Cal, can you find a bee keeper to talk to about it?  Maybe one of the would have a suggestion on what works the best as far as garb?  ??? ???

Good luck with the insurance Rues.

Joe had a follow up for his shoulder up in LaCrosse today.  Dr. K took off his weight restriction, but I added in just ease into it so you don't ruin it and the doctor agreed.  He can ride his regular bike now, but he told Joe it bother him for a while with the jarring, but go ahead and try it.  The one exercise he was supposed to be doing (the rest were ok) bothered him a lot and it would be sore the next day, so he said he didn't have to do that one and gave him a couple that will still stretch it where it needs to stretch, but should work better for him.  After that we hit Culver's for lunch and headed home.

I think it got up in the 70's, low humidity, and breezy.  It was wonderful and now (almost midnight) it's 59.  Should be great sleeping again tonight at 53.  :)  Lots of dew already.  Tomorrow 72. Hermine is sure moving up the east coast fast.  Did you get much rain JP?  Some of the videos on the weather channel are really something.

I love the way Eli is holding his mouth. :D

JP did your son move to where Hermine went?  I can't remember where you said they relocated to. :(  Oh good, I saw your post that said Patrick is ok where they are!

That Tasha sure has it made there, she's in a wonderful place for her new home.

Glad that caught the guy that got out by where your sister works Cal.

Although not in person I've seen pictures of those cows Dee.  That IS really different being tri-colored.  I bet you ARE enjoying this cooler weather.  Sorry you can't get out more.  Little Bei Bei looks so cute standing there by his mom with the box/honey.  Where did this past year go?!  That was a beautiful sunset on the Naknek River.

Everyone have a great and safe holiday weekend!

Daily Updates
Tasha, Holly, WRI - UPDATE September 2, 2016
02 September 2016
Print Email
The word from Curator Sharon Herrell is that Tasha put herself back into her enclosure at noon without visiting the viewing area. Tasha cooling off
Tasha cooling off
She then relaxed in her little pool and ate her treats when each new Behind-The-Scenes group visited.

20160902 Hollys Den
20160902 Hollys Den
Sharon said Holly has been busy. Holly is back to digging wild-type dens like she did last year and two years ago. She is digging in 4 spots, concentrating on one near the mound. Thank goodness she has changed direction on that one and is now digging under a large rock there instead of into the septic mound. I wonder what deterred her from going farther into the septic mound. Will she end up abandoning all her work to be with Lucky again this winter like she did last year?

At WRI, tension rules. Each shot brings apprehension. The guide?s 10 hunters killed 7 bears across the Ely area yesterday evening, and another hunter who usually hunts around here filled his tag (but we don?t know where). Community feeders are frequently on the phones checking on recent sightings of favorite bears. We don?t yet know that any favorites have been taken. Lily, Ember, Jewel, Fern, Jack, Colleen, Samantha, Sophie, Ursula, and others have been accounted for in the area. Still waiting for word on Braveheart, Oliana, Donna, Crackle, Faith, Shadow, and some others. We have faith. Not all bears are seen every day.

Tame herring gull    Fawn at dawn   Doe at dawn

At dawn yesterday, a doe watched calmly as I drove near. She kept her ears focused on something behind her, hardly responding to me other than looking.

A fawn that paused while following his mother showed that he lost his spots already.

The tame gull?s head is getting the streaks of winter plumage. Her small size plus the dark spot on her right iris at 8 o?clock identifies her. Somehow, she is instantly recognizable at a distance. I think it is her smaller size and the way she sits. At close range, when I go out the door with bologna, she steps toward me rather than getting ready to fly. For the non-tame ones, bears have to be less than 5 feet away, and often closer, to make them fly.

Bear in Woods Lake    Shaking off water after swim

Today, out the window, the day ended with a bear playing in the water in the same place one did a week or so ago. Then he came out and shook.

Thank you for all you do.

A nameless bear and a friend having lunch together.

Gr-r-r-r,  I have no idea why I overslept  until 7.  I was not up late.  Mentally it  ruins  the whole  day for me.

I just hope the morning is better for all of you and that you can look back at it with no complaints.

It took me 9:18 to stop the car so  I  got smashed by the porta-potties.

Oh, being shaken by an earthquake can be an earth-shaking experience.

Hi Jewelies! Another nice day here. It got down right chilly last night! Turned the ac off and let Mother Nature cool the house down with a cool breeze! It's still nice this afternoon with the breeze but gets a little hot in the sun! Still I'd take this over 90's and humidity. That comes back Monday! Ugh.

