Lisa  cheery greetings this AM.  I also found squirrel incident  in Lori's gif yesterday  very troubling for the reason of how it looked.

Tsk nice  March greeting today. My beakroom mornings are gonna be a bit less enjoyable w/o you for a few days  ---you know that, don't you?  Well you should.

KB    Like you when I saw this  I had my suspicions---Your charming feathred owl, is neither living or fancy feather duster---but a toy of sorts.https://www.pinterest.com/pin/293367363196825884/

Eagles ditto on Amy's blog. But I felt since there are guest in the Forum, some might find it helpful; your AM greeting is another cheery start to the day

Olguy tks for update on Cali.  Luv your Minion for today, truer words. Tornadoes---exactly what I hate about spring in Tenn and when I was in Mo.  Living on the edge

Lani Springy March greeting; tks for your weather update; I also thought the squirrel was breaking into the egg to drink the contents

KB thank you! for Update on  Taho. What a sad story. Poor fella. But a heartwarming and uplifting ending. Hope all continues to go well for him at Pet Heaven and 'Follow Me Dogs' shelters and rehab.

Hello Beakers! Another fun day with Bella! We had to go to the Dollar Tree (s/b the Buck and a Quarter Tree' now!) so that she could get presents for her Mom & Dad and brother. Mom got some sparkly nail polish, Dad got some potato sticks and Talon got some big dice. We got little gift bags, and she traced her hand and stuck those inside the bags too, after she wrote 'Love Bella' on them. Puzzles, painting and of course, ah-Pad! I had gotten her some fuzzy ponytail elastics, she wore them on her wrists all day! Except when she was washing dishes...

oldguy, the snow at Juan's place today! I opened one of the videos on the side, it is WOW!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEqMZn5gAQA

Baz, rabbit, rabbit...

Lani, the albatross chick is getting big and so pretty! Love her first skycall, so cute! Yeah, I read the same in the Decorah North chat, it's odd all around. One egg and such long times left uncovered. Dagnabit.

Lori, thanks for the updates!

Phyl, good night!

In view of recent developments at N1. Not quite sure how relevant this is.
However, since N1 has lost an egg. Perhaps it'd be good to know.

Jupiter and Venus 'kiss' in a stunning planetary conjunction tonight. Here's how to watch.

On March 1 and 2, Jupiter and Venus will appear side by side in the night sky in an event called a conjunction, which is visible without a telescope or binoculars.

LORI   Your March babies are so cute  ;)

BAZI  I just said "rabbit rabbit" 50 times  LOL  I never heard that before.

KB  Such good news to hear there are organizations out there willing to give dogs like Taho a second chance.  They are some special people.  Poor pup. Thanks for the follow-up.   Well there is still one egg left.  Let's hope.

PHYL  Thanks for the detective work on the "feather duster"  LOL        " press your luck"  groaner.  I think the broken egg was Mn DNR nest not N1

EAGLES  I would like to wish you and Kris a very Happy Anniversary and now know why you are going to Kauai  LOL  I may not be home on the 5th to post.

CLYNN  I wish you were my grandma  ;D   That snowstorm is every bit as bad as any number of natural disasters.  Hard to watch the video.  The plow and heavy machinery operators are like firefighters.  God bless their efforts   I'm sure confused on the nests and eggs.  N1 is OK right?  Mn DNR  lost and egg  right?

First of all, thank you to all of you, friends, who will think about me tomorrow and maybe offer some prayers that the surgeon has a good night's sleep  LOL.  I need to be there at 6 AM and surgery is within two hours from that. They say it should take 2 hours?   I have asked CLYNN to accept a text from my SIL  Barb when there is news to report.  I have been free of the excruciating pain in my left leg since Feb 16th when suddenly I woke up in the AM to NO pain at all - Just like that.  This happened 2 weeks to the day after the second injection which must have kicked in. So it has been wonderful to have 2 weeks of comfort and be weaned off of the pain pills which never helped anyway.  The surgery is inevitable so am going with it while I am healthy and do not seem to have any permanent leg weakness.  This will be my first experience as a hospital patient.  Tim has been a champ but I have said  " you owe me one" as I have witnessed his double knee replacements, 4 stents, and a double by-pass surgery - but who's counting.  ::) ::)

See you later gators

Oldguy - Good links and info - thanks! :)  Yikes - tornadoes  :o ::)

Lani - Just as you mention - all the snow/rain is needed to fill our lakes and reservoirs & streams - we are welcoming all, as we sure don't ever want another drought.  Love the Albatross vid!!

