cal! Yay! You've got your sweets cane back! I am sooo happy for you. Good Good Good  :)

You wanting your surgery time to be later because you have an hour drive and you want to get your morning chores does makes sense to me. I'm the same way. Got routine things to do before leaving or going somewhere I get my routine things done too. It make you feel better. I hope you can because you'll feel better and more restful knowing your took care of all your animals and birds etc. I'm glad you're having general anesthesia.

Whoa! You're going to get a blizzard! Oh for heavens sake.

jo, Good news about Breanna. Prayers continue.

What is the link to the Snow camera you and cal talk about? Sounds interesting.

Wonderful news Cal.  It is really great when you think your way back to something lost and very important to you.  That is the best news I have heard in a long time. WOW!!!!
Paulie, I don't know links.  I just Google Snowman Cam,  or Big Bear Cam, or Decorah North Cam, or Great Spirit Bluff Falcon Cam, Brownsville Food Pantry for Deer Cam.  Then I add them to bookmarks. I look at all of them every morning, and several times through the day.  Try it.  You'll like it. LOL
Good Night and God Bless You all now.

Paulie,  I hope you get to enjoy the animal cams as much as I do.  They are wonderful.  On Snowman the bears come around almost every day in the Fall.  They have a routine that includes running off with the yellow bird feeder and knocking over the table.  If you turn it on and see things in serious disarray you can scroll back through time and watch the bears do the damage.  This often includes the table laying on top of a flattened snowman.  Sometimes by scrolling down, I have been able to find some archived videos of past visits by bears.
BTW it was really nice to see Tasha walking around at the Bear Center yesterday.
Cal,  I am still celebrating your finding Sweet's cane.
It's 50 and cloudy here.  Maybe some snow on the way, but not yet.  Got a good look at the baby Big Bear eagles again this morning.  They are early girds. LOL!!!
Bye now EV1 My mail is in. So says Denise the mailbox watchwoman.  So I will let you go for now.
I find that I don't really want to read the paper this morning.  It seems nothing ever changes, and I am getting tired of reading it over and over. I did see one thing I liked a lot.  Our two space travelers have finally and SAFELY got back to their families.
GBU and Ukraine.

PS I just read that the Decorah North eggs are pipping now in spite of the blizzard that swept in on Mom.  She is sitting snugly on her eggs and looking around expectantly.  Also, there are a few deer jousting over the numerous food troughs on Deer Pantry.

A Big Day - UPDATE March 20, 2025

Male Fisher
It’s not only the first day of spring, it’s World Frog Day! It’s a little early to celebrate frogs here with up to 30 inches of ice on some lakes, but the North American Bear Center came through with a picture from last summer of its Leopard Frog and Green Frog and the information below:

Hoppy World Frog Day!

Here at the NABC, we currently have 3 frog ambassador species- northern leopard frogs, green frogs, and gray treefrogs. Each of them help to educate our guests on the ecology of some of our local amphibians. Enjoy a ribbet-ing fun fact about each of them!

-Northern leopard frogs are the state amphibian of Minnesota!

-Green frogs are the second largest frog in Minnesota (bullfrogs are the largest).

-Gray treefrogs skin color changes with the color of its background, season, temperature, and humidity. Color may range from gray, green, and brown.

Here at the Wildlife Research Institute a couple days ago, one of the big flocks of Pine Siskins returned and covered the trees and feeders by the hundreds (March 18). Late that day, though, the eagle returned and made a few swoops into the siskins’ feeding area as the eagle grabbed a drumstick and headed off toward its nest about 1.14 mile away, presumably to feed his mate. If he flew 30 mph, it would take maybe five minutes flying time to go round-trip to the nest and back, and he was back in about ten minutes for another swoop. Not connecting on that swoop, he landed in the big red pine at the edge of the yard for the first picture opportunity I’ve had with him in some time. He was nice to sit where the sun would catch his eye and eventually fly off in a direction that would let the sun light his wings. Thank you eagle. I don’t know if the eagle was a reason, but the siskins were back to low numbers the next day. Among the low number, though, was a ‘Yellow’ variant that is more yellow overall with lighter stripes on its downside, and he was nice to pose in the foreground with two of the others in the near background showing their more darkly striped undersides.

A highlight today was a 5 AM visit by the male fisher before I could put food out for him. He scampered between all the usual places looking for food as I snapped pictures; but in the low light the shutter speed was so slow that they were blurry except for one. When he checked for food immediately outside my desk window, he paused a second under the light showing only his head, and it came out sharp. Thank you fisher.

Then came a new experience. As I immediately put some fat trimmings out for him, I glimpsed him disappearing down his tree. I wondered if he knew what I was doing and if he’d come back. Turning to go in, he was only eight feet away—closer than we’d ever been together. He’d come up the steps, probably truly knowing what I was doing. He immediately bolted down the steps as I turned toward him. Back inside I wondered if he’d come back after the scare. He did. In less than a minute he was up his tree and headed toward the food. He made several trips grabbing pieces of fat trimmings as I snapped pictures. All were blurry, but it was exciting that he seemed to know what I was doing and dared to come so close. He’s been coming for a couple years, so it’s not that surprising that he’d become somewhat accustomed. The one picture that come out will be a good memory picture.

Then it was time to start working.

Thank you for all you do,
Lynn Rogers, Biologist, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center

Ukraine:News
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that extending NATO’s Article 5 to Ukraine would be the simplest and most effective proposal, as it could reveal whether Putin is bluffing about further aggression.
“If Russia does not plan to invade its neighbors again, it is unclear why it should not accept security guarantees,” she said, as quoted by Askanews.
Speaking in the Chamber of Deputies ahead of the European Council meeting, Meloni emphasized that Italy would not blindly follow ineffective proposals from other countries. She stressed that security guarantees are the foundation of peace and that Italy should actively contribute its own proposals rather than merely adopting those of others.

Hi cal, After many years I'm very sure you've got your daily routine accurate and thorough. I know you enjoy it.

Soooo happy for you finding your sweets cane.

Interesting you mention Hayes, Kansas. One of my son's lived there for a few years before moving to NC. He taught Criminal Justice at Fort Hayes State University.

If you want an early surgery time I hope you get it. I'm sure Jim will feed and take good care of all your animals. He knows how important that is to you. Everything is going to go good for you at hospital and at home.

Hi jo, No problem about no links to the different cams. I wouldn't have much time to look at them honestly. Now going on 9pm I'm just logging onto my computer for first time today. Yep had another busy day today.

Good that you enjoy all the cams.

5:27  Good morning EV1
.  How nice to hear from some Mods.  Especially to hear that the bears have all been seen lately, and identified by those who know. LOL!
Thanks, Cal for relaying that news.  Made me feel good to hear from them again.  I miss the mods.
A couple black squirrels on Snow.  Falcon in nest box at GSB Cam. Humans cleaning up the bird feeding station at the Pantry, and putting out lots of deer food too. Mom awake at North, but still dark at Big Bear.
Now I will go get second coffee and read the rest of the paper.
Have a good Saturday EV1 GBU

PS Just looked in on the PTZ at Brownville's deer pantry.  Today is the last day for feeding the deer there.  Tomorrow at 9 AM the cams will go off until Dec. 16 2025.  There will be an end of season interview at 10 AM on March 23rd.  A link will be provided.
