Good Morning Beakers!

Phyl, snow reminder in the 365! It's coming...  ;D  46 here now, high today 47. High yesterday was 71.  :o Black cats are beautiful!

Puff, my big squeeze coming up next month, yes, well worth the squish!

Lisa, it's nice that workplaces are allowing more time for new Mom & Dads to be at home. Sydney took her time off and then Erin became the primary caregiver and got 12 paid weeks off to care for Bella. Gives the Dads some good bonding time with the new baby. Fingers crossed for good news on Bradley's injury. Harley goes down the stairs in front of Ed, crisscrossing on every other step. Ed says he is trying to trip him! I think he is just trying to make sure he is coming down... Just saw the pictures of Bandit and Misty on FB, hope you don't mind!

Lani, love your little good night witch! She even has a cat riding with her on her broom!  I may have to try the early morning walk, I need some energy in the morning!

baz, your walks sound wonderful! Is the alligator the same one you have talked about before? You have a lot of wildlife and nature around you!

karen, I wish my garage was the only place full of excess stuff! I have another load ready to go to Goodwill. Chipping away at it, at least I have him bringing in less now.  ::)

tsk, people say Cathy and I look alike, and we both look like Mom. We always told Becky she looked like the milkman! I guess she looks like Dad! Now that you mention it, no one even thought of taking pictures of the three of us with Mom! And it seems like I was the only one taking pictures at all, except the last evening when Celia and the boys were there. Mom is staying at Cathy's until 11/4, so she will be there for her 89th birthday on 11/1.

BL, I have a pair of the 180's, they are great!

For clarification:

Eagles4: it's the bulb like pictured above..an appliance bulb. And, the silver part is melted to the fixture up inside the hood. Chris tried for a very long time, using a needle nose pliar, to bend/ pull the silver part out and it won't come out without potentially wrecking the whole fixture that it attaches to..Just tiny pieces of metal were pulled off. It's a no go.

BTW needle nose pliars have rubber handles....just turned the light switch off and we were good to go.

will need a new hood entirely eventually...

TGIF Beakers!
Hi Lilbro, Blschue, Lori, Clynn, Tsk, Lisa, Karen, Oldguy, Puff, Eagles, Kb, Tig, Baz, Phyl, Peep, Jaspurr, Pink, Jilltosa, BL, Eburg, Weasel, Ezee, Bggolden, T40, ssrl, Maxie, Nrstooge, Omasawyer, Paulie, jicaji, LB, and All!

Eagles, Mike had two zoom meeting yesterday. His office door was closed most of the day, but at least he's home. I went about doing more firewising outside. I was helping the neighbors with their firewise debri. They'll be gone this weekend, so big rush to get the job done before Sunday night deadline. I have a zoom meeting this morning and then I will change the batteries in the outside LED landscape lights. I have 20 to reset. So I'll be as busy as the witch in my morning post! You have a good Friday!  ;D :-*

Lisa, It's wonderful Bradley will have the next two months at home. Perfect for healing, the holidays and taking care of Miss Sydney!  I agree with Tsk about changing diapers and such. Even holding baby with one arm and trying to do something else with the other. Lots of good wishes and prayers sent to the new family!

Hi Puff, Tsk, Kb:)

Phyl, I miss our black cat Samantha. She ruled the crew! Orange cup is a cute idea.

Clynn, great morning pics and Lisa's photos of Bandit and Misty. Typical black cat with suspicious eyes.  ;D ... I knew you and Cathy were sisters, and you both do resemble your mom more.... Shannon always told Aly the milkman was her father, because of his blue eyes. That's nice your mom is staying at Cathy's for a little while longer... I wish the owls would stay away from SWFL nest!

SWFL Eagles ~ Great Horned Owls Visit Nest For 2nd Time In A Night! Territorial Hooting! ♫ 10.25.23
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMQe9G8zUy4

Oct 26, 2023 #baldeagles #southwestfloridaeaglecam #eagles
This is the second visit by the pair of Great Horned Owls to the nest and nest tree in the same day. If you recall, they flew in in the early morning hours of Oct 25th and the male brought prey for the female but she was not around so he flew off with it. After the sun went down, the owls returned around 7:51 pm - the male landing first on nest edge engaging in territorial hooting. The female owl flies in to the outer branch three minutes later and they both engage in a hooting duet ♫. The male now enters the nest and looks around hooting. He will then fly up to the attic branch where both owls are seen from cam 1 and the 360. The male flies off first and the female will follow.