Cal, both my PBS channels are showing all 52 episodes of Downton Abbey this weekend! A Downton marathon pledge drive. They started last evening. I watched 2 episodes last night and went to bed a little after 11. This morning when I got up they were up to Season 2, episode 3, I think that's what they said. I'm keeping it on and doing chores and whatnot and stopping once in awhile and watching!  Are there not many beekeepers in your area? Around here, even in the city, lots of folks have bees but out in the country everyone keeps bees. My grandpa had 6 hives. We had to be careful and not step on any of his bees or else! Lol! Sandy had 2 hives, one was the regular white one and then for Christmas my sis got her an English one that was beautiful. It looked like a piece of furniture. I don't know if she sold the hives after she quit beekeeping or not. Good idea about you not mowing with Jim away. Don't want anymore trips to the hospital and scaring us all to death! I could barely get thru the part in the update about the bear killings. We have another month of this to go thru.  :(  Coyote shooting George is here!! He almost never comes here! But we wanted to watch the WVU game and he couldn't get it on his tv. You know he lives in rural Ohio about 25 miles from us. But he is a Mountaineer not a Buckeye! Here's a funny story...after we bought the new car, Crow went to the WVU gift shop to get a WVU sticker to put on the car. The salesman asked him if he would be interested in any other WVU merchandise and Crow said ...no, not until they fire Coach Dana  Holgersen! He just won't give it up! Lol!

Jp, I'm so happy that Patrick is safe! Hope he didn't get too much water. That is the cutest pic of the bear and the squirrel!

Dlong, good to hear from you! That is the weirdest looking cow! Hope the other cows don't make fun of her! Lol! Would she be considered a calico? Thanks for the pics and videos. Twins to look forward to! Are earthquakes common around there? Robin had a minor one wake her up in the middle of the night when she lived in CA. Scared her to death! I think most of us put off medical things hoping the situation will get better. I know I do!

Nora, sounds like Joe is doing well! That's good to hear!

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!  :)

I went back to my snake picture and they wanted to people guess what this snake was and i hit the comments and it is a black racer.  It is a david steen that ids snakes and he also said... More snake knowledge will lead to fewer snakes being killed. Don't hate, educate. Kinda like bears. my little snake is fine.

Cal, that black racer isn't poisonous, is it? How'd it get in your basement? Do you think there are more? I'm pretty sure I'd go running out of the house if I found a snake! Lol!  Coyote George doesn't like the coach either. Not many do for some reason. I guess they watched some of the Ohio State game, too. While George was here, my sis and Sandy stopped by. We can go weeks without anyone, except Robin, visiting us and then today we had 3 visitors!  Right now Downton is on Season 3! Think I'll climb into bed and gorge myself the rest of the night on Downton!

Hi Jewelies!  :)

I haven't been doing much today. I was going to the Farmer's Market with my daughter but didn't feel well enough to go so she came by and brought me some tomatoes from the market and some cherry tomatoes from her garden. She had a lot of tomatoes in her garden, but all of the big ones got bitten by something. I think it was squirrels taking a bite out of each tomato!! My groceries were delivered around noon and I put them away.

Cal needs to call these folks from Midwest Bee Removal who took care of this accident yesterday!! A truck wrecked at I-35 and I-435 not far from me in Claycomo. It was carrying about 11 million bees. They were en route to Tampa, Florida.

Lun-Lun had her twins today!! They were born about 40 minutes apart; the first one around 7:20 and the other at around 8:00. They weighed around one-fourth of a pound each. They are about the size of a stick of butter. They will be named when they are 100 days old. They just kill me; they are so tiny and they are VERY loud!!  :o

This is the first cub (A) just after being born.

This is cub A in the incubator when he/she was switched out for the first time. If you remember, the zoo staff will switch the cubs out so Lun-Lun will only have to care for one at a time just like they did for Mei Lun and Mei Huan.

Here are both of the cubs! I don't know which is which!

Hi to JP, Cal, Rues, Ra, Obsver, Willi, Nora, Neva, Eaglette, Blschue, Chippy, Pat, Deb and everyone who reads here. Have a restful night!

Tasha looked so comfy in her "pool".  Holly's den seems to be progressing.

Loved the bear in the lake and also the nameless bear with the red squirrel.

I don't think earthquakes are very common north of Oklahoma, but they are getting TOO common IN Oklahoma.  I don't know about this one, but there have been quakes that are traced back to fracking.  I wish they'd quit doing that.  :(

Got our lawn mowed today and for supper a neighbor couple had a few others and us up for a fish fry.  They had spent some time at Sally's sister's by Grand Marais, MN and Mark caught northerns, walleyes, and bass.  BIG ones.  It was so good and NO BONES, NOT ONE!  It was a nice evening.
