Hi PA Paulie!  I love Rt 6 and The Alleghany River.
Hi Johoward! Took me a while to find the Jewel thread. I couldn't find Cheers at first in early Jan either. I had to ask someone for help finding it.

Anyway about Rt 6 and The Alleghany River. I remember a while ago you saying you like PA and mentioned NW PA. Beautiful scenic area for sure. Do you drive along there any more?

I hope all's good with you.

Hi cal  :) I did some quick reading to catch up since I haven't been here for a while.  Good your BP med was reduced.

Awesome you are considering a knee replacement!! The lady who said she was back to feeding her cows in a week and a half is encouraging for sure!

Johoward, You had a knee replacement, correct?

Yes Paulie.
I remember that a week or two after my knee replacement I went to rehab and walked up to the second story rehab room on the STAIRS.  This was the first time in 15 years I could do stairs.  It was remarkable.
I do not get to PA any more sadly.  I think of it often as very good memories from at least 20 years ago.
I think I will go again someday, but not sure when or why.  Many of my favorite trips were on my motorcycle.  I still have it, but we are not road worthy now.  Maybe I will just use my car and go for the fun of it.  This could happen any time, but spring is more likely.
Really warm here this morning.  32 degrees wow feels like a heat wave.  I will have to get out my shorts and Ts. LOL
Coffee and cereal waiting.  Not sure why I am up so early.
Bye for now EV1 GBU

Excitement and Change - UPDATE January 27, 2025

Boreal Owl
The biggest excitement is still swoops by the bald eagle and visits by the usual male fisher that ‘Eyes of the Night’ caught nicely holding its piece of beef fat on camera, but now there is another visit of high interest. It’s the boreal owl that we seldom have seen over the years but came again a couple nights ago. It landed where flying squirrels commonly feed, saw me at my desk ten feet away but concentrated looking more in the direction that flying squirrels might approach. With nothing in sight, the owl flew up onto a branch where it would be hard to see and it could make an easy dive. After some 15 minutes without success, it flew off.

 Goldfinch male

Not quite as exciting but kind of interesting is the big change in the flock of over a hundred siskins and goldfinches that were about half and half in the flock. In the last week or so, though, the flock has more than doubled in size to well over two hundred siskins and hardly more than six goldfinches. I don’t know where the goldfinches went.

Pine siskin

With the additional hundred siskins, there are two new birds. One is a female common redpoll that pretty much blended in but then got caught by the camera in plain sight with her red crown. The other is the rare yellow color phase of the pine siskin. Showing a picture of the usual color phase and the yellow one, we can see an overall more yellow look with yellow on its head, neck, breast, and under the base of the tail. It also has finer striping on its underside.

There is the usual competition for food through the day. At times, the siskins cover all the food patches, only to all leap into flight as a red squirrel runs through them or blue jays descend among them, or the big pileated woodpecker makes his entrance. Even blue jays are wary of the big pileated with its big bill that can peck into beef fat when it is frozen hard. In the picture, a brave blue jay ate sunflower seed hearts behind a pileated as long as the 10- ounce woodpecker kept pecking at the beef fat and ignored the 3-ounce blue jay.

Half-ounce chickadees don’t have the pecking power of the bigger birds but a determined chickadee showed me that it was successful in getting some of the high-calorie fat even in below zero temperatures.

Thank you for all you do,

hi paulie! was cheers moved and jewel i think amy did move some around good you found it well im not real happy with bp so far that first one that 25 mg losartan i dont see how that is helping not lowering it in fact as the day goes on it raises i take it at 6am then take 5 mg of the amlodipine i think that what it is. when i take that at 6pm i go on to bed wake up like at 11pm and my bp is good like 117/60 so i dont know. go back in two weeks he will read my readings. i just want it lower like 117/60 all the time. i was reading awhile back about the The Appalachian Trail, also called the A.T., is a hiking trail in the Eastern United States, extending almost 2,200 miles between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine, and passing through 14 states. wow long hiking takes along time and some very rugged only some can do the whole thing. have to leave certain time of the year.  have you heard of this? calis foot is just about healed i cant do anything till i get my bp fixed. it would be nice to finely get my knee done maybe not be able walk again but maybe i could with just a cane not the walker. i got to go pickup groceries

hi joho i was feeding cats litter boxes and watching local news earlier and they were talking about superbowl cost for chiefs 9 grand for just tickets and said that does not include fees is 9 grand just not enough and does not include airfare or hotel or eats to get all that it is 19,000.00 per person that is crazy crazy i tells  you. i think clark hunt and the chiefs should cover a big chunk of that for each person. NFL chip in  even if you drive it and stay outside of new orleans drive in for game still 9 grand for ticket then fees and eats parking goes on and on.

