Nov. 2- HIGHLIGHTS - why?

Fall colors are coming to an end at GSB.  Cameras live, but the weather forcast box has been off for a week.  DNN has  a new look for the forcast, and Decorah and the Flyway forcasts are also off.  I 'spect they will all have the new look soon.

Count the bald eagles in the trees across from the nest box about 10:00 this morning!

Barge headed downriver from the locks at 2:15 this afternoon.

Nov 7 I saw a large barge headin upstream.
They're movin ahead of river freeze

Looks like migrating swans have arrived in the GSB area.

Busy barges before the river freezes over

Trains and barges provide interesting watching at GSB while the peregrines are elsewhere.

At these temps in the teens, the river edges will freeze over soon.  About 10:00 several eagles were standing on ice watching the water birds.

Cam ops might have found an eagle nest in tree tops on the island across from the peregrine nest box. Anyone know if it is active?

Several dark mounds on the ground and in shallow water, might be muskrat homes (lodges).

About noon, a gang of a dozen or more eagles were on the ice watching a nearby large flock of ducks in open water. Go to rewind to watch all of them suddenly take to the air.

Frigid temps are freezing the river.  Before dawn a couple large boats went upriver, opening the channel as they passed by the GSB camera range.  About 9:00, another, maybe a small barge, headed north.  Very interesting.

Ah, ice. Barge season over.
