I went to a "Celebration of Life" yesterday for a dear friend and family member. Under her picture was printed this. I spent much of my time there thinking of Four and hope this is appropriate to share here.

You could shed tears that I am gone, or you can smile because I had lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that I will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that I have left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see me, or you can be full of the love we shared.

You can remember me and only that I'm gone, or you can cherish my memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what I'd love; open your eyes, love and go on.

I'm not gone...just gone ahead.

I am still hurting from the loss of Four.  Bob A's "problem child" Four was the only Decorah fledgling to my knowledge who slept at Bob's home and dined at his mews.  The saddest yet most comforting thing to me has been the picture of Bob rescuing and taking Four home this one last time.

Your words and poems have been a huge comfort, too.

Thank you from my heart, friends and companions at the nest.

An Old Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Happy St Patrick's Day all!

Those are great poems, I don't think I've been in this thread or forgot and hadn't in a long time.  Nice!  :)

Good morning. I thought I would try for my first post here. So here goes.

                                                                                  A Reason to Believe

Its beyond the pad and pen,
And bigger than what I'd say.
Really, I could only say, Amen,
To describe how I feel today.

So I'll speak, so let it be
Because you're dearest in my heart.
My hands have not come up empty,
Nor have I worn another scar.

With you came a new purpose.
                                                                               An after-life beyond its death
                                                                                No longer do I feel worthless;
I have a reason to breathe another breath.

Very nice poem, frehaws.  Like gg said, this is a nice place to stop in and find some peace for your soul.  :)

gardengirl, what a beautiful poem. I imagine it holds much love and longing to almost all children. It is very lovely.

To those few, like me, who grew up with a mother that was not so kind and loving, it gives us pause to hope and pray that we do become the mother the poem honors. I believe that I have done that and my heart is so full of the love I get back that I am very happy at my life and full of love for my family.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you out here that are mothers or have mothers or had wonderful mothers.

thank you gardengirl. I have heard this story before and forgotten it. I think it is imperitive that I etch it into my memory for reference in the world we live in now.

I love Helen Steiner Rice cards so I thought I would share this poem with all of you tonight. If it has been share here before, I apologize.

                       A PRICELESS GIFT

Friendship is a priceless gift
than cannot be bought or sold,
but its value is far greater
than a mountain made of gold.

For gold is cold and lifeless
it can neither see nor hear
and in the time of trouble
it is powerless to cheer.

It has no ears to listen
nor heart to understand
it cannot bring you comfort
or reach out a helping hand.

So when you ask God for a gift
be thankful if he sends
not diamonds, pearls, or riches
but the love of real true friends.

gg - Loved the donkey story of never giving up.  For some reason I'm thinking of that quote, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade" or "Where there's a will, there is a way".

frehaws - what a nice poem and how true!  Thank you both for sharing these.
