Hi cal! Do you have to drive to the gate to open it for Polly?

Ursula is today's bear.

cal, I see that both our baseball teams managed to lose again. Fortunately for the Marlins the Nationals and the Mets also lost. I am not feeling bad but not good either. Just middle of the road and that is all right.

I thought I would make a circle puzzle for cal since I think she likes that cut.

Daily Updates
Lily Seen - UPDATE May 10, 2016
10 May 2016
Print Email
There was excitement on the phone lines with the first reports of Lily and her three yearlings Frankie, Francis, and Frannie. Coincidentally, I also heard from a TV cameramanLily and her yearlings
Lily and yearlings
who had filmed her earlier when she was still at her den. He left two trail cams there to record their activities, one of which got discombobulated and the other left a trail of batteries and part of the strap as the bears carried it off. The trail led to a bed at the base of a big white pine. That?s where the strap with the word Reconyx was, in the bed.

Ted on his log
Ted on his log
More joy was felt in another part of the community when one of the big gentle males showed up. The owner of that feeding station was happy to sit down close by him and welcome him with a treat. I?m not sure which of the big gentle males it was, an 11-year-old or a ~15-year-old. Both are shy away from the places where they have been welcomed for all or most of their lives.

Holly with melon
Holly with melon
What a difference in attitude toward bears there is in this community compared with most. Instead of worrying and calling authorities, people are happy the animals that make their connections to wildlife a little stronger are back.

At the Bear Center, Holly was treated to a melon, and Ted sat comfortably at his preaching log facing the people. It?s been several years since he was attacked by Lucky, which until recently, led to him sitting at his preaching log facing the forest.

Kawishiwi Falls
Kawishiwi Falls
An NABC staff member took a day off and visited old favorite places, one of which was Kawishiwi Falls. The Kawishiwi River forms in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and brings unpolluted water through the Ely area on its way to Hudson Bay. One of the pictures on the Upper Walls will be a bear drinking from that river. The spectacular Kawishiwi Falls is often a destination for LilyPadders before or after the Picnic and for participants in the Black Bear Field Courses.

Thank you for all you do.

Wow that's neat your grand got the Outstanding Soloist award RA!!!

DNN has a turkey wing, is that what you saw Cal? The one kid is SO tiny.

It looks like Kentucky got hit yesterday with tornadoes and on down south and west from there.

Blschue " He asked me if there was any physical activity that I like and I told him "clicking the mouse". He didn't like my answer" :D

Whoa JP that puzzle looks like a doozy! Wonder if those were stickers or ticks on Ursula's ears. Ted does like lying across things :D

It's between 55-60 and had been sunny, but clouded up and it looks like some rain headed this way. It looks like a couple severe storms almost to St. Louis, MO, but otherwise things aren't looking too bad around the US today. Good luck anyone with weather wherever you are.

JP: what in tarnation is http://www.jigzone.com/puzzles/B416D8229C0?z=21&m=A8250D6327.B4D7344??? YOU come up with some of the BEST difficult puzzles!!! I cannot believe that you are burdened with suffering an eye disease. You are a master at finding these eye-bursting puzzles for us. I will have to try this one much later today, when I really have some time to let this puzzle develop. I can guarantee I will not come close to any of you and will raise the average score for us all. lol

Cal, I blew out that dog's candle, let us just leave it at that. lol

Hello also to obsver, blschue, ra, rues and Nora. Glad to see that so many folks are participating in our elections this year. I always hate to see low voter turn out when our guys are fighting for people from other parts of the world for liberty and to have the right to vote in a democracy. It is about time that the country gets riled up and participate in our democracy!!

I wish you all good and safe weather forecasts. I and my daughter's dog, "the snout" are lying down. My podiatrist wants me off my right foot. Since I only use my left foot half the time, it too must rest, since I have not figured out how to assign all duties to the left foot. lol So here I lay, watching wild life from a lap top screen instead of walking about and seeing wild life outside my front door. Okay with me for now, just keep bringing me bonbons and cold ones; I will be fine. :o :P ;D :-*

Good morning, Jewelies! No rain yesterday, and the expected storm didn't happen last night, so hoping to get some mowing done today. This morning, the air feels tropical--very humid and no wind. Can mosquitos be far behind? Going out to breakfast. bbl

Visiting Ted at the NABC Free Day
Behind the Scenes at the NABC
Wow! 842 visitors. The day started with a busload and others at 9 AM. By 6 PM, the staff was worn out but ecstatic.

People saw the bears in action down in front?plus 35-40 behind the scenes tours to see them close-up?a big hit. Many said they didn?t know such a ?classy? place was right here in Ely. People will be talking. I met a lot of nice people.

Ted enjoyed himself and had little time to sleep as a Lily Fan caught in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCSh_xau_Tw

Good morning Jewelies! We had a half inch of rain overnight so now we have to wait for the grass to dry up somewhat before we can mow. I wanted to get the yard work finished early this morning because I have other things that I need to do! Hurry up and wait! Lol!

Cal, wish our ballot was like yours! Very few people I voted for won! :o I think I need to move to another state...one where more people believe in the same things I do! :-\ Cool about all the people that showed up at the bear center! I'd love to go there! Good news about Lily and her kids! I hope Dr Rogers is around for a long time, too! He is a good man. Glad you are getting in some game time! That is so cool that you can give the girls their shots! I don't think I could give anyone a shot! I'm a wimp when it comes to stuff like that! :D

Ra, the school concert sounded like fun! Don't suppose I'll ever get to go to a school concert again! We call Obsver's dish a breakfast casserole here, too! Yummy! Got 10 bags of black mulch yesterday but don't know when we will get it down!

Obsver, breakfast casserole...now I know what that is! Lol!

Jp, thanks so much for bringing us bear pics and greetings every morning. I look forward to seeing them everyday! Where, oh where, is Aster? Wish she would show up.

Eaglette, like Cal, I enjoyed your post! You are so funny!

HI Jewelies! Storming again this afternoon. Seems like the usual summertime routine, but it seems too early. Hot, too... about 90o. Had thunderstorm warnings yesterday and today, but they seem to either go North or South of me. I need to was my car badly, with all the pollen, but haven't had rain enough to just put the car out in the driveway for a good rinse. Our second concert is tonight at the high school, then Japanese on Monday for my daughter's birthday. I got her a lot of little stuff and wrapped it all separately. She'll love me for that! lol Think I'll probably make some cupcakes, too.

JP... Your circle puzzle was crazy! Took awhile for my eyes to get back to normal! lol I love the bear pics every morning, too!

cal... Hope you and Polly are having fun this week! How's the weather there this afternoon? Glad you didn't get the hail and bad stuff that was all around your area. Did you see some of those tornadoes?? They were huge!! One was even an EF4! That's the worst, or close to it! Can't imagine. Free day at the Bear Center... sorry we missed it. Aren't you? ;) I wonder if the weather was warm or cold... In the pic, there was a person in a coat and hat and another with a t-shirt and flipflops on! lol I was noticing what good shape Dr. Rogers is in, too. He stands up nice and straight... for an old guy! lol

rues... Move to another state? If you think anything like I do, don't move here! I'm very much in the minority! lol

obsver... What was for breakfast today? Did you wear your winter coat or your shorts? :)

Eaglette... Nice to see you! You have foot problems? I think cal should go to your podiatrist... her toe should be all better by now.

Nora... I'm so glad you're enjoying Chester! How's Joe doing?

Hi to everyone! Hope you're doing well and have a nice day!