Kb - Oh no, DNR egg broke?!! :( :(

BL - Thanks for map - all good info as always!

LisaG - Oh no, so sorry about the DNR egg and you were watching the nest. . . .Awe so sad.  :'( :'(

Lori - Hope things are ok with Great Spirits Bluff nest.  Like all your March gifs  :)

Hi Baz - Sweet messages for Tsk.

Kb - I remember reading about this story.  So sad that Taho was almost designated for euthanasia.  So wonderful that there are still folks trying to help him.

Phyl - I knew when I read about the squirrel that it had to be bad news. :(

Clynn - Yes ; Dollar Tree s/b known as 1.25!!   Darling pics of Bella! :)

Tsk - You are always in my thoughts and will be thinking about you.  It doesn't matter I will be in Kauai on Saturday for a week, I will still be thinking of you and wishing you all the very best.  I already have a card that I will be sending out to you tomorrow.  I bet Tim will be taking excellent care of you.

All Beakers have a good night - stay warm.

Kb, re: albatross mothers will often check on their neighbors chicks when parents are gone. She takes a moment to sit and groom. Little SP let her know she was fine, thank you very much! Little SP has been walking and exploring around her nest. that's sad about DNR egg.  :( ... oh, sad about Taho, I pray with the help of Follow Me Dog rescue and the determination by the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office that he may have a chance after all he's been through. Thanks for keeping us informed. I pray for the best.

BL, the heavy rain/sleet started at 5pm today, and it's been none stop. The wash behind our home is full and running fast and furious. Pine/Strawberry are at an higher elevation, they're receiving 12" since last week. The Rim around us is covered in snow. Very beautiful. Thanks for map.

Baz, "Rabbit, Rabbit!" A bit late, but you never know! And I certainly didn't!  ;D

Clynn, sweet pics of Miss Bella, especially doing the dishes! A nice shopping day for love gifts for her family, that's sweet  :-* ....  I know what you mean "dagnabit!" Sad for our eagles... love the dog and leash... and yes, we spent Friday night at the Drive-in theatre in Salina.... oh my that snow storm at Donner Pass!  :(

Phyl, that's great news a 2nd egg for HM!!  ;D ... thank you for info about Jupiter and Venus! Would love to see that.

Eagles :-*

Good night Tsk, Praying that God takes extra special care of you tomorrow and the days to follow!

Good Morning Beakers!

Lani, it's comforting to know that other albatross mothers will check on others chicks! When I watched the video I was kind of sad that the chick seemed to be 'mad' at his parent but now I see that it wasn't his parent but another chick's parent! Is the wash behind your house still running furious? A picture?

oldguy, yes, that was a scary drive in that video, I would have been so afraid of those walls of snow caving in...  I agree, Bellamy is doing a great job!

tsk, I am sure we will all be praying for you today... I am looking forward to the good news from Barb!

E4E, I bet you are gatting anxious for your trip! I have been to Hawaii, many, many years ago. My first husband and I won a trip to O'ahu in 1975 and it was so beautiful, and the best coffee I have ever had!

SF Bay Ospreys - Rosie has returned! She landed on the nest today at 4:09 pm, calling to another Osprey hovering above (possible floater). Golden Gate Audubon had just completed a shoreline cleanup this morning, so Rosie's timing couldn't have been better.  More to come soon! Watch live at www.sfbayospreys.org.

Posted last night by Ginger, on the Explore.org chat:

Ginger (Iowa) 9 hours ago    Posted this evening on RRP Facebook page.
Intruders continue to roil activity at the North nest. RRP master bander Dave Kester checked it out on February 27 and reported three adult eagles quite close to the north nest. As we suspected, DNF is spending most of her time guarding the nest and chasing the strangers away. Unfortunately, we’re getting a really excellent look at the ways in which eagle populations limit themselves, something we’ll be writing more about.

Why has DNF been spending so much time away from her eggs? Broodiness is caused by hormonal changes. After the first egg is laid, testosterone and progesterone should rapidly decrease while prolactin, a hormone that induces incubation and brood patch swelling, rapidly increases. The intruders might be boosting the production of hormones that prohibit or interfere with broodiness.

Will the egg survive? We weren’t too concerned about the incubation patterns we saw on February 24, since we’ve seen eagles spend fairly long periods of time off newly laid eggs before. But the intruders are upsetting things and a fox squirrel attempted to eat the lone egg on February 28 while DNF and Mr. North were away. It wasn’t successful, but we have no idea whether the egg is still viable. For now, we’ll continue to watch the nest and document activity in the valley of the Norths. Thank you for watching with us. Life in a wild nest isn’t always easy.
