5:16  Food time at Snow is random.  I've only seen them 2 or 3 times in a year.  usually a lady, but sometimes a man too.  I am really very happy to see all three Big Bear chicks thriving.  This nest is in CA. close to where my niece Kelly lives. Her back window looks out over the ocean. She is retired Coast Guard and mom of two.  Her whole family is very outdoorsy.  They hike the mountain trails together a lot. Her daughter climbs cliff faces like Halfdome in Yosemite.  Kelly fosters several horses at a ranch near her home.  She sends me photos of them now and then.
Well I did get my phone back after lots of anxiety, but this morning I cannot find the milk I went to the store to get.  It is just not here.  Dry cereal is not the same with water in place of milk.
I suggested to Debbie that it may be time for to get deeply involved in my financial activity.  She said she did not think there is any hurry, but I am not so sure. LOL  I hope she is right.
Bye for now EV1 GBU all and God Bless America.  We need it.

back Cal. Can't stay making late lunch.  Reheating leftover coffee right now.  Hearing done beep.  Shame goes vertical when I enlarge it to photograph.  Then doe horizontal when reduced.  A mystery.  I am well today paying John's medical bills from 2023 just because Debbie says the lawyer says so  55% off if payed now says the undated letter from the vulture company bill collector.  Hope it is truly owed and hope bill collector is honest.  No way I can ask John.  He is with my brother Bruce and Joan now.  So all I can do is what I am told and pray they are all honest. I do want to get this estate settled so John's children can receive the benefits john wanted them to have.

cal, Hi back to you!  :) I hope all's good with you. I'm sure all your animals are keeping you busy along with all you other things you do.
I've had a busy week with electric and plumbing repairs different days. We had yearly inspection for both and some issues were suggested needed done. We've been putting some off but decided it's time to just do it. I got lots of yard and gardens cleaned up too.

Hi jo, Hope all's good with you too.

4:18 Wow!   A record for me I think, and with my new glasses on too.  Eyes are watery.  So WOW! Hi Paulie.  Yes good here too. Lots of nice weather today and for you too maybe.
I see the Browns are entertaining and interviewing QBs.  Starting with Russel Wilson from Pittsburgh yesterday.  He left without a deal, but at least we are doing something.  What if we would approach your good QB, Patrick, would we still be friends? LOL.
Debbie said she feels the same way about our attorney.  The "B" word fits.  Everything we want to do she says OH NO can't do that.  The Judge won't like it.  All this stress is because there is a very old will.  If there was no will we could do whatever we want, as long as no-one sued to bring us to court.  Luckily things are mostly working out the way Debbie wanted.  This is the first and I hope only bill I have been instructed to pay as executor.  There have been some utilities etc., but Debbie has been paying them as they arrived.  I paid the final water bill myself out of my pocket.  Deb and I are trying to preserve as much of the estate as possible for the three children.
I am curious to know how our attorney determined that this was a valid expense to be paid for John.  The undated collection agency letter did not furnish any real proof of debt.  Maybe the attorney did some investigation.  At least I hope she did.  I will ask someday.
Well, I will let you go for now.  I want to start looking at the cams etc.

5+ minutes I think. Went for breakfast and lost it again.  I did look in on cams just now.  Mom at Big Bear is still tight on her babies.  The long wind driven snow seems to have slacked of, but the wind is still looking strong.  It has been two full days of misery for her.  Dad keeps bringing food items, but I don't se any feeding lately.  Wind is too bitter I think.  Maybe today they will get a chance to eat. No deer at the Pantry.  A few just got to the Snowman Cam. Mom North is looking pretty comfortable this morning.  We need to send some of this summery weather out to California I think.
Hi Paulie.

Just saw three raccoon on Snowman.  Five deer where there too, but were afraid to approach the table, and left. I will keep watching until the racoons leave.  The let you know if the deer come back.  Meanwhile I will look at eagles at Big Bear and North.

