Signs of Spring - UPDATE April 4, 2022
Deer tense and alert
Deer -  tense and alert
Snow is melting slowly with temperatures reaching the low 40’s by day but refreezing overnight. The fast melt comes with temperatures reaching the 50’s by day and remaining above-freezing overnight. I suspect we’ll see that in a week or so.

A couple days ago "Pooch Pal" caught a nice 8 minute and 20 seconds video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjA_SVmX6EE of Chucky out doing what you’d expect when melting snow reveals vegetation, even though it is not the delectable young sprouts that will burst up in a month or so.Redpoll - 3/31/22
Redpoll - on 3/31/22

Today, there is a sharp difference at the WRI. The air is no longer aflutter with hundreds of wings. The redpolls are gone. Not a single one all day. Will they be back like when they fooled me into thinking they had gone north earlier? Or is this the real move like I think it is. Time will tell. The picture is a remembrance from a couple days ago.

But deer made up in biomass what the redpolls took away—15 deer, which is more than I’ve seen for awhile. I don’t know what brought the surge. After most of them left, I saw this deer Woodchuck Chucky
Woodchuck "Chucky"
looking very alert and tense with its white rump and tail hairs all bristled and occasionally stomping a foot as it followed a sound with its ears. I looked and looked in the slowly changing direction the deer was listening. Apparently it was nothing dangerous because I couldn’t see a wolf or coyote or bobcat and the deer eventually flicked its tail back and forth saying that everything is okay and calmly turned and walked away with its white hairs relaxed and normal.

Thank you for all you do,

Stone Arch ...   36:33           86°   (5:58 pm)   A good day here: sunny, gentle breeze wind-chimes.  It is difficult to fully enjoy my blessings when I think about what it is for other people, elsewhere.  GB Ukraine.

I am sorry, Joho, that you aren't feeling well.  I hope they can take care of you quickly.

My paternal grandmother's maiden name was McVeagh, family was originally from the Highlands, then Glasgow, and eventually out of Omagh in Norther Ireland.  I have some just plain Irish in me too.

R C Fishing ...  27:26              87°   (3:53 pm)  Sunny, breezy and cloudless; another lovely day.  We desert rats had better appreciate this before summer heat gets here.

I know what you mean and are feeling, Cal.  I feel upset that we can't get anyone to do anything.  I understand the arguments being made about this and that, but in the meantime, while we wait for this and that, people are being butchered.  History is repeating itself, he is another Hitler.

Another thing, I could not take children back to face what is going on there.

I saw one family went to Japan.  There was another family there, and I'm not sure if they were relatives or not.

Joho ... I hope that you are feeling better, and get home soon.

War criminals have no place in UN bodies aimed at protecting human rights. Grateful to all member states which supported the relevant UNGA resolution and chose the right side of history,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has voted to suspend Russia from the organisation’s leading human rights body amid allegations that its soldiers killed civilians while retreating from the region around Ukraine’s capital.

The United States-initiated resolution on Thursday achieved the two-thirds majority of UNGA voting members required to pass, with 93 votes cast in favour and 24 against. Fifty-eight countries abstained, but their votes did not count towards the final tally.

The brief resolution expressed “grave concern at the ongoing human rights and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, particularly at the reports of violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation, including gross and systematic violations and abuses of human rights”.

The vote makes Moscow the first permanent member of the UN Security Council to ever have its membership revoked from any United Nations body

you got that right and i read putin said anyone voted yes or abstain well we are going to get it putin we all got guns around here no trespassing

Speaking after the vote, Russia's deputy permanent member Gennady Kuzmin called the UNGA's decision "an illegitimate and politically motivated step with the aim of demonstratively punishing a sovereign member state of the U.N.," even going as far as calling it "open blackmail of sovereign states."

He also claimed the council is "monopolized by one group of states who use it for their short-term aims," and that "such actions violate the mandate entrusted by the international community on the Human Rights Council and overall undermine trust in this body."

After the vote was completed, Kuzmin said Russia made the decision to end its membership with the Human Rights Council on Thursday.

James Roscoe, a UK diplomat, then asked Russia to clarify, and said, "That sounds like someone who has just been fired, then tendering their resignation." Kuzmin responded, "I think we made a very clear statement."

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reacted to the vote as he took the stage for a NATO press conference in Brussels.

"A country that's perpetuating gross and systematic violations of human rights should not sit on a body whose job it is to protect those rights. Today a wrong was righted.
