sod was that expensive!  Laughing, trying to picture your forlorn tomato plant...

Who would have thought...
Arizona Department of Transportation

Cactus relocation involves removing healthy cactuses and preserving them while roadwork is being done, then replanting them in the same area when the work is complete. ADOT has been doing this for decades as part of our ongoing work to preserve native desert plants close to highways and construction sites.
There have been many cactus relocation projects over the past 30 years. Here's the typical process:

First, a survey is conducted to assess the health and size of the cactuses currently in and around the construction area. Each species is tagged, documented and photographed, then carefully dug out and relocated to a safe area either on-site or in a temporary plant salvage yard for the duration of the project.
Cactuses are cared for in the salvage yard, receiving routine inspections and watered appropriately. Large Saguaros are supported and younger Saguaros are covered with shade cloth since young cactus typically grow in the shade of desert trees.

When the highway project nears completion, the cactuses are replanted, and crews continue to observe and care for them during a period of 1-2 years. Some of the types of cactuses salvaged include Saguaros, Barrel Cactus, Pincushion, Hedgehog, Soaptree Yucca, Agave and Ocotillo.
More recent ADOT cactus relocation projects have taken place along Loop 303 in the West Valley, Loop 101 in Scottsdale and the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway, the latter of which included more than 1,000 saguaro cactuses, palo verde trees and other native plants.

Currently, the I-17 Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point has an active cactus relocation effort.

Well we are getting some rain this AM.  Pretty dreary.  66 degrees.

CLYNN   Our men  ::) ::) ::)   That SOAR osprey release was near you  ;D  Today the kiddos come  ;D  I am so into color - Love the AM greeting.  Holy Smokes - who ever knew about cactus relocation.  Wonder how deep their roots go? esp Saguaros

KAREN   $20,000 for sod?????  Seems like a lot.   If you want grass to grow fast order some "contractor seed"  This is what we just did and Sunday I redid most of our bare patches.  It should be up in a week.  We shall see.

LANI   Good for Shannon getting that nice promotion.  She's also doing real-estate, right?

PHYL  Bright welcome for our Wednesday.  :)  Close-ups of dragonfly - beautiful. 365

BrokenLug - What kind of outdoor spray to you use for bugs?

None really as I've never really trusted the chemical make up of it at all.

40 years out.

Natures Miracle saved our butts 1 time Pip said

BL - Natures Miracle?  Like the pet brand? My litter box is made by Natures Miracle. Thanks for the tunes.

LisaG, Total brain fart, I meant to say Skin So Soft made by Avon I believe .. I was close aye'. :-[ LOL.
It does offer a little protection from mosquitos.

Natures Miracle is this stuff we use to de-skunk juice the critters:
https://www.naturesmiracle.com/products/other-messes/skunk-odor-remover
This stuff works great BTW if you use it right away if a pet gets sprayed by a skunk.
Keep a bottle handy at home for the critters.

June is...Adopt-A-Cat Month

https://www.americanhumane.org/blog/adopt-a-cat-month/

American Humane celebrates Adopt-A-Cat Month® each June – a month that also marks the height of “kitten season,” when large litters of kittens are born and often end up in animal shelters.

More than ever, they need our help. Not only are thousands of newborn kittens joining the millions of cats already in shelters, but a lack of foot traffic, funding and supplies at many shelters struggling to maintain operations during the COVID-19 pandemic further threaten these beautiful animals and their hopes to find a forever home.

To help, American Humane is devoting the 47th annual “Adopt-a-Cat Month®” to encouraging animal lovers to visit their local animal shelter and adopt a cat – or two, and learn more about the joys (and responsibilities) of adding a cat to their families.

Level Up Your Pet

Sloth TV  :)

Baby Zen needs to be careful who he picks a fight with next time. Thankfully big nursery bro Malibu is patient with him.
Baby Zen may be the smallest of all the babies, but he is the feistiest of them all in the nursery porch💓😊😍

This is my 2nd post in the Beak this morning. The first one disappeared.... gremlins again.
I posted the above Sloth pics on the sloth thread and I saw my Beak Room post wasn't posted.
So, thankfully, I used my sloth pics and posted again.

We have another busy day with family, I'll be back tonight to repost what I wrote earlier.
Have a lovely day everyone, be safe and take care.  ;D

Bounce

Gentle hugs to all...

I just had to watch tennis at 4 a.m. I was on the lake by 9, but no fish. But... The adult BE overflew me. I also saw a pair of blue heron fly from shore. And. A. Huge. Turtle. BTW.... I'm getting the hang of getting the pontoon off the dock and through the shallow narrows. This morning I let loose the lines, walked the boat halfway back, then set my rollator onboard and followed. I now know just how far to trim the motor and avoid the hazards. Fun stuff.
Now, I rest and hydrate, while Camper hunts wildlife with his long glass.
