The Facelift, Cubs? Names - UPDATE November 11, 2015

Another aspect of the Bear Center?s facelift was the Bear Educator and intern programs that gave the Bear Center and Ecology Hall reputations for friendly, knowledgeable learning experiences this past summer. People stopped me on the street to tell what a pleasant time they had. The 20 educators and 4 interns, plus staff, made the popular behind-the-scenes tours nearly an hourly event. For the visitors, it was obvious that seeing bears up close and being able to ask questions was changing attitudes about bears. In 2016, we hope to expand both the intern and Bear Educator programs using donations from tomorrow?s Give to the Max Day.
On another subject, we are updating the Shadow?s Clan chart. That means giving names to cubs born this year.
For Ursula?s cubs we picked Ed (for E. O. Wilson), Jane (for Jane Goodall), and Dian (for Dian Fossey).
For Bow?s 3 female cubs we picked Rachel (for Rachel Carson), Florence (for Florence Merriam), and Nancy (for Nancy Krause).
For Lily?s 2 males and 1 female we and Lily Fans picked Frankie, Francis (for the Patron Saint of Animals St. Francis of Assisi), and Frannie to clarify after my error some time back.
For Braveheart?s 2 males and 1 female, we picked Stratton, Porter, and Geneva
For Shadow?s little male we used Spanky as named by the people who know this family best.
For Jewel?s 1 male and 2 females we picked Scott, Mikah, and Natalie
For Faith?s 2 males, we picked David (for Dave Mech) and Allen (for Allen Garber)
For Donna?s 2 males and 2 females, the Krauses picked Hans, Parry, Britta, and Pixie.
For Shannon?s 2 males and 1 female, the Krauses picked Blaze, Banner, and Glory
For Star?s 3 females, the Krauses picked Veanna, Vonnie, and Vixen
We?re waiting to hear what Glenn and Nancy Krause named Willow?s two cubs.
Thank you for all you do.
