Those critters will make themselves known and settle in Phyl.  I knew I had some hatching (?) because I saw the remainder carcasses stuck to screen and bark of trees.  But   those purtruding ugly eyes - YUCK.  Only a mother could love, or another cicada.  Once I got back into the garden I also found hundreds   :o  of holes in the ground where they emerged up through the dirt.

P

The gardening professionals have said those holes in the ground left by the emerging cicadas are great for the trees! It's like getting free aeration of the soil under and around those trees! They are advantageous for the tree roots, allowing for water to get in the soil better, too. Some people think the cicadas are ugly, and I get that, but I think they're really kind of pretty with their bright green and red colors. They do not damage anything and don't bite or sting, and they don't live very long - only a few days... it's just that there are so many of them. LOL. So it takes a while for the whole brood to emerge and do its matin thing, and then they die after mating and laying their eggs. They feed a lot of animals, like birds, snakes, and anything other critters - ducks, geese, etc., that will grab them and eat them - they provide much needed protein and calories for hungry springtime critters and are good for the environment in many ways. If only they could whisper!!  LOL!!  ;D

Those Iowa storms again heading this way.  Wonder if this time my backyard will see rain... :-\

BAZI   EAGLES Mom has PT and Ed just finished..LOL

KAREN   WOW  Good luck at the DMV.

EAGLES   Having an advocate for the elderly at doc appts is a great idea esp if memory is an issue...

LANI   So scary  - at least for me - when Tim falls so can imagine in the "middle of the night" that happening and then you go right at fixing the chair.  :o  Hope Mike manages OK today and happy to hear no travel at least for a week. (((Mike)))   I think I'll take the cicadas.   ;D ;D

PHYL  Love the black-eyed susans  :D   Pink sunflowers - I've never seen.

TSK, sorry, I mis-remember what I had read in catching up on all the posts... it was Ed, not Tim.  ;)

((Clynn)), hope the chiropractor helped you a lot today! Hugs!Sorry I mis-remembered that it was Ed who was better after PT (not TSK's Tim). Hope Ed is still doing well after returning to work. I hope Erin and Sydney didn't get any water damage from the powerless sump pump before he got it hooked up to his truck. I wonder if their power is back on yet... fingers crossed! I'm posting as I read, so you may already have posted an update about that. Anyway, as TSK said they did, my little sis (grandmother to all my little "greats") and her husband had a sump pump in their home's full and partially-finished and furnished basement, and after it flooded twice from loss of power from major storms, they put in a battery backup, which they always checked to be sure it kicked in when they lost power. They never flooded again after that. A generator is nice to have, but some people can't fit that into their  budgets, so the battery backup is a nice option for a sump pump.

KAREN  Congratulations.  No written or drivers tests?  Funny about motorcycle renewal  LOL

PUFF  Amazing you were the only ones residing east of the Miss. R. out of that huge family. :o   What a sweet story about Aunt Lydia and the ring.  :-*

BAZI   " if only they could whisper"   ;D ;D  So correct about the battery backup.  We didn't get the generator for years later when we were spending the time in Door county.   Also part of the decision was a terrible storm that took out neighborhoods of electricity, ours included.  We were 5 DAYS without power and lost both frigs despite trying to keep food cool in coolers and not realizing we would have needed dry ice!

Highly recommend "Sight"  It will probably stream in a month or two.

TGIF, and STAY SAFE, ALL!!  :)

A big thunderstorm is on my doorstep, and so I am going to power down and unplug. Golf ball sized hail to the north of me... hope it doesn't come to my parking space!! So I will need to come back over the weekend to post the things I was hoping to post now.

Everyone please stay safe, and I hope Erin and others who lost power have it back now!

I have pics I wanted to post from the "last day of kindergarten" party in my Littlest Greatniece's backyard yesterday - with all her 5K classmates, and Baby Bro, of course!. The had a blow up water slide thing that was great fun, and lots of snacks and water games, popscicles, and other Moms of the kids with pizza, and fruit, and everyone had a fun time. School's OUT for Summer!!   ;D

Oops, that storm just hit... gotta go! (Not severe here, and hope it stays that way!)

Take care, All!  :)

Rest up Lisa!
Baz, storm move out?
Lani, I hope Mike is okay now without too many bumps  and bruises and hurts, other than  perhaps his ego,! Unfortunately, a friend of mind would say, it is all a part of the aging process.  Was years before I knew what she was talking about!

Tsk cute greeting this AM. I loved the sunflower gif today. Me neither---hearing of Oil pink sunflowers   https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=7f161f12ff9fd306&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS832US832&q=oil+pink+sunflowers&tbm=shop&source=lnms&prmd=isvnmbt&ved=1t:200715&ictx=111&biw=1841&bih=919&dpr=1

CLynn what a mess for Erin and everyone, glad the sump pump is working now. Okay...finally got it ---Bucky's a beaver. Tks for the 'mug' shot. :-[
Oh just adore those WHR BB juvies. Now you can see what I can't capture with an i phone! Those cute faces and roly-poly speckled bodies .  :-* :-* :-* :-*

Lani yikes Mike fell---what a struggle for him with that chair.  :(
Oh that 'white' lab frolicking in the water.  :)

OG an abrupt awakening for you both. Tks for keeping us informed. Tks for Maru videos , he's almost as old as my Maggie.  The Moab  video, too---interesting h/s welding.  Glad you and Lori are safe during this weather.

