Good Morning Beakers....Merry Christmas Eve!

tsk - Good job on the puzzle.  Love it!

karen - Your boiled shrimp, corn on the cob, and watermelon sounded delicious!

baz - Remaining lives...LOL  That is so funny...Christmas Adam. Thanks for BL's code words  ;D ;D

Lani - Dinner was delicious, and also very carby, so I skipped lunch.  We had the onion basket for a starter.  Jeff had a half smoked chicken platter, and I had the Delta catfish platter.  I had my fingers crossed that my blood sugar would not be high, after all that fried food.  It was 144, not too bad!

Phyl - Pretty angel this morning.  Thanks for the 365, and RRP post.

Who was it that mentioned recently oatmeal cookies "with raisins".  Well, this year's batch came out super yummy.  Made them yesterday - munching them with my tea this morning. PM me with address and I'll send a freebie taste.

kareng  Tsk gave out good info - ORD indeed does stand on land that was formerly an orchard.

Bonus answer: Midway MDW was given to the airport during WWII honoring those who faught in the battle of Midway.

Many connected side facts: We lived within 1/2 mile off of Runway 4L.  My Dad ended up taking flying lessons, got his license at Midway.  Other related factoid - Dad was a welder.  He got a job in SF working on modifying the decks of the Enterprise to handle to equipment/planes.  Was top secret - it just hit me, I wonder what happened to the old (very old) pictures of the inside work he did and had pictures as a keepsake.

Puff, Thanks for sharing your dad's work on the USS Enterprise. We were privileged to see the Enterprise, awesome ship! After your post I looked up to see when it was decommisioned.

Enterprise was deactivated on 1 December 2012 at Norfolk Naval Station, Virginia. The deactivation of Enterprise resulted in a one-time increase of approximately $857.3 million in depot maintenance costs for the U.S. Navy's operation and maintenance budget for Fiscal Year 2013.

Enterprise was the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to be decommissioned.Naval enthusiasts requested that Enterprise be converted into a museum. By 2012 this was deemed too expensive to make such an effort practical, in addition to the fact that the ship would need to be partially dismantled anyway to remove the eight reactors safely.[ A petition was also set up for the next carrier to be named as the ninth USS Enterprise. At her inactivation ceremony, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced that the next Gerald R. Ford-class carrier, CVN-80, would be named Enterprise.

The final disposal plan for Enterprise was a long and complicated process. The carrier had eight reactors and numerous compartments contaminated by radiation and therefore could not be used as a target ship in a SINKEX or live-fire training sinking exercise. The Navy set up a new office to organize the disposal of Enterprise and the coming retirement of the Nimitz-class carriers. Ultimately it was decided to use a commercial facility to break the ship up, with scrapping to begin in 2025. The process is anticipated to take five years.

The decommissioned Enterprise alongside her replacement, USS Gerald R. Ford, at Newport News, July 2018

tsk - Cute Christmas greeting this morning.

Puff - Jeff has made everything, but oatmeal raisin, and they are one of my favorites.  Enjoy yours!

karen - The square thing with the knife in it was the onion basket.  Oh, I am a lil envious.  I would love to be having a beignet and cafe au lait!

Lani - Thanks for info on Enterprise, very interesting. I see the Sisters are ready for mass this morning.  ;D

Merry Christmas Eve all!..this is the DNR couple who lost their nest in the April 1 ice storm but have built another nearby and still together often perching in the old tree.

Stay safe out there!...Sis just got home from watching her son and dil dogs so they could travel to Topeka for her family. Many couldn't come as they were all sick!...I'm hearing this a lot lately, knocking on wood we are, as not even a cold since 2014...But, hopefully with all the holiday get togethers peeps will be responsible enough to stay home if sick.

Vikings game today before dinner...and lots of rain!

Family secret on the oatmeal cookies Lisa.  It really isn't much of a secret, though.  Everyone who has a Betty Crockett big cookbook will not doubt have it.  Personally, I use her Cooky Cookbook.  (Notice the spelling they use for cooky?  Niece found that to be a gas.)

OK, what you do before you start the recipe is to start the raisins.  A full cup of raisins that get even fuller because you simmer them is a cup of water for about 1/2 hour.  Save the left over liquid.  Don't waste/pour out the liquid left.  Use that left over simmer water to add whatever to get 1/2 cup mixed.  You'll mix in the raisin mixed water later in the recipe.   Capisce?

BTW Michigan or Minnesota?

Hello Beakers!

We got to Moms Friday evening around 5:30, droppd Kelsey off and headed for the ER in Evansville, In. About 3 hours into our trip I blinked my left eye and poof! the vision in that eye was gone. After 3 hours in the ER and a consult with an ophthalmologist we went back to Mom's with a 9:00 appointment with that same Dr for him to determine what happened with my eye. Turned out to be Central Retinal Artery Occlusion. I have a small amount of vision at the far left edge of my left eye, but mostly just seeing out my right eye. The Dr sent test results to my primary and my eye Dr with referral to the Wolfe Clinic in West Des Moines. They have 2 retinal specilalists there. There is nothing that can be done right now but the Wolfe Clinic is the place to go in IA. Hopefully there is something, and mostly to try to determine what caused this, to prevent it from happening to my other eye.

So there is my  Holiday News!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve! I willl pop back in tomorrow!

Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away. ~ Unknown
