baz It had me wondering about language used - cussing - and whether or not it's treated just like any other word.  Did it ever come up?  I'm not saying you might be a sailor.   Does the language get auto censored?  ;D

Speaking about me and the door tsk and the weather and the windf car . . .  They all three came into play when I finished grocery shopping and went to get body back behind the wheel.  I have talked about big heavy door.  It got really undoable with the 50 mph wind blowing it open from behind rear of car.  Impossible!!!  Finally someone stopped to ask if I needed help.  "Yes, when I get seated and have the belt on, would you help closing the door from the outside."  I never used that phrase ever before in my many years.  Of course I accepted the offer.

tig you hit the jackpot on free knee surgery info.  I'm thinking at least 10 here have first person facts and new parts.  Full information office on knees and eye/cataract surgery and rehab.

I'll be busy the next couple days so I won't hog the forum - tomorrow some Irish soda bread, more on Sunday.  Have spoiled a few people, they've already asked.  Monday the corned beef and brussel sprouts.  What?  I don't like slimy cabbage.

Thanx SSRL ! I'm scared and don't want to go through this, but I know the outcome will be much better if I am engaged. Sigh.

SSRL   Good support for TIG.  :-*

Short Irish story.  My original cardiologist  Jim Moran, sound Irish?  Somehow the discussion came up about Irish and Irish soda bread.  He wanted to know how I made mine.  After I put the list out he said "You don't make Irish soda bread, you make American Irish soda bread.  My wife makes it the same way you do and she's Italian."

A lot of "discussions" about Irish anything in the area of Chicago.  I do believe we have the largest majority of Irish in the USA.  There are so many that they divided among themselves into Northside Irish and Southside Irish.  And never shall they meld.   LOLOLOL  They even have separate parades.

The only country I've been certified advisor from is Ireland-certified-specialist.  I have been there a few times.  Great to visit!  Just don't eat their native recipe soda bread.  Yuck.  When I travel I experiment on foods and such - just not on Irish bread.

And do try new ideas as they're offered.  I don't drink beer - but I've had both Guinness and Smithwick's (Smithwick's like our Pabst image).  I have had both while there, learning the area, of course - it's my job.  I've had Smithwick's with blood potatoes for breakfast.  BTW Guinness' biggest production and market is in Africa????  NOW What I really will enjoy this weekend is the Bailey's I have Sunday and Monday!!!!  And when you do make it to Ireland make sure you order some and even buy some to bring back to the USA.  The product sold here is "toyed" with, pasteurized, and all those things the latest news is telling  us about in food we buy here.   Has to clear customs - changes it.  Really yummy if you get the real thing.  Whenever a client offers to bring me something back - I always let it be known.

OK that's my short story - sorry it took so long.   :o

PUFF  You have a wealth of good stories.  I enjoy hearing them.  ;D    I looked up a " Genuine from Ireland" recipe for soda bread.  The ingredients didn't seem any different?  Why do you think you don't like it?

tsk - I wonder if it isn't something like the difference between American wheat and European wheat. People allergic/sensitive to wheat can eat European wheat but can't American. Agricultural practices and much more gluten in ours.
European food unless it's imported from America has far fewer chemicals/issues than ours does.
Watched a whole program about it by an evolutionary biologist.

But, Puff can chime in.

OK? Why? What?   I've never seen or used the "other" recipe so can't compare ingredients.  I have had it, it's dry and tasteless.  From their comments - they defend the bread because it isn't the bread - it's what you're dunking it in or what it is that is being put into a sandwich - that's the main purpose?

Mine/ours/the good one has flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar.  That is then combined/mixed in with butter, eggs, buttermilk, raisins, caraway seeds.

That is great in the morning with my tea (Irish breakfast tea of course), warmed.  I've already been sipping my Irish tea, Sunday morning will be splendid - I'll have both together.  Sunday night it's time for the Bailey's - worried about opening the bottle with one hand.  I know. . . .when I deliver their breads I'll ask one of them to stop by and open my bottle.    ;)

Got my version of recipe from another travel advisor, Barbara - northside agent - who worked at an agency up north.  It is labeled Uncle Marvin's Irish Soda Bread (giving credit where credit is due).  He was born, raised on the Emerald Isle.  I have to admit it was sometimes hard to know what he was saying with the brough accent, but was written down when they gave it to me.

We had some winds in the Iowa City area approaching 25mph before the very light rain started and then the winds stopped.  Severe wind Reports to the north of Cedar Rapids and to the east near Davenport - most of them prior to the rain.  MO has all of the big storms tonight, it think that is reducing the severity of the storms in IA

Tsk, very smart to put yellow tape on Barb's last step... I did the same thing to our next door neighbor's steps to their lower level when I took care of their pets. They have pine floors throughout the house, including down the steps.. no carpet on the steps, and the grain of the steps matched perfectly when going down the stairs. You couldn't tell where the steps were. I fell twice.. so I taped the steps... I think the new owners have a runner on the steps.

I don't get Pi Day and never have... reminds me of Willi, she never liked it either.  ???

{{{Baz}}} I am so sorry about the game  :(

{{{Tig}}}, that's good news about your insurance...

ssrl, Good to see you and great support for Tig

Oldguy, thanks for Kilauea update.... interesting info on cats... I'll have to check out blue and yellow toys.

{{{Puff}}} Love your stories.... I'll look for soda bread tomorrow...

Kb, Amen

Prayers for all in harm's way of the storms  🙏

Good night!

Good Morning Beakers! CATURDAY!!!

Lani, LOLOL, I remember willi not liking Pi Day...  We all have to watch those steps these days! No falling needed!!  Do you still have snow on the ground? It got to 79 here yesterday, the storm that went through was not much. The birds were really singing, the cats spent a lot of time on the deck! Beautiful moon pic! Wow!

oldguy, after the storm/tornado siren went off 3 times the storm passed through without incident, or even much rain. The wind whipped up for a few minutes.

puff, found this about wheat flower:  https://foodisinthehouse.com/the-truth-behind-wheat-why-bread-in-the-u-s-isnt-the-same-as-europe/  and this one about the Irish in the US.  https://www.rismedia.com/2022/03/17/most-irish-cities-in-america/

kb, the stranded astronauts on being stranded: https://www.livescience.com/space/space-exploration/we-dont-feel-stranded-astronauts-stuck-in-space-set-the-record-straight

BL, the big storm was a dawdle here...

tsk, wonder if your store imports flour from Europe to make their soda bread?  You can buy it online.  I remember when we lived off-base i England, Mom would send Cathy and I off on our bikes to get bread at the bakery in our little town Walsingham. She would give me the farthing (1/4 of a penny) to get a loaf of fresh baked bread. It's now a B&B!     https://www.justinharmer.com/the-old-bakehouse

Big Bear Eagles - the snow should be melting today. No sign of the 3rd chick, but these 2 are getting lots of foo!