This is the beginning of the season and the owls are scouting for a nest  & engaging in courtship behaviors. As you may remember, the owls have utilized Harriet and M15's alternate nest (N2) in the west pasture for the past three seasons. Last year they successfully raised three owlets to fledging. Owls in Florida tend to lay eggs in December /early January. Harriet would lay her eggs in mid November each season - we don't know when F23 may lay her eggs. While the owls are coming to the nest at night and trying to lay claim on it  - the eagles are busy nest building during the day and as egg laying s closer, they will begin roosting in the nest tree at night.

SWFL Eagles ~ Great Horned Owl Brings Prey! 😲 Both Owls In Nest Tree Hooting! Owl To Nest 10.25.23
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNmGNVbarzY

Oct 25, 2023  #baldeagles #southwestfloridaeaglecam #eagles
Early in the morning, the male GHO flies in to the attic and the female flies in shortly thereafter to the outer branch. Dual hooting is heard from them as the female flies to the attic arch. They continue their duet as the female flies to the veranda and then drops to the nest. She does not stay long and heads to the edge of the nest as they both continue their hooting. She flies to the attic and then will fly up to the upper branches. The male flies to the U branch and then will take off.

Later,  the male owl returns with prey in his beak & lands on the veranda. He is calling for his mate and then flies to the attic and continues to call for her, He will transfer the prey (which looks like half of a rabbit) to his talons and continues to call for the female. He transfers the prey a couple more times before flying off with it. The female did not show up to claim the food gift - it appears that he ate the first half of the prey. He probably went off to try and find his mate to deliver the food.

This is the beginning of the season and the owls are engaging in courtship behaviors and looking for a nest. As you may remember, the owls have utilized Harriet and M15's alternate nest (N2) in the west pasture for the past three seasons. Last year they successfully raised three owlets to fledging. some bounce
I went to the pool 4 times this week, and have done well with my "diet". My knees feel better, so I may have lost a pound or two. Perhaps I'll have the courage to get on the scale in a few weeks. !!

Thanx for hugs re: Rosie. When I hear news, I'll share.

Going to be "nesting" this weekend, as we are experiencing a 6 day cold spell.

Clynn, Phl, Lani I think you all have been introduced to /have met my Puff through my numerous tales - maybe not Lani?

Affectionately called Puff the Beast -  To me Puff my Love.
No pic just usual features - All black, gold eyes

My funniest tale:  Puff would slink up and hang over my shoulder for hours, purring and eventually drooling down my back.  I'd have my elbow bent under just to aid the hanging, didn't want Puff to fall.

And then one day I really got worried because I felt bumps on the butt.  Oh, no!
Found out a bit later that Puff was not a She  -  bumps were testicles, Puff was He!

He ended up having a fan club.  He would know when there was someone at the drive or door and meet and greet them.  People came to see him; first thing out of most visitors mouths was "Hi Puff".

My first Halloween contribution....so darn cute...play the music with it!

Had to wear my long winter jacket and smart wool socks with Ollie man on our walk this morning..just around 36 degrees...Of course he thought putting his jacket on was just a game....nope..eventualy, whew, I got it on him...

Have lots of leaves to bag/mulch in this continued cold weather....sometimes my mower doesn't start below 45 degrees....we shall see.

Cute story, Puff!

KB  Cute Arctic fox but I know that fish was set up for him otherwise where was the hook??  Was happy to see that  :D
That cutie baby and dog - saw it on FB yesterday.  How clever and sweet.

LANI    LOLOL  Love your freeway witch.   Now that 's the way to beat the traffic  ;) ;)   Do you just change batteries in those lights whether they need it or not - just the same time every year?    Gosh owls at the SWFL nest again.  Wonder who will win out?

