Not so known news is that Macy's in Phily has closed for good this past weekend.  Finial song played on the Wanamaker Organ by Peter Conte on Sunday.  A crowd estimated at 10,000 in attendance.

Oldguy and Camperstig you're our kind of adventure type peeps.   8) 8) 8)
baziunc you're going to have to brush up on your De Havilland Beaver Seaplane skills cause some Bakers are wanting to board and drop in on Isle Royale.   :-*
No worries Baz. It all being picked up by, by, ah, um some not yet gutted government science research grant. All of the flight training, plane, supplies, lodging, fuel, permits and such, done. Don't worry about it Joey.

After all, we scientific minded folks are very concerned about that turtle.
baziunc this very huge lake is kinda like landing on a paved runway.
Well not at all really, not on this lake due to the weather however.

It's just a little bit mushier
Yeah sure it might be undulating slightly like a wave a little bit from the north at 1 to 2 foot
LOL

BL - all the maps are available here...  Map name of Todd Harbor
https://apps.nationalmap.gov/downloader/#/maps

That was my only backpacking trek because of my feet - moved on to car camping, with 2 week treks to cooler climates in the summer - Canada, Rockies, Great Lakes, even a train trip from Sault St. Marie to Moosenee and Moose Factory Island.

BL...
So... A couple of us walked to a pond after arrival at the harbor up island. " Don't get any important parts in the water.... organisms..." Hair washed and heading back down the trail, Tig says " these Fall foliage are so brilliant!!" Back at the boat the mirror confirmed one dilated pupil. Prolly rubbed my eye after removing my transdermal patch. Oops.
On our final night sailing back to home harbor, a research vessel passed between our boats, towing a mile long cable with sounding buoy. There was some confusion at first as we kept hearing a strange sound below deck. Phew.

Ok

Tig I hear your pings.

Leaches and various water pond cooties we humans don't belong in some times water bodies happen.

BUT we dive in anyway. You know why, because we can.  8)

All I remember about Isle Royale is the wolf stories....During some winters they can cross between the mainland and Isle Royale. However, there has been in breeding when the water is open some winters.

Gee, I can't remember much of the rest except maybe a rescue drop has been made to try and recover the pack to more diversity?

You all see any wolves?

Are there wolves on the island in 2025?...guess I'll have to check with Grok...LOL

Quite the distance on a sailboat tig!....I've only sailed once off the coast of Santa Monica on a large sailboat, that's it. How many miles was that hike oldguy?..

I've never really gotten the phobia of wolves, bears and such taking of humans by the land mammals of North America.

Total Bunk.

You stink like human stuff to them and they don't want anything to do with you.

They want nothing to do with you.

You walk into their Living Room there will be words.

I've lost a few body pieces.

I F'd up.

I had no intention of displaying anything of what you speak. I was actually hoping there are more of them. I spoke of the issue of incestuous breeding due to not being able to go back and forth across the ice. Wondering if the DNR helped or not.

I'm not afraid of any of the animals you list. No phobias by me if that's who you are speaking to.

In the twin cities this issue has been discussed often....here is just one of the examples.

Last I heard their efforts were not that successful....the above article is more hopeful

My lips kissed Bart the bear once.

Wholly shit this mammal is so huge.

My head popping now .

Peanut Butter off of my tongue to his.

Take my head off like a dandelion with a claw flick type critter.

Bart I purred together with a bear hug.

Clynn, We're looking forward to seeing Aly in May. She's going to try to ride out the changes in the Oregon Medicare system and stay in Medford for this year... So far that's her plan... the Hellgate cam is back on the nest tonight, very clear and wide look of nest. You can see the road traffic in the background... The Munchkins would like the soap craft. I might even try it. LOL!  ;D... that's interesting about the island in Lake Superior.

Tsk, Aly isn't moving back. She's going to try to ride out the Oregon Medicare situation this year... that is a terrible story about the gal microwaving a bar of soap.

{{{Baz}}} I'm laughing about your post  on the "Potoo"  ;D...I felt the same...  never was a critter so talked about by people so many thousand miles away!  ;D ... Well, just watched AZ lose to Duke  :( ... another Big 12 team went down tonight, along with BYU.. Big 12 Texas Tech and Arkansas are tied and going into overtime.
Chuck-will's-widow is an interesting name. I can see the resemblance with the other birds in your article. You have so many interesting critters in your bog.

Kb, interesting info on wolves and wildlife.  :)

BL, thanks for info on Lake Superior Islands.... the stories you tell...  I'm going to be thinking about you, peanut butter and Bart the Bear!

{{{Tig}}} So glad you had a good night's sleep and you were able to enjoy the pool again.... you have a wonderful P.T. doctor checking up on you and even willing to help with pool exercises... many fond memories and adventures, thanks for sharing your story.

Lisa, sad for the Decorah North eagles and our SWFL eagle family.  :'( ... And then we're filled with joy for the Sauces Eagles and their one eaglet after a three or four unsuccessful years.

Oldguy, very interesting video of the White throated Sparrow and change in the songs... our cat Milo is laying in his basket by my computer. He just lifted his head and is looking for the bird.... what a hiking trip.. sorry about your feet... I go through three pairs of walking shoes a year...

Good night!
