6 13   I know it is late but they started a bladder retention test at 7pm and are not done yet.  Got all greased up and stretched out flat and ball would not work.  Went away for new battery and never came  back. Clothes were all soaked and I had nothing to change into.  Finally the next shift drifted in for basket dumping and I asked firmly for some robes and pants to get up and go to bathroom. I asked the first one who came in to turn off my trouble light  for help.  Got a little.  Got  more when I started slamming doors and talking loud. This is all because I told the help that I was shocked awake in the morning by a person yelling at me to wake up.  I jerked so bad it hurt  my 17 staple incision and all my rehabbed muscles a lot.  Made me angry all day.
Now is payback for sharing with others what should never have happened, but it was Elder Abuse, and I called it what it was.  So I will pay.  Stay tuned the weekend is just starting.  It will get worse.  I am sure.

I see 11: 30 now.  I have been down by  8:30 all week.

God Bless You All and Ukraine

Holly, Woodchuck, Redpolls, and Black Bear Field Courses - UPDATE April 8, 2022
Today, "Taught" caught 5½ minutes of Holly doing something I never saw before—digging a deep body-sized hole in the snow and frolicking in it. She was having a blast. At the end, she just walked away to be normal again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS_56AaXICE

Woodchuck
Woodchuck
Out the window at the WRI, a woodchuck made its first appearance up on the second floor deck, which made me snap two quick ID pictures that look entirely different in the lights just 8 feet and seconds apart. The right ear and the spots of sparse fur look familiar, but I can’t remember whether it is a male or a female. I’ll have to look it up.

I was wrong again about the redpolls departing for the far north. A snowstorm yesterday brought them back in full force. The picture below shows a portion of them.

However, with the snow melting and bears about to show up, it is bears I think about most. The last two years have been unusual with serious droughts and this past year with bears also being forced out of big areas by forest fires in Minnesota and across the border in Canada. Bears were a problem all over but hardly so here in Eagles Nest Community with the diversionary feeding that has given this community a reputation for its LACK of bear problems now for over half a century. Now is a time of learning. We saw bears coughing up blood, probably from smoke inhalation that was bad for people here but nothing like it was for bears that were forced out of their home areas by the fires. We saw lean mothers that had lost cubs and some that had very small cubs that likely would not have made it without the diversionary food. We are wondering if we will see any of these bears this year to see how they fared. We took pictures last year, as usual, and catalogued the bears to identify them in case we saw them again.

Redpolls return
Redpolls return en masse

Even more, I’m looking forward to seeing 15-year-old Lily who should have cubs after missing a year after the drought of 2020. Her last litter was in 2019 when she had two male and two female cubs that we saw as two-year-olds last summer. When food is short mothers sometimes take an extra year to rebuild the body stores needed for successful pregnancies, although we seldom see failed pregnancies in this community with the diversionary feeding by many here. At 15, Lily is in the peak of reproduction when black bears have the largest litters. We wonder if she will have another litter of four. Another mother expected to have cubs this year is 23-year-old RC whose litter of 2020 was four like Lily had in 2019 when she was 12. Another mother we look forward to seeing is 19-year-old Colleen who had three cubs in 2020 and is due again. Others we expect to have cubs are 16-year-old Bow, 13-year-old Jewel, 11-year-old Oliana, 10-year-old Fern (who many saw born back in 2012), and five younger females. We also are looking forward to seeing 35-year-old Shadow who has not had cubs since she was 28, but she is a joy to see surviving year after year and is now the second oldest black bear (captive or wild) on record.Along with looking forward to who is having cubs, I look forward to the good times of being with Black Bear Field Course participants when they meet the bears and learn their Woodchuck
Woodchuck
personalities, vocalizations, body language, and more. I look forward to questions and answers around the dinner table as the bears raise questions in their minds. I always enjoy the pontoon ride to see wildlife on the way to the den where Lily gave birth to Hope in 2010. During the times of day when bears are fewest, participants choose the presentations they want to see about how to read a bear by knowing the meanings of their vocalizations and body language, how to read bear sign so participants can see if bears live in their home areas, and the presentations that generate the most questions on their biology and danger (or lack of it).

One reason I mentioned the Field Courses here at this time is that we’ve had some cancellations that can be filled. We have openings for a male in the course of July 4-7, a group of up to 5 people in the course of July 11-14, a female in the course of July 18-21, a female in the course of August 1-4, and a male in the course of August 22-25. For more information, e-mail Judy Thon at [email protected].

