Let me remind all of a pic I posted at one point when I was having my mailbox reconstructed/repaired last year. Let me also repeat/remind of what it is - about 4 or 5 feet high, made of blackbrick, cemented together, mailbox itself is stainless and chrome, lighted from the inside at sunset til sunrise, located at the end of the driveway at the curb. Been here 52 years; mailbox has been knocked down 4 times. First time city snow plowing cost them $300-400. (Shortly thereafter ordinance instituted a description and cost guide.) Second time, teen driver in a snit with parent, speeding in reverse, lost control. Parent who knew someone in the trades had all the work done by these friends. Daughter was made (?) to pay - which I doubt she did with her attitude. Third time was the USPS. No, he didn't stop, just left part of the mirror that sticks out sooo far. Ton went to local facility and found the little truck with no mirror; they paid. Last time it was a pickup that had to turn around on this local road, did a 3 pt backup turn-around and took out the mailbox. Police and police report said from the tracks left in the newly fallen snow it was a wide pickup (which now had a whole lot of damage!). Price always has been going up. Brick/cement work, new plexiglass, $800; mailbox, $350. IDIOTS! Can't tell me none of them knew or couldn't see. It was even lit up. Fools! Let's see who lasts longer - me or the mailbox?
Morale of the story, a rock and a flag is not a guarantee. Good ideas; hope one works, I really do. Idiots just don't care.