Tig
so you and Camper leave for your lakeside 'vaca' today in the AM. Be safe  and all.

{{{Puff}}} no love loss on my part with  the cicadas; tks for info on the family snap good thing info was written on the back; that vintage jewelry,  even costume,  is worth a small fortune. Esp in Nashville downtown Printers Alley...many 'stars' will pay top dollar for these as they wear them performing.  {{{ Aunt Lydia}}} and her  ring---touching story.

Karen  congrats on the new DL.  ;)  Did you take a good photo?   Pets to Piper.

Tsk  I've seen 'Sight' advertised  . Dr Wang lives and practices here in downtown Nashville ; offices at The  Vision Institute https://wangvisioninstitute.com/
Dr Wang did surgery on Jim's eyes to restore his vision and eliminated the need for glasses.  As I went to Jim's appointment---I met him and chatted with him---he's a wonderful doctor and surgeon. Truly gifted  and world renowned.
I have a snap of Dr Wang and Jim together (me being the photographer) I'll have to hunt ti up and load to PC and upload to Pinterest if I can find it.

Ohyl, did Jim have that  laser surgery!
Clynn, did Erin’s power come back on?  He is probably smart to get a small generator  or one that will run that and part of the house as batteries do not last that long and have to be replaced .  He is a smart man! Hope Ed is doing well!
Going to do a few things and turn in!  Safe travels tig and camper and have a fun time!  Catch some fish!
Tsk, no written test!   Filled out an application on a computer connected to their system!  When I got my first license  in Georgia I turned in my Alabama  one which,  unbeknownst to me  included the motorcycle
Section!  The man
Issuing it knew Alabama did this and laughed and said he was going to include it on my georgia one.  Been there ever since!

Seds, all!

Hello Beakers

It was a cloudy and cool day here after the early morning alarm... hit a high of 74 just before a small shower cooled us off to 66 and stayed under 70 the rest of the afternoon.
The tornado this morning was on the ground from Wellman to Frytown which is about 8 miles - rated as EF1 - winds of 100 mph recorded at Wellman.  A total of 4 tornados from that storm - to the south and east of Iowa City.

Puff- The Cicadas look scary! :o ::)   Just read what you said about how Ton was the only one allowed in the room when he had a Doctor appt.  I can't believe they wouldn't let you in - even if it was during covid.  They should have let you in.   I remember during covid, that either my sister or I were allowed in with my Mom (not both of us) and of course we had to wear a mask.
That was a beautiful way you guys chose to handle those old family pictures and display them even tho you didn't know all the folks in the photos. :) :)

Phyl- I would need to look again at my baby book, but I'm pretty sure my baby book is the same as yours, except mine is yellow!  My brother's baby book was blue!  He was 14 months younger than I.    Thank you for Robin Brumm's report!!!   Pretty pink sun flowers.
Love the nest pics!

Lani- Oh no!! So sorry to hear that Mike took a fall in the kitchen late at night.  I'm glad he is fine other than being a bit sore.  Hope he takes it easy for a couple of days to make sure he has recouped. {{Mike}}

Tsk- Yes, my mom wouldn't be able to remember everything the doctor says during her appt.   So it really helps when we are with her!   This doctor (pain specialist) is still recommending my mom to continue PT.  My mom is happy to continue with it too.

Clynn- Good for Erin in having power outlets in his Silverado!  Perfect for an emergency situation!    Thank goodness for having family members to accompany the patient to their medical appts.!!  Thank goodness for you and your Sisters! :)

Oldguy- Thank you for weather update/status!

Tig- Have a fun and safe trip when you guys head out tomorrow! :)

LisaG-  I usually go with my hubby to his doctor appts.  He likes me to be with him!

Kb- Hope you & Ollie were able to take a walk!

Karen- Congrats on your driver's license!! :)

Baz, BL, Lori  :)

Goodnight Beakers   - SEDs :)

BL, if the Pickle was heavier on your return home, then it sounds like you started catching fish once you started using the cicadas as lures, as Pip recommended!

Boga Grip landed and soft released on one heck of a Bass Pickle canoe day for sure Baz.    8)

Broke out one of Grandfathers hand made cicada like top water hopper popper lures on the lite tackle at sunrise.

Many critters joined us at this shoreline for the start of the fishing day.

The Bow, Kopje  _  not fishing or catching  _  still as a dog gets.

Good Boy. Good Boy.

There is nothing purer than large mouth bass biting at a NY lake at sunrise.

{{{Puff}}} thank you for sharing your sweet story of Aunt Lydia and "our ring." You have many wonderful memories of your family.

{{{Karen}}} Congratulations! Happy for you! And to think you could have had a motorcycle renewal too.  ;D ... Mike sometimes forgets he can't turn his hips anymore. Yes, he was embarrassed.

Baz, Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the Cicadas. I wonder if we will see them here. I hope you and Zippo are okay after the storm.

Phyl, I didn't realize there are so many beautiful variety of Pink sunflowers.

Clynn, I hope your appt with chiropractor went well. And electric power returned to Erin and all.

Camper and Tig, safe travels and have a good time.

Oldguy, thanks for links.
