This morning, the ropes are still in place after yesterday's work at the nest box.  More to be done here probably.

Bright red barge headed upriver about 1:30 this afternoon, and the RRP ropes are still in place.  Watching the rewind around 3:00, there's someone moving in the trees at the top of the bluff, looks like retrieving the ropes.  Watch the blog or Home screen for  explanation soon.

Apparently there's more work to be done at the GSB nest box and bluff area because the ropes are back this morning, or still there from yesterday.

I dont think RRP has cleaned out the nest box yet - its just filthy

This morning, the ropes appear to be gone from the nest box/bluff.  Distant view of Newman on the box perch.  Too far to see if the box has been cleaned out, but I'm guessing Yes.

Looks like the nest box has been cleaned, in closeup.  Newman was checking it out, too.  Also, some of the brush has been cleared on top of the bluff area.

Two views of Newman at the nest box perch this morning.  I'm guessing that the most recent banded female, (U/09) has already left the area for the winter.  Also need to check the date from last year that Newman migrated south.

Here is a pic from October 8, 2023 of Newman on the same perch as this morning. I think that is the last date I saw him on camera.   So he could depart any day now.  Or not.

The RRP home page announces that cameras will go live at Decorah and Decorah North on October 11 at 10AM.  Yippee!

Meanwhile, camera is live here at GSB.  The same announcement mentions that the banded female peregrine, U/09 is also named Elaine, and she comes from South Bend, Indiana.  That's new info for me and South Bend is the city I grew up in!

One pic of Newman on his favorite dead branch perch.  Then views from a new camera, or last season's new camera.  Anyhow, it shows the other side of things like Newman's favorite dead branch perch, the large feeding ledge, and the view upriver (north of the nest box).  Very cool.
