FYI, the two juvenile turkey vultures at Marshall, MO, fledged early this afternoon.  Check the Forum for pics, and watch on the rewind.

Nice sunset this evening, and DH2 settled in for the night at the branch above N1.

After overnight in branch above N1, DH2 has been in several locations this morning, calling for food to no avail as yet.  One sighting of an adult flying but I forget when!!

DH2 in branch above N1, then upstream perching, then on top of the Pond bluffs, then soaring with vultures.  No pic of the soaring, sorry, needs video!

Lisa, I wondered which pine tree DH2 and crow were using this morning. Thanks for your in-person expertise from ATF!

During most of the morning when DH2 was on the Y and calling, but no food, there was an adult in the leafy branches above N1, barely visible. I figured it was one of the parents, but could have been another adult or a sub-adult waiting to get in on a feeding.

After noon, DH2 left the Y, flew to the Pond bluffs, where turkey vultures were soaring and landing.  I believe one of them spooked DH2 away.  No pic, but watchable on the rewind.

DH2 tried a lil fishing this morning.  Walked in the pond, picked out a fish, dragged it up to the side, tried to fly off with it, but it fell.

Mornin' Lisa  That was a fairly large fish for her first "catch".  Not really a catch, it was dead.  LOL  Never saw any attempt at eating.  Little steps.

DH2 learning how to fish the Pond this morning!  Great pics Lisa & Phyl.  Yep, a fish, large and dead, too heavy for DH2 to maneuver easily, also close to the road and crows are harassing.  After the first flyoff, DH2 returned to both sides of the Pond and a parent was flying around and around probably offering moral support but no physical help.  Better to watch this long sequence on rewind or video.  It's after noon as I post this and so far the fish is still on the ground, uneaten.

Aha, the plot thickens!  That parent flying around after DH2 dragged the fish from the pond, it might have been a sub-adult instead.  Here's a pic of the sub perched in a Hatchery pine tree, then flying away at about 8:00 AM.

DH2 was on the Y, puffed up and challenging the crows at 12:45 this afternoon.  No more news about the fish.

Thanks for the narration and photos. And great work cam operators! Surely this has happened before with fledglings trying to mimic what Mom and Dad made look so easy? ;) So cute and wonderful. Love DH2's "can-do" spirit!

(She didn't so much "catch" that fish as "pounce" on it!)