Thank you for all you do,

European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said the civilian deaths in the Ukrainian town of Bucha showed the “cruel face” of Russia’s army and pledged to try to speed Ukraine’s bid to become a member of the European Union.

During a visit to Bucha on Friday, where forensic investigators started to exhume bodies from a mass grave, Von der Leyen looked visibly moved by what she saw in the town northwest of Kyiv where Ukrainian officials say hundreds of civilians were killed by Russian forces.

Russia denies targeting civilians and has called the allegations that Russian forces executed civilians in Bucha while they occupied the town a “monstrous forgery”.

As EU officials were about to arrive in Kyiv, at least 50 people were killed and many more wounded in a missile strike at a railway station packed with civilians fleeing the threat of a major Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine.

At a news conference, Von der Leyen condemned what she called “the cynical behaviour” of those who wrote “for our children” on the weapons found near the scene.

Saying the EU could never match the sacrifice of Ukraine, Von der Leyen offered it a speedier start to its bid for bloc membership
Handing the president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, a questionnaire which will form a starting point for a decision on membership, she said: “It will not as usual be a matter of years to form this opinion but I think a matter of weeks.”

Zelenskiy told the same news conference he would come back with answers in a week.

“Russia will descend into economic, financial and technological decay, while Ukraine is marching towards the European future, this is what I see,” Von der Leyen said.

Earlier in Bucha, she told reporters: “The unthinkable has happened here. We have seen the cruel face of Putin’s army. We have seen the recklessness and the cold-heartedness with which they have been occupying the city.”

Von der Leyen’s trip to Kyiv was aimed at offering Zelenskiy moral and some financial support.

She pledged her support for Ukraine to “emerge from the war as a democratic country”, something, she said, the European Union and other donors would help with.

Josep Borrell, the EU’s chief diplomat, said he hoped the EU could allocate a further €500m (£420m) to Ukraine for arms purchases in a couple of days.

Zelenskiy has urged Brussels to do more to punish Russia, including banning purchases of Russian oil and gas, and has called on the EU to accept Ukraine as a full member.

8:02  Dreary here. Only 39 at 3pm.
My efforts yesterday and all night were successful. Today, all is well. This occasion is exactly why loved ones should be kept constant company in care facilities.  I was clear enough to enough groups to suffer only the one day and night.  It was a bad one.  Thank you God.  Today, all is better than ever.
Now about those Spring babies all over the place, and our bears playing in the snow instead of munching on straw with their eyes closed dreaming it is not straw, but something good.  Well I lost a big chunk of my script and don't know what I said, so I will say CUL before I lose the whole thing. GB and God Bless Ukraine.

hi you guys i heard this song on pearls radio she listens to the farm i thought song for you putin now world news ukraine uk boris johnson there sending tons of weapons god bless ukraine gb uk

haven't been to church
Since I don't remember when
Things were going great 'til they fell apart again
So I listened to the preacher as he told me what to do
He said you can't go hatin' others
Who have done wrong to you
Sometimes we get angry, but we must not condemn
Let the good Lord do his job, you just pray for them
I pray your brakes go out runnin' down a hill
I pray a flower pot falls from a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I'd like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray you're flyin' high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are, I pray for you
I'm really glad I found my way to church
'Cause I'm already feelin' better
And I thank God for the words
Yeah, I'm gonna take the high road
And do what the preacher told me to do
You keep messin' up, and I'll keep prayin' for you
I pray your tire blows out at 110

Cherry Blossoms ...   28:55        87°  (4:04)  partly sunny, windy ... looks like it wants to rain, off to the east.

Hi everyone.
Joho ... I hope that you are doing better and will soon be able to get out of there.  You are right, in those rehab type hospitals, you do need an advocate ... either yourself if you can do it, or a family member or friend.  When my husband was in those situations, I went and spent all day making sure that he was getting the attention that was due to him.  I got to know the people on that floor and they were a nice group, willing to hear a suggestion if I had one, and I got some good help with his eating that way.  They seemed to care.  But one is better off with someone paying attention to the situation.

Cal ,,, the thing that is making me smile a bit is when someone from the E.U. shows up to really see with their own eyes what is happening in Ukraine and are pushing to help those people to get membership in the E.U.  God Bless them too - Ursula and Boris.  Zelensky doesn't stop or give up. He pleads everyday, and it is good that someone is taking him seriously and trying to help.

I liked your poem. Cal.  I was taught that you cannot expect forgiveness if you will not forgive.  I have thought about that for hours.  How does one forgive this.  I don't see any way... There is no way ... ever.