TIG  Nice week of exercise.  ;D   "curling ducks"  ::) ::)

PUFF   Funny story about Puff  ;) ;)

Phyl - Thanks for posting about National Black Cat Day. Aww, Samantha!  The Jack-O'-Lantern fruit cups...too cute!

tsk & Lani - I asked him this morning how was he feeling, and was he managing ok, and he said, Fine and Yes.  ::)  He sent me a pic of the hand...I do not know how he is changing diapers, but I guess he is managing.

clynn - Yea, it is nice that workplaces are being more relaxed about the work from home.  Oh yikes, Harley trying to trip Ed on the stairs!  Of course, I do not mind you posting M&B.  :)  WOW, that Iowa tenderloin.  Love the Broom hair, don't care!

kb - Yay, on the light bulb change! Beautiful fox.

E4E - Thank you  :)

Lani - Thanks for the SWFL update.

tig - Good job with diet and pool!

If all goes planned, this lil cutie will be coming to my house on Sunday!

HAPPY (FRI)DAY, BEAKERS!  ;) :D

I'm kinda in a dash... but I got a chance to do a quick read of all the posts...

Lisa, so glad Bradley got his ortho appt for fairly soon. Hate he had that accident, but wow on the timing re. work and leave and such. That's a big help, for sure!  Aww, what a great picture of a wonderfully happy Sydney - melts the heart!  :-* :-* :-*  Woot! Bring on Sunday!!  :D

Clynn, no, the really big alligator I mentioned yesterday is a different gator at a different pond, across a busy street, pretty far from my home. Swampy the Gator still lives in the retention pond beside my place, though. It's a rare pond around here that doesn't have a regular gator... but they do move around. Those GHOs don't give a hoot about M15 and his new "girl."  ::)  I hope The Mighty M will "take care of business," and make sure he keeps his nest for his own this season!

Tig, good on ya!!  Curling ducks!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  ((Rosie))

Puff, discovering your Puff was a boy. Surprise!  ;D ;D ;D

I almost didn't walk today, but after I got back from errands and putting things away, I hit the other side of the door before I sat down and changed my mind. LOL.  My knee requested a shorter walk today,  ::) :-\  so I only walked 30 minutes. Zackly.  Shorter than my other recent walks, but still in my 30-minute "goal," and at least I didn't talk myself out of going. ;)   I was treated to a One-Bluebird-Escort, flitting from tree to tree, till she reached her territory limit, I guess, and doubled back. I saw one Monarch flutterby.

My imagined musical accompaniment on my walk today:
The Ballad of Busted Knee - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-VAxGJdJeQ   ;D 8)

It's approaching Happy Hour here, and I'm gonna enjoy a snack and a glash of Pinot Grigio.
  ;)

Enjoy your weekend, Beakers! Do it up right.  :D

I don't know why?...I did not change or fix the light bulb situation.

It's melted so can't fix.

I have to buy a whole new hood with lights/fan next year when I can afford it.

tsk, I guess the high of 42 for today was at 5:00 AM, it's 39 right now and windy...brrr!! The plants will give it up tonight for sure. I have already cut a lot of the hostas down.

kb, what a cute Halloween baby and dog! The baby laughed like he enjoyed being inside the pumpkin! And what a good dog!

Puff, I can tell that Puff was your soul cat... you still miss him, it shows...  Bogey was mine, he's been gone since 2000, also before cell phones so I will have to find an actual picture and then take a picture of it. He would lay in my arms, like a baby. I think we all have that one pet that can still bring tears...

Lani, I sure hope the owls at SWFL find somewhere else to go, they are mean! Isn't that funny, Becky and Aly look like the milkman! Are you enjoying your extra time with Mike? Of course you are!  ;D ;D  That freeway witch is something else!

baz, so have you seen Swampy lately? You are the only person I know who has an alligator neighbor! Oh my, I was only 12 when that Beatles song came out! So did your knee twist and shout?  ;D  Enjoy your glash of wine...  :o

Lisa, probably not too hard to change the baby, imagine how it would be with a real diaper and those big diaper pins! What a sweet picture, she has that little mischievous look! I remember that I got a onesie for Bella when she was little, it said 'Daddy fixed my hair today'. Oh goodie, you get to babysit!!!