Cal , That looks too much like a train to me. LOL I did rush through it though at only 4:31.
Good to hear that Marge is ok after that terrible storm tore through Dublin Ireland where she lives.  I heard that one of those big turbines blew over. I will look at the Pub Cam  to see if there is any obvious damage.  No.  It looks normal now, but very few people there.  The Fox Heaven Cam looks normal too.
It is nice here.  32 degrees at 11:20.
I will get Odin from the bus and Nick from Wrestling practice this afternoon. I took Odin and his big wallet that would not fit into his little genes pockets to the bank last night while Brian got Nick from school.  The bank would not let me open a savings account with Odin, because I do not live at his address.  So we could not do it.  Brian will have to take him to the bank himself.  This is exactly what I was trying to avoid.  Brian has enough to do.  Duffey was very happy to see me and Brian and Odin all at the same time.  She is so sweet.
Have not heard from Debbie this morning.  She is on duty with Callum and Bash.
Well I talked to Erin about my new glasses.  She said I should come see her some time.  They are not very good for me .  My eyes are watering all the time and I can't read very well.  Distance seems OK though.  So I can drive all right.  walking and reading are the most troubling. Bye now again EV1 GBU, Ukraine, Israel, the hostages, and all who are suffering.

6:18  Nice and warm this morning.  Snowing a lot and cold coming in Maine where the food pantry for deer are.
Did not go see Erin yet.  Will try to get used to reading and computering with these first.
Need to go to Marc's this morning for the deals in this weeks sale paper.  A lot of the things I like are on sale there.  One example is Nickels Italian bread two for, I think, $2.98.  That is less than half price, and this bread fits the lunch meat I buy, and it sticks to the hook when I go cat fishing.  What's not to like????.  Also two Heinze catchup for $3, and Arm & Hammer soap for my clothes at $7.95 for a big bottle.
Now got to get dressed and hit the road. CUL EV1 GBU

Odin is home.  Brian is home.  Brian will get Nick. We are working on tomorrow.  Two boys to go to two venues to wrestle. Same time.  Different cities.   Getting tricky. Soon we will get Aunt Shannon involved. She is not home yet.
I am still trying to get used to the glasses.  It is hard to type, and hard to read.  I will go now and start to cook something.  Don't need much.  I had a big lunch.
Bye EV1 GBU and GN

Hi Johoward, Oh .. my .. gosh!!! You could do stairs a week or two after your knee replacement! I thought a person had to use a walker for two weeks then afterwards a cane for a while. Was doing the stairs very painful? I imagine it was. Were you still taking pain med?

My ortho doctor has been pushing me to get a knee replacement for a while. I've been saying no and I get gel injections into my knee.
You have me considering maybe yes to knee replacement.
My friend in Cheers just had her 2nd knee replacement. She had both knees replaced months apart. Her doing this has me thinking about it more too.

Route 6 in PA had some heavy snow squalls this morning. My husband and I have a cabin .. our family cabin .. in western PA (not near Route 6) and there were heavy snow squalls there too.

Very cool you rode your motorcycle through PA. That was a freeing feelings I'm sure amidst all that beauty.

Agreed it's nice temps are rising and out of the single and minus temps. That was brutal.

I suggest you not pull out shorts or Ts yet. Don't jinx the temps dropping again. Lol

Hi cal, Yes how to locate/go to Cheers was moved when Amy did her new year reorganization of the forum.

It sounds like your BP is doing better than it was before. Hope so and no more migraines for you. Good you have 117/60. Depending what we do like can raise our BP. When a person has pain that raises BP too. It's good you see Dr again in two weeks.

Yes I've heard of The Appalachian Trail. It's runs through an area in PA 30 minutes drive from my home. There's a parking area for people for hiking. It's goes across and through some farmland here too. One of my son's friends walked a very long way along the trail.

After I read what johoward said about his knee replacement I think you'd do really good with walking to the barn and everywhere if you had your knee replaced. That would be nice for you.  Maybe ask him some questions.
Oh and good about cali's foot.