Well I looked at Big Bear.  The cam is not working, but the chat is.  Sadly there are only two chicks now.
I looked at North too.  Mom is on nest head up.  It looks normal to me.

Went back to see Snow.  Now two raccoons and a porcupine are on the table top, but at opposite ends.  One deer is skirting the area at upper right.

Donna Bear and Otters - UPDATE March 14, 2025

Donna nursing her cubs
A surprise showing of That's Old News on WDIO TV yesterday is worthy of mention today. It was mainly about 3-year-old Blackheart and her first litter (Dot and Donna) that can be seen in the den. Today, 25-year-old Donna is often the earliest bear to be sighted in spring. Last year, she and her two yearlings showed up on March 21, which is only a week away. But I don't think she'll be so early this year with the newborn cubs she is scheduled to have. They aren't yet mobile enough to travel like the yearlings did last year. The picture of Donna lying relaxed with an arm up is from 2023 when she was nursing her family. I look forward to seeing her and her cubs whenever they show up this year. Donna's age of 25 is not unusual in this area that has been known for its peaceful bear/human coexistence since 1958 when the local community began diversionary feeding and keeping the local bears out of trouble. I brought a film crew to see 3-year-old Blackheart back in March 2000 in order to show what black bears are really like and encourage coexistence. Blackheart was a little nervous with the extra people, but all was well, and she probably saved some bear lives with what was learned by the many local viewers of that popular TV station. Donna the bear is one of the special bears today. She's produced 31 cubs. We'll see if she had another litter or two to go. The long-time record for giving birth by black bears was 26 until Shadow broke the record by having her last cub Spanky at 28. Donna is Shadow's granddaughter, so we'll see how close she can come to Shadow's record.

Otters were part of the excitement today as we wait for bears. We seldom see otters, but a few days ago one showed up on the near shore of the lake outside my window where it has a hole in the ice. Otters dig from under the ice to make such holes, holding their breath up to eight minutes; but it's still a bit of a mystery to me how they manage. Today with the temperature at 57 degrees F, not only did he (guessing he) spend a lot of time being visible from my window, but another otter showed herself (guessing her) for the first time resting next to a second hole where she (guessing she) caught and ate a fish. It turned out that they knew each other, maybe as mates? After awhile, she dove down her ice hole, came up his ice hole, and they sat snuggled side by side for a few minutes. We'll see what happens over the next days or weeks before the ice melts and they scatter.

Raccoon
Raccoon

Another surprise was that the hundreds of pine siskins suddenly totally disappeared with the arrival of a flock of over 40 crows. No siskin was seen for nearly two days. Then a few came trickling back eventually becoming about 50. But now their numbers have dropped to about 15 today. They normally don't head back north until late March or early April, which is why I think it was the many crows that made them leave. Before that, the siskins would scatter whenever a raven flew by. The nice memory of being swarmed by the siskins was just 3 days before the crows arrived in such big numbers.

After not seeing a raccoon all winter, one paid a visit a week ago and held still for a picture in low light.

Spring is coming!

Thank you for all you do as we wait for bears.

5:40 Boy the wind is roaring right now.  Loud thunder too.  Not getting cold yet though.  Debbie will be out with the dogs this afternoon at ARF.  I hope it is not too bad for her.  Really started storming right now. Sure hope it moves along quickly.  Debb has to be outside with her dogs, and I have to wait outside for people to finish eating, and move out of the hall.
Pancakes are highly desired around here this time of year. So we will wait in the rain if we have to.  I will take my umbrella.
I will go to Chatham for pancakes and sausage at 1pm.  They have it each weekend in March every year.  Then, at about 2 until 3 or so, I will go see Bonnie in memory care at Keystone Point.  I usually meet her daughter Annie there.  Today though Annie has to help her sister Liz care for Deanna, Liz's daughter.  Deanna had two stents put in her neck, and needs help at home.  She is young, but still had blocked arteries. She needs prayers.
Got a good look at the Big Bear bobbleheads just now.
