Jewelies, I was expecting to watch Days of our lives while riding the exercise bike yesterday. I decided after not riding the bike for a year, it was time to get back on it! I just started peddling at 1pm when Days is supposed to come on. Instead of Days, Lester Holt comes on to tell us about the certifying of the election. I was hoping he would hurry up and get off so I could watch my program. Little did I know then that I would be glued to the tv until I finally went to bed at 11pm. My heart ached from what I was witnessing! Couldn't believe what was taking place. Turns out a former city councilman from here was there. He didn't go inside but he stood and looked in the window and took selfies of himself and posted to Facebook. However a newly sworn in state delegate from Wayne County, WV, was inside and posting video to Facebook of himself in Statuary Hall! He was having a great time. He is now claiming that he was working for the media! All this madness is happening while ykw is killing people.  >:(

no oil change yet.  vale will do it for 10 bucks on the 18th they said.
I am too disgusted with our situation to be civil.  I will just mostly avoid it for now, but not because I don't care.
We the people have accepted too much for too long.  Way past time to take corrective action to restore decency.

Cal, cool your state is getting ready to vaccinate 65 yr olds! My state is still working on getting 80+yr olds their shots. Teachers and staff are being vaccinated now, too, since kids are supposed to go back to school  full time Jan 19. I think my age 70 is sometime late Feb or early March. I noticed my Walmart had several items out of stock when I went there Wed. Had lots of toilet paper, though! I know Crow would like to come eat at your house. He's a meat lover and would enjoy all those meats you bought!

Daily Updates
A Brighter Day- UPDATE January 8, 2021
08 January 2021

Rime Ice overlook
Rime Ice at the overlook

Today, began with me feeling brighter and more energetic, and then the whole day got bright as the clouds parted and gave a beautiful white look to the rime-covered forest. In the process I learned something when the meteorologist for Channel 6-TV stated we should not call today?s beauty ?hoar frost.? Rime Ice on Red Pine
Rime Ice on Red Pine
He said rime ice and hoar frost form in very different ways. Rime ice forms when super-cooled water droplets within fog freeze onto surfaces such as tree branches, pine needles, etc. Hoar frost occurs on clear, calm nights when water vapor turns to ice without going through the liquid state. He said we have rime ice today.

Whatever it?s called, such a day makes people revel in the Christmas-like beauty. Different trees add different dimensions. The tightly branched crowns of red pines are a dense white.

Rime Ice on White Pine

The more widely spaced dark branches of white pines gave a starker look. The spacing is what makes them so attractive to bald eagles and ospreys that make 80% and 77% of their nests in these big trees despite the fact that these trees that are also so valuable as timber that they are down to their last 2% after a century of near total harvest. Both of these big raptors use the strong branches as perches and to search their surroundings. Bald eagle nests can grow to over a ton as they add to them each year.

Rime Ice on Aspen

Today, I felt good enough to go to the overlook to see the splendor. Forests that were green in summer, colorful in autumn, were at their brightest white today. I found it impossible to adequately capture the brightness and beauty, but the pictures give some idea.

It felt good to get out and see nature, but later I felt the need to rest. Getting better?in part to have strength for a second operation for more stents that should make me stronger mentally and physically for writing the book.

Also, a den cam is afoot for this winter with the team ready and willing. However, I haven?t heard back from the DNR yet?probably due to the covid affecting their work as it has affected so much else. I very much want to work in concert with the DNR. Over the years, the DNR has done so much to further my research, and I want to share credit with them. Also, with a permit for radio collars and den cams, I?m looking forward to having den cams each year. Several times over the years, various DNR employees have tried to end my research only to be overruled by higher officials who continued my work. That?s what I?m hoping for now. Unfortunately, the conflict of 2011-2014 was led by the DNR?s highest official, the former. I?m putting my faith in the current administration and am crossing my fingers for all that can be gained for the bears, science, education, and the State of Minnesota with cooperation.

Thank you for all you do.

Good morning everyone-  cold out but didn't  look at the thermometer.  Yesterday i waited until 9:30 to go out to a local Amish store. The parking lot was almost full and the store isn't that big so i just drove out of the lot and went to my local grocery for just the essentials.

hubby bought bird food yesterday- i was nearly out. I was surprised to see that my metal garbage can holds 2- 50 pound bags of cracked corn. The other can just holds one 50 pound bag of sunflower seeds. My wildlife  is happy.

We went on a bald eagle tour yesterday just before sunset. Yes you could see the sun but barely.  We saw probably  75 to 100 bald eagles at various places where the rivers were still open. Just magnificent. Picture may be forthcoming but all my photos are from far away. The close eagles i didn't photograph because when a car stops usually the birds will fly. I don't want to cause that. I haven't downloaded the pics to my computer yet.

So glad to see the update. Blue sky days are wonderful. TYTYTY  Get strong!

Have a great day jewelies!
